Valentine’s Day provides the perfect excuse to treat yourself to flowers and be your own Valentine! I couldn’t resist having a little flower and dish fun in celebration, with some vintage-inspired Valentine greetings in the Potting Shed.
The grocery stores were blooming with bouquets of flowers last week in anticipation of Valentine’s Day.
A bouquet of Baroness Roses stopped me in my tracks when I spied them.
They join white hydrangeas, pink ruffled carnations and pink and white alstroemeria in vases.
My husband’s grandmother’s pitcher and coffee pot are blooming with hand-painted roses and provide vases for flowers.
Marked ‘Germany’ on the bottom, they both have chips and small break that was carefully repaired on the spout of the coffee pot, signs of being well-loved and the perfect sentiment for Valentine’s Day.
Transferware in shades from pale pink to deep rose provide some additional blooms and a soft and romantic color palette and vignette for Valentine’s Day.
I had a little dish serendipity a couple of weeks ago, finding a set of 6 pink Chelsea Toile plates for $3 each at an antique mall.
They’re joining another grandmother’s pink Crown Ducal Bristol plates. You can see them at a Romantic Table for Two with an edible centerpiece and wine chiller with rose petal ice cubes, here.
Valentine greetings provide wrappers and sweet sentiments for chocolate for Valentine’s Day, serve in a teacup with dried rose petals and a rose-leaf stem spoon.
And a pair of Franciscan Pink Vista plates were a consignment store find several years ago.
Flowers are blooming on a pair of Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz plates. . .
And vintage-inspired Valentine greetings are displayed on flower frogs . . .
Gloves hold a napkin and a bouquet of assorted vintage flatware for a table in the Potting Shed. You can see how the garden gloves grow, here.
I’m always on the look out to add a blooming fork or spoon to my collection, especially when I can pick one up for a dollar or two at an antique mall.

Lovely Valentines Day posting. Have followed you for years! I do have a very small thing to mention. Pink Vista was made by Masons, not Franciscan! With all the different chinas that go through your loving hands, it’s amazing that there are no more tiny oopses than this! Keep up the beautiful work!

Ok, then, but very strange to me as I’ve been collecting Mason’s Pink Vista for decades. I know they stopped making it about a decade or so ago. Actually purchased mine in England at the Mason’s shop and every one of mine is stamped Mason’s. I even looked on Replacements to see if I could find some made by Franciscan, but when I input Pink Vista, all that comes up is Masons. Maybe Franciscan started making them after Mason stopped? I think we’ve entered the Twilight Zone! ;-) Lovely posts in any case. Always beautiful!

So soft and pretty – well done Mary! Thank you for the great recipes. The Buffalo Chicken Pasta Salad went to our church potluck yesterday and was SO good and today slices of the No-Bake Strawberry Chocolate Ganache Tart With Chocolate Cookie Crust went to friends and family. What a hit! – Out of the park!! I felt like a gourmet chef! haha. I was so pleased with both. You are my “go to girl” for delicious recipes and they are always winners!!
