Gathering in the Garden with May Rain

with Gathering in the Garden:

I had a little Gathering in the Garden inspiration and fun with Shelley Snow’s scarecrow, “May Rain”, dressed in her rain gear, complete with slicker and umbrella. . .

May Rain was something I could identify with since I traded my flip flops for rain boots with our record rainfall this summer!

 I gathered some clothes and a trellis to grow

a gardening version of May Rain.

 

 

 Her trowel is always handy. . .

 

And her rain boots are flowering with

hydrangeas and buzzing with a bee stake.

The Indoor-Outdoor Picnic section was full of inspiration!

 I brought the indoors, outdoors~

complete with a faux bois rug from inside my Potting Shed.

May Rain is picnicking with

her trusty side kick, Will Rain~

Constructed from a shepherd’s hook and

a cable-tied piece of rebar for arms,

 Will is oufitted in my husband’s fishing waders~

Prepared for record rainfall

and rising waters!

A old garden rake makes a

makeshift rack for wine glasses and

 a gathering in the garden picnic~

And a bottle of rosé makes a food-friendly

summer and fall picnic wine,

chilling in a favorite urn~

A recipe for Foggy San Francisco Roll-Ups

was included for this May Rain picnic.

I’m calling them Rainy Day Roll-Ups!

Quick & easy~ good for rain, sun, or fog, everyone has their own version of these tortilla pinwheels.

Rainy Day Roll-Ups

2 cups fresh spinach, washed, drained and chopped fine

3 whole artichoke hearts, drained and chopped fine

2 green onions, chopped (I used some chives instead)

1/3 cup mayonnaise

1 small package (3 oz.) cream cheese softened

1 – 2 teaspoons to taste of ranch-style dressing mix

2 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (I used several chopped  sundried tomatoes instead)

3 or 4 (6 inch) flour tortillas (I used spinach)

Mix all ingredients together and spread evenly on tortillas. Roll up them up jelly roll fashion. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 2 to 4 hours. When ready to serve, cut the roll-ups into 1/2 inch slices.
