Although we’re lakeside, I set a table to celebrate
A Coastal Christmas
for my Blue Crab Bay Stoneware Giveaway!
For a table covering, a quilted coverlet with nautical stripes provides the quintessential red to celebrate a Coastal Christmas and to pair with the blue stoneware.
My 4 Place Settings of Blue Crab Bay Company Stoneware were hoisted ashore previously for my Feeling Crabby table in September.
For a seaside Christmas transition, I added some greenery and ribbon for a pop of red, along with shells to my lanterns.
Clear bubble stems, silver crab napkin rings, and flatware resembling rope add a few coastal details, as well as gray-washed rattan chargers, their faded appearance much like a sun-weathered dock.
Chargers are wreathed in Leyland Cypress for a seasonal touch~ an evergreen which won’t leave a sticky or sappy residue in its wake. Galvanized buckets are filled with a mixture of cypress, pine, and cedar.
I was first introduced to Blue Crab Bay products when I had my retail store and carried some of their specialty foods~their Snug Harbor Bloody Mary mixer is one of our favorites!
I was introduced through the pages of Claire Murray’s Women and the Sea, to Blue Crab Bay’s founder Pamela Barefoot, who resides on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, and saw my review, which in turn led to me a little to doing some photography this year for Blue Crab Bay Company products.
Part of my compensation for my photography was 8 Place Settings of handsome stoneware by Dovis Designs, produced and hand-painted in Thailand exclusively for Blue Crab Bay Company.
It is microwave and dishwasher-safe, as well as oven-safe to 400 degrees.
Nationally known folk artist, José Dovis, was born in a small village by the Italian Alps, and designed this hand-painted stoneware. Trained in pottery and painting, Dovis broadened his study of the arts in Argentina, Mexico, and Washington, D.C. after leaving Italy. In 1978, he established a studio in his waterfront home on Virginia’s Eastern Shore and traveled extensively, selling his original wheel thrown pottery along the East Coast. His designs synthesized the tradition of classic Italian majolica with early New England stoneware, reflecting the coastal life of the Chesapeake Bay.
Dovis, a longtime friend of Blue Crab Bay Co. founder Pamela Barefoot, designed the original Blue Crab Bay brand logo in 1985. Twenty-six years later, the reunion of Barefoot with Dovis rekindled the spirit of the stoneware line, with both of their creations drawing their inspiration from the Chesapeake Bay region~ the heart of Blue Crab country and three award-winning area vineyards~ incorporating grapes in the border on the plates.
In the Spirit of Christmas and as I approach my three-year blogging anniversary in January, I’m sharing some dish love and giving away my remaining 4 Place Settings I’m due to receive from Blue Cray Bay Company to One Winner!
The 7-Piece Place Setting includes a dinner, salad, bread/dessert plate, and a cereal, chowder, pasta bowl and mug!

Leyland Cypress, huh? OK…I’m going to have to write that down. I had a nasty little run-in with some evergreens a couple of years ago, and I have been antsy about using fresh ever since. I like the way you paired the striped tablecloth with the checkered napkins. Very pretty, and a perfect nautical look! The dishes are great, too. I wouldn’t be “crabby” if I didn’t win them, but it sure would be nice! :-) The treatment on the lantern is really pretty and unique. The plaid works with everything else! One might not expect that it would, but it totally does!

I can sea all the way back to my honeymoon soon to be 20 years ago, spent at a house on the rivah of the eastern shore. We baited our crab pot with leftover finger sandwiches from the wedding reception and spent a glorious stormy night watching the water from a glassed in deck. You have the most marvelous pictures and blue is my favorite colour; I sea what I could sea and do with this interesting blue crab design pottery. Your table setting is very attractive. I’d love to “sea”these dishes on my table. While my husband is out crabbing at the Delaware Bay, I could be setting the table in anticipation of the bussel of crabs he’ll bring home. And on the days he comes home without a bounty, I’ll still be pleased because these beautiful dishes won’t get dirty! Love your table; so festive!

I would so love to “sea” these dishes come home with me! One of the first things my beautiful husband did to “wow” me when we were first dating was teach me how to pick a crab. I’ve loved him every since (not to mention steamed, spiced crabs!) These dishes could be such a meaningful and beautiful thing to share with him now that the kids are all adults and we are once again able to enjoy time alone together!

This is my first post…just in time to say I hope to ‘sea’ your lovely dinnerware come home to live with us! Our SC home overlooks a peaceful pond and faces gorgeous sunsets that we enjoy watching from our sunroom and porch under big old lake oaks. The dinnerware would look perfect with our blue and white toile sofa that sits in the sunroom, on our French wood table mixed with our greenware, or out on the porch on our black wrought iron table topped with red placemats. A perfect way to celebrate our 20th anniversary in a home that we built and moved into twenty years ago this week!

Reminds me of when I joyfully decorated our tree with vintage lures, amber pinecone lights etc. When my, then grade-school age, son walked in and saw it he screamed out, “Fish tree?!” That was the end of my dream to do a theme tree anymore.

I love love love your blog. I check in on you daily. I live on the water in Michigan. On Lake St. Clair and we also have a small lake on our property in Northern Michigan. I never can be too far from the water. Your fish tree was cute and have sparked a new theme for my tree at our cabin Up North.
I live six hours away from the sea so I spend a lot of winter days very anxious for the family’s yearly trek to the beach for a week. I’m pretty sure I’ll sea these dishes in my daydreams!! It’s most gracious of you sharing this gift, but of course it is the SEAson of giving!!

Love your giveaway tableware. I used to live in Maryland where we ate blue crabs every summer, but now I live in land-locked Ohio. The dishes bring back many fond memories of a favorite treat. I follow via email.
Oh, how these dishes made me reminisce. We lived on the Chesapeake Bay for several months and my mother-in-law (who lived in Maine) talked about the blue crabs. This brought back so many fond memories of that time. Would love to “sea” them at my table!

I have lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (same peninsula as the Eastern Shore of Virginia for those not familiar with the area, between Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean) all my life. I moved this summer to a home on the shore of the Choptank River and am now able to catch blue crabs off of my dock. These blue crab dishes would be right at home here!
