Create a cozy Valentine table with supermarket flowers styled into a romantic, long-lasting centerpiece—plus a blooming wine bottle bouquet that turns a favorite bottle of bubbles into an easy Valentine or Galentine gift.

Happy February!
Welcome to Monday Morning Blooms, our monthly flower series where we share seasonal arrangements, simple techniques, and the joy of fresh flowers. On the first Monday of each month, my Monday Morning Blooms friends and I gather around a common theme. For our February edition, it’s all about Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s flowers don’t have to be elaborate or expensive to feel special. For this cozy Valentine table centerpiece, I turned to one of my favorite sources for everyday blooms: the supermarket floral department. With a mix of white, red, and purple flowers, this arrangement feels romantic, cheerful, and just right for February, whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day, or simply adding a little love to the table.

How to Style a Cozy Valentine Table with Supermarket Flowers
This Valentine table started with the flowers. A low, generous centerpiece creates an inviting focal point without overwhelming the place settings, making it perfect for casual dinners or lingering conversations.

Choosing Supermarket Flowers for a Valentine’s Day Table
Flowers & Supplies
You can find a great selection of affordable flowers at Trader Joe’s. The closest TJ’s near me is an hour away *sniff*. My supermarket blooms came from Publix and Harris Teeter in $4 and $5 dollar bundles. I bought one mixed bundle that had a single rose.
🌸 Flowers (all from the supermarket):
-
Large white hydrangeas for a lush base
-
Medium blooms: mums and carnations
-
Filler flowers: alstroemeria, available in lots of colors and chosen for their long vase life, abundant greenery, and multiple blooms per stem
-
White stock for height, fragrance, and spiky texture
🌸 Container:
-
A fluted bowl from Pier 1 (a longtime favorite pulled from the cabinet)
🌸 Mechanics & Tools:
-
A flower frog or chicken wire for stem support
-
Flower shears for clean stem cuts { 4.7 out of 5 stars with 1,526 global ratings }
-
Flower food / preservative to nourish flowers, balance water pH, and reduce bacteria
🌸 Optional but Helpful:
-
A Lazy Susan turntable for easy viewing while arranging

🌸 Optional but Highly Recommended:
-
Crowning Glory Spray, an antitranspirant that seals in moisture and dries clear
-
Safe for all flower types
-
Especially helpful for hydrangeas, that are prone to wilting
-
I’ve had arrangements last up to two weeks using it
-

Why Flower Frogs Are Ideal for Valentine Table Centerpieces

To support the flowers, I used a combination pin and cage flower frog found at a favorite antique mall for $15. Vintage flower frogs are wonderfully heavy and stable, making them perfect for low bowl arrangements.
-
Mine measures 5 inches in diameter, fitting neatly in the bottom of my bowl
-
Flower frogs (or chicken wire) help keep stems in place, as an eco-friendly alternative to floral foam
-
Older, heavy-duty frogs can be found on Etsy or eBay
Using a flower frog gives supermarket flowers a more professional, florist-style finish—especially for table centerpieces viewed from all sides.

How to Create a Long-Lasting Valentine Table Centerpiece
Before arranging, I always prep my flowers for success:
-
Trim several inches off each stem at a 45-degree angle for better water uptake.
-
Remove any damaged leaves or foliage that would sit below the water line.
-
Place flowers in a bucket of room-temperature water mixed with flower food.
-
Let them hydrate in a cool spot for several hours or overnight before arranging.

Arrange the Flowers
-
Place your flower frog or chicken wire in the container and fill with room-temperature water mixed with floral preservative.
-
Begin with the hydrangeas, forming the base and concealing the rim of the bowl.
-
Add alstroemeria next for color and greenery.
-
Tuck in mums and carnations for fullness.
-
Finish with white stock for height, fragrance, and texture.
After arranging, check the water level daily. Hydrangeas are heavy drinkers, and flowers tend to drink more in winter when indoor air is dry.

Easy Valentine Table Care Tips for Winter Flowers
-
Remove wilting or fading flowers promptly; they release ethylene gas that shortens the life of neighboring blooms.
-
Stock typically has the shortest vase life of all the flowers I used. When it starts to fade, simply pluck those stems out of the top of the arrangement, and enjoy the rest without, or replace them with fresh blooms if desired.
-
Keep water clean and topped off, especially during the first 24 hours.
A Blooming Bottle Bouquet for a Valentine Table or Gift
In addition to the centerpiece, I created a blooming bottle bouquet—a fun way to dress up a bottle of champagne or wine for gifting or celebrating!
I didn’t photograph step-by-step images, but you can see the same method used here:
👉 Cheery Sunflowers on the Porch: DIY Blooming Wine Bottle Bouquet

Supplies & Tips
-
Oasis Bottles Up! Floral Foam Ring Holder
-
Small: 3″ diameter x 2″ tall, 1 5/8″ opening
-
Large: 5″ diameter x 2″ tall, 3 1/4″ opening (used here for champagne)
-
-
The foam ring is wax-coated on the bottom to prevent leaks
How to Make It
-
Soak the floral foam using the float-soak method: place wax side up and allow it to absorb water naturally until fully saturated (about a minute).
-
Never force foam under water—this creates air pockets that shorten flower life.
-
I always arrange flowers on an empty wine bottle, keeping the gift bottle drip-free and label pristine.
-
Use a combination of spray roses (cut apart) and alstroemeria blooms, starting along the top edge.
-
If you plan to remove the ring from the bottle for tabletop use, insert stems straight along the bottom rather than angled so the bottle ring can rest on the table.

6. Spray finished bouquet with Crowning Glory, placing a towel underneath to catch drips, and allow to dry (about 30 minutes).

A blooming bottle bouquet makes a lovely gift for Valentine’s Day, Galentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or any celebration and earns instant hostess points! 💐🍾

Valentine Table Details: Cozy Layers, Candles, and Winter Texture
Our Valentine table is set beside our Winter Nesting Tree, a favorite way to extend the twinkle season beyond Christmas.

Decorated with bird ornaments, glittery nests, pinecones, snowflakes, icy branches, and snowy white ribbon, it adds warmth and light to January and February.

{ Brrrrrrr! ❄️ }

Katie Alice Scarlet Posey provided the red, white and purple color palette for the flowers and table centerpiece. The dinnerware is inspired by a snippet of 1950s textile, adorned with a colorful floral design and bordered by a charming polka dot pattern in red and white. It’s layered on red heart-shaped plates and red beaded placemats for Valentine sparkle

Godinger “Olde Bouquet” flatware adds vintage charm and additional flowers to the table.
Vintage flutes from my mother-in-law bring some sentimental sparkle to the table, while red mercury glass votives add a little candlelight for Valentine’s Day.

Last but least, (because it’s not Valentine’s Day without chocolate!) red heart bowls hold Ghirardelli Lava Cake Duet Hearts, for sweet serendipity and additional red and purple to coordinate with the table.

A Simple Valentine Reminder

A cozy Valentine table doesn’t require elaborate plans—just thoughtful details, a few supermarket flowers, and time spent arranging something beautiful. I hope this centerpiece and table inspire you to bring a little love, warmth, and color to your winter days. 🌹❤️

Good morning Mary. It is a cold 19 degrees this morning, but no wind! Your table exudes warmth and coziness with the fur throw and the nesting tree in the background! Your pink, red, and purple flower choices make a lovely Valentine’s Day arrangement. Thank you for sharing the process of the design and the tips for longer lasting flowers. The Katie Alice Scarlett Posey dinnerware is perfect with the floral arrangement. How fun is the blooming bottle bouquet, I love this idea! I agree it would not be Valentine’s Day without chocolate. I have been enjoying the Ghirardelli Duet Hearts! They are delicious. It is always a treat to join you for Monday Morning Blooms and flower therapy. Stay safe and warm and Happy February❤️
Mary, what a beautiful Valentines table. I was so happy to see grocery store flowers that are readily available. But I also appreciate your detailed instructions for creating a centerpiece and blooming bottle bouquet. Your mother in law’s crystal is so pretty and it’s nice to use things that are passed down and are special to us.
Looks like a magical winter morning at your lake. It’s a windy and cold 31 degrees in southwest Florida!
What adorable bouquet arrangements you’ve made, Mary, in the fluted container and as a ring around the bottle! You are so clever, and yes, what hostess wouldn’t be thrilled at receiving an adorned fresh floral bottle of wine?! The Katie Alice Scarlet Posey pattern is so pretty and perfect for ❤️ Day. Hope you’re staying warm by your twinkling tree. 😘
Beautiful table Mary and as usual your bouquet tips are always helpful. Love the Katie Alice Scarlet Posey pattern name and would use them just for the name alone. We don’t have snow here in SW Florida although snow flurries were predicted and it is plenty cold with no hopes of a heat wave anytime soon. I love the sentimental crystal…actually ANY dishes handed down or over are special as they make any occasion more memorable don’t they? Happy Valentine’s Day and Stay warm and cozy.
What a beautiful Valentine table by your twinkling tree Mary. Both bouquets are gorgeous. The tutorials are so helpful along with the tips of how to use an empty bottle for the bottle arrangement and to use a lazy susan as well. Your plate stack is lovely and made with a favorite pattern I always enjoy seeing! Your snow scene is serene and the snow is the fluffy kind that will hopefully disappear soon. That’s my kind of snow! I’m a Southern girl who wants it gone in 24 to 48 hours. We’ve been inside 10 days now because the ice on the neighborhood streets hasn’t been touched and is a solid sheet. We’re hoping by tomorrow that progress on it melting will occur as the temperature will stay above freezing long enough today and tomorrow to melt some of the ice. We’re supposed to be above freezing for the first night tonight since this all began. The nights, along with the days, have been so frigid that very little melting has occurred so far. This Southern girl is ready for Spring! Thank you for the beauty you shared with us today. Clara ❤️
Mary, your table is so pretty with the Katie Alice Scarlet Posey dinnerware. Love the red. The grocery store flowers are gorgeous. I always appreciate your tips about displaying flowers. 🌺 the bottle bouquets are so charming. I think they make a fabulous display. That’s a lot of snow, makes me cold just looking at your photos. We are having spring like weather here with daffodils blooming. Stay warm and cozy.
I think…I COULD DO THAT!!! Would make nice neighbor gifts…& that ” Petit Chocolat Wine” (Aldie) is delish!!! ❤️

Stunning, thank you!❤️
Happy Monday Morning Blooms Mary! It’s always a delight to join together for this first Monday of the month, especially in February when we can all use a large dose of floral cheer. Your flowers certainly bring the love today!
I love your cheerful red setting, but it’s the bottle floral crown that really enamors me. I’m going to make one the next time I bring a special bottle of wine somewhere- it’s beautiful! Stay warm , dear friend, spring is coming. ( hoping soon, for you! Brrrr… it’s cold there!)
Wishing you a blessed February,
Lidy
Good afternoon, Mary! Believe it or not, I am reading your post today from the Tundra of Pennsylvania. Yes, we are here to visit family and to restock our antique booth. It’s a heat wave of 18°, after it was very cold at -7° just a day ago. We have a foot of snow! Just like you! Brrrrrrr!
But your pretty table, with gorgeous flowers and bright red and white plates, is just what I needed. Everything is darling!
I am also glad you shared the tutorials. I especially enjoyed the ring of flowers on the bottle. Your inspiration is greatly appreciated!
❤️🤍🩷🤍💜🤍❤️
Happy Valentine’s! Keep warm!
Beautiful flowers and tablescape to coordinate with that winter blanket you have! Great tips, too. My sister always scarfs up any and all flower frogs at estate sales, always good sellers. I love what a big impact one hydrangea makes, and that wine ri g is beautiful. Cute dishes. I always love to see prior table settings with what you have and how you mix and match.
This is so beautiful, I love the addition of the purple! I can’t wait to try a bottle bouquet too, thank you!
Thank you for the tips Mary! I’m going to search for flower frog similar to yours. Your setting is beautiful and I’m so envious of your Winter Nesting Tree! Stay warm ❄️❤️
Always a treat to see what you create. I love the new bottle shaped foam. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Stunning!
I’m so intrigued with the blooming bottle. That is gorgeous and so different! I’ve never seen anything like it. Thanks for sharing this idea!
I love your floral arrangements Mary! I just ordered some Crowning Glory through your link.💐
Mary, I’m happy to see all these beautiful blooms. Not sure if it’s the weather that has caused delivery issues or what, but my local groceries have been almost void of flowers the past week. Finally yesterday, I was able to find fresh tulips! Also brought home some beautiful potted pansy plants and a gorgeous geranium hanging basket. My garden needs some pick-me-ups! The recent freeze left a huge mess, and I’m slowing tossing things lost in a few containers. I’ll need to wait for the major cleanup in the beds till I feel the chance of more freezing weather is gone.
I love the idea of the flower ring about the wine bottle. Very clever! I also smiled at your plate stack. I saw the red heart platter at Target today, considered it, then put it back. After seeing your smart plate stack, I went on line and ordered a pair to pick up tomorrow. Thanks for inspiring me to add a pair for chargers.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
