The Vintage Tea Party Year takes you on twelve months of parties, celebrations and teatime treats as well as introducing more games and craft projects for your chosen theme. See the New Year in with vintage style, make Valentine’s Day extra special, give every child their dream tea party, find inspiration for weddings and baby showers, be the talk of the town with your own summer street party and wrap up for winter with a vintage-inspired Christmas. Angel’s inimitable style will take you on a seasonal journey and help you put on the perfect tea party whatever the occasion.

I couldn’t begin to do this book justice with 300 pages and a year’s worth of inspiration! I fancied a picnic from the adorable summer picnic section, but I didn’t fancy our oppressive heat.

I did venture out to for a little boating food fun with Potato “Ships” from the Children’s Tea Party section.

Roast your potatoes, scoop out the potato flesh and set sail with the fillings of your choice.

Hoist a sail with a piece of ham cut into a triangle. A bamboo knot pick makes a mast to skewer your ham or your sail of choice, topped with a grape tomato.

“Rose” Beef Bites with Horseradish Cream

DSC_1650-001

“Rose” Beef Bites are a pretty way to serve a roast beef canapé for a party!

DSC_1668-001

This is my favorite kind of appetizer since you can mix your horseradish cream and assemble the beef in advance, rolling into a small rosette.

DSC_1636-002

To make horseradish cream, mix 1/2 cup sour cream or creme fraiche with 1 tablespoon grated horseradish and salt and pepper. When it’s party time, toast your baguette slices, assemble and serve with a peppery arugula leaf.

And last but not least, a little British fun a Victoria Sponge Union Jack Cake!

DSC_1671-002

Decorate any sheet cake with berries to design a British Union Jack flag or American Stars & Stripes.

A couple of years ago I was receiving Tea Time magazine, it reviewed different teas and had recipes for tea time and luncheon foods,a magazine I really enjoyed.

I want to come to a tea party at your house, Mary!! The potato boats and the beef rosettes are just so cute, and I think my grands would have fun making them. Thank you for sharing this delightful series of tea party books.

A delightful post start to finish! Your photos are just perfection! I had received one of these books as a gift and didn’t even know there were two others – they’re now on my must-get list!

  8. June 19, 2015 at 9:52 am

Mary, As soon as I saw those potato boats I thought of you! They look delicious and with your ham sails and grape tomato crow’s nest they will be snapped up at any lakeside party! I’ll have a few rose beef bites for protein and then top off my meal with a huge slice of your pretty cake. I’m sorry you are still sweltering there! I noticed some cool mo-tea-tos in one of the books–maybe you can relax with a pitcher! Linda

first i am so loving your bold and beautiful banner! … but back to the world of TEA PARTIES! i KNEW the potato girl in you would be setting sail, and with your backdrop its a stunner as usual! and those beef bites were so delish! after the girls left i offered my husband the left overs, he laid down in bed with a smattering of everything and ate like a heathen wolf, he looked up with his jowls still quivering and said those little sandwiches are really good, got any more? it cracked me up, like he was being exposed to a foreign little land of tastes and delights :-) your pics are gorgeous, i was so busy making mine for guests any minute that i slapped on thistles, no roses for me!

you and mlee made the most gorgeous cake!

such a delightful week with you ladies, our books were filled with so much inspiration, thanks so much for playing on the hottest week of your history, may i personally suggest the frozen mango mint with champagne, extra refreshing!

Oh goodness, those potato ships are calling my name! I have been looking for some inspiration for a little family father’s day gathering we’re having on Sunday, and my guys would just love a fleet of these! The beef rosettes are really incredible too, who knew roast beef could be so pretty :) Thank you for another enlightening and enchanting week with the Novel Bakers Mary, you all always find the most unusual and intriguing books to share~ your creations outshine the author’s!

  15. June 19, 2015 at 5:18 pm

I wish one (or three) of those potato ships could sail north… and quickly! Sounds like a fun book:@)

Mary, I wish you didn’t live so far away, or I would be right over for tea. From beginning to end, each photo pulled me in, making me feel as if I were right there. The rose beef bites are elegant and appetizing–I think Audrey Hepburn would have served them for Lunch at Tiffany’s! Your potato boats have personality! I can just imagine them launching (I hope they sail to my house). Your cake would be welcome at Buckingham Palace. Your photos and styling are genius and could grace the pages of a book. I always feel inspired and happy when I visit you. It has been a joy to play with you this week!!

Bravo! I’m sorry you are dealing with dreaded heat. Fortunately our summer so far has been mild and very wet. Another inch of rain this morning. Amazing! Lake Travis, looking like the Colorado River bed that were it’s beginnings, is not almost full. It has been below 30% for the recent years, and I honestly didn’t think I’d ever see it full again. It is wonderful!
Your tea parties this week have captured my heart. I’ve ordered the books for myself, more to read for the sheer pleasure of the illustrations, as we all know I’m not one to linger in the kitchen. Ha! But who knows? I just might get inspired by these books. I do love tea parties! Vintage Sweets arrived today, and I can hardly wait to spend some quality time with it. Oh, and I rushed out to World Market to get my own Queen Elizabeth cutter. ;-)
Thanks for sharing all the party delights this week. It has truly been one of my favorite Novel Baker’s Series.

I want so bad to come to your house! What an awesome post!

  20. June 20, 2015 at 2:01 pm

Tea parties are always the best and you can create the best!…Love those “boats” but really love those great beef roses!…I vote for a tea party indoors to escape this awful summer heat we have been experiencing and it is only June!

Hi Mary, Fun post!! Did you secure the rosette with a wooden pic or does the creme secure it well enough? I was wondering if using chicken or ham what type of topping would be good, any ideas?

    • June 28, 2015 at 7:07 pm

Hi Kathy, No I just rolled it into a rosette shape. You could experiment with any meat, if it’s sliced thin enough it should stay in place :)

  22. June 28, 2015 at 9:07 pm

Such a fund book! I’m afraid my moratorium on bringing a new book into this house is going to be broken…
