Merry and Bright Candy Cane Christmas Tablescape + DIY Candy Cane Floral Centerpiece

Create a merry and bright centerpiece for your Christmas table and holiday season using candy canes.

December has flown by, it’s hard to believe that Christmas is next week!

I couldn’t resist having a little dish fun, sharing one last table that’s merry and bright,

while enjoying the twinkle of the Christmas tree.

A pair of Christmas plaid plates provided the table inspiration,

appropriate for a season of red and green, along with merry red and green plaid throw,

serving as a tablecloth.

Candy cane napkin rings hold a pair of napkins,

a Christmas berry pattern married with red and green stripe.

I used a favorite ‘vase-within-a-vase’ method to create the candy cane / peppermint candy

flower arrangement as a centerpiece for the table.

Start with two vases, a smaller one to nest inside a larger one (round vases work too, they don’t have to be square).

Place your flowers in the inner vase and fill the walls between the vases with your decorative

material to conceal the flower stems. I use candy canes and peppermint candies to fill the vase walls.

 Confession time: I am a hoarder. I keep candy canes for Christmas decorating,

in a Ziploc bag away stored from heat and humidity, so they last from year-to-year.

Since my outer vase height was taller than the length of the candy canes,

I filled the space at the bottom with peppermint candies.

Fill your inner vase with water and then add you’re ready to add your flowers.

 Alstroemeria from the grocery store is my ‘go-to’ flower ($4 a bunch)

since they are readily available in a variety of colors,

are affordable and long-lasting, up to two weeks.

In addition to alstroemeria, I added some evergreens, free-for-the-clipping.

To add some interest to the arrangement, I used some florist picks to wire a few pine cones

to some candy canes, along with some red ornament picks, to tuck in among the flowers.

Red sparkly branch picks that I’ve used in our Christmas tree over the years add a little color and height.

Magnolia leaves, boxwood sprigs and Leyland cypress make a natural evergreen runner

sprinkled with red and white striped  ornaments, candy canes, and peppermint candies.

Red and green mercury glass votives, add a some sparkle and a warm glow to the table.
