We’re sipping
Taylors of Harrogate China Rose Petal Tea,
a China Congou black loose leaf tea layered with pink rose petals.

It’s a mellow, sweet-tasting tea with a wonderfully perfumed aroma,
ideal for serving with sweet treats or pastries in the afternoon.
It can be enjoyed hot or as a refreshing iced tea for the summer.

Sweeten your tea with DIY Flower Sugar Cubes!
Easy to make, adding a floral note and nod to spring blooms for a tea party.
These decorative sugar cubes are a fun project and come together with a
hands on time of less than 10 minutes, requiring just three ingredients
and a silicone mold.

Store your sugar cubes in an airtight container or jar until ready to use.
Use within two weeks, or keep in the freezer for longer storage.
More details to make your own, including molds found, HERE.

Join me for tea on the porch and an assortment of sweet and savory treats!

Offering an assortment of sweet and savory treats for teatime
doesn’t have to require a lot of work or time in the kitchen.
You can throw an impromptu tea party with the help of your grocery store bakery!
This tea party was easy to prepare with some shortcuts and a just few finishing touches,
like piped frosting roses, chopped herbs and a lemon-confectioners’ sugar glaze.

Black & White Cookies are an iconic New York cookie with a soft, cakey
texture, topped with half vanilla and half chocolate glaze.
I found Black & White Cookies at my local Harris Teeter but Publix also carries them.

I love the cake-like texture of these cookies and thought they would be pretty
with my floral black and white plates and some piped roses!

I gave the cookies an embellishment of blooming roses using a Russian piping tip.

The trick to using Russian piping tips is in the frosting, which has to be stiff enough to hold its shape.
You need to use an American-style buttercream frosting which has a 1:2 ratio of butter to powdered sugar.
If your frosting is too soft, the piped design will look like a blob instead of a flower.🌸

Place the tip at a 90° angle to the surface of the cookies (or cupcakes),
then pull the bag straight up slowly releasing the pressure at the same time.
Practice on a plate so you know how much pressure to use.
I used a leaf tip to pipe some green leaves.

For more sweet treats, help yourself to a Strawberry Cheesecake Madeleine and
Lemon Poppy Seed Mini Scone, from Target’s bakery.
You can find a variety of mini scone flavors at Publix too.
I gave the mini scones a drizzle of lemon-confectioners’ sugar glaze for some additional lemon flavor:
Start with 1 cup confectioners’ sugar and add 1 – 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice.
Mix sugar with lemon juice, adding 1 tablespoon of juice at a time until reaching desired consistency.
Drizzle glaze over top of scones; allow glaze to set before serving.

For savory teatime treats, we’re nibbling on Cheese Straws,
Pimento Cheese Tea Sandwiches and Chicken Salad Mini Phyllo Cups.
Pick up some ready made cheese straws or you can find a recipe for
Cheddar Cheese Wafers with Pecans.
Your food processor does all the work and they can be baked ahead and frozen for up to 3 months.

I always have a couple of trays of Athens Phyllo Shells
in the freezer for easy entertaining.
They’re fully baked and ready to serve with sweet or savory fillings.
For best texture, crisp the shells prior to filling by baking 3-5 minutes at 350ºF.
Allow shells to cool before filling.

We’re fans of Palmetto Cheese and always have a container (or two :) in the fridge.

It has the taste and texture of homemade pimento cheese, born in the Lowcountry of South Carolina,
with the recipe originating in Pawleys Island, SC at the historic Sea View Inn.
Palmetto Cheese is now available 10,000+ locations in 45 States and Washington D.C.
If you’re a fan of pimento cheese and haven’t tried it, you’re in for a treat!
It comes in Original Flavor, with Jalapenos, with Bacon and in a Pepper Jack Palmetto Cheese flavor.

To make your tea sandwiches, spread your pimento cheese
on Pepperidge Farm Very Thin White Bread.
I like to spread a layer of mayonnaise on the bread first to help
the pimento cheese spread more easily, or if you’re anti-mayo {*gasp*} use softened butter.
Trim the crusts, cut on the diagonal (or in rectangles) and dress your tea sandwiches
up with chopped fresh chopped herbs of choice . . .
parsley, tarragon and chives or a combination.

Dredge your tea sandwich edges in the herbs, turning sandwiches
on each side to lightly coat pimento cheese mixture.
Serve immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 12 hours.

Mary, what a beautiful tea table. So fresh and inviting! I love all your tips and recipes. I want to try the Russian piping tips too.
Your black and white China with flowers is so pretty.
Your talents are inspiring as always.
We also love palmetto pimento cheese. I’ve served it for years, even at wedding receptions. Always a hit!
Lots to pin here today!
Many thanks!
I have always heard the saying “dont go grocery shopping when you are hungry” …..well, I think I must apply that to reading your stories. I am ready to rush out to buy the cookies, make pimento cheese and chicken salad. Instead I will think about all the delightful treats you share with us.😀. Your creativity and talent amaze me every single day! Peace
Oh Mary! This is so wonderful on many different levels! The China, the food that is truly a work of art, and your impeccable tutorials of how we can achieve having a most memorable Tea Party such as this one! Miss you all! ❤️
Good morning, Mary. The rose petal tea sounds delicious. The three tiered tray is beautifully enticing. The grocery store bakery is perfect for me and easy for an impromptu tea party. The black and white cookies are stunningly displayed on the floral black and white plates with the piped roses! Lemon poppy seed scones would be great with my morning coffee. I am a big fan of pimiento cheese and I will be looking out for the Palmetto Cheese in my grocery stores!
It would be a pleasure to join you on the porch for tea and treats! It is always a treat to share tea with you! Happy Tuesday ❤️
Oh, Mary, where to begin? I love the idea of having tea on your porch, the pups at our feet or better yet, in my lap. The black and white floral dishes make my heart sing. How clever to add the piped flowers to the black and white cookies. I MUST remember this idea, though I’ve not been very successful with a piping tube. I need more practice! Love all the food tips. I’m all for a beautiful, elegant spread with little work. Like you, I keep pimiento cheese on hand, but I need to look for the Palmetto Cheese. I already keep the filo cups on hand. They are so perfect for filling with various salads. When in Atlanta, I was introduced to gluten free cheese straws that were delicious. I need to order some to keep on hand. Your menu would be perfect for next March when I host my antique club again. I’ll add the Taylors of Harrogate China Rose Petal Tea to my tea selections. A good rose petal tea is always a treat. It made me smile to see the little silver floral spoons. Perfect with those darling plates!
Thanks, as always, for including me in this month’s Tea on Tuesdays. It’s a pleasure and honor to have tea with you and Pam anytime.
AND, this was truly a visual delectable treat!! Oh, my… ❤️!!! franki

China Rose Petal Tea sounds lovely, I’ll take mine iced please with 1 flower sugar cube. The assortment of treats sound so good, and I love all the shortcuts. The Black & White Cookies look amazing with your piped icing roses! You are so smart to use grocery store finds and amp them up a little for a party presentation~love the Palmetto Cheese sandwiches garnish with herbs, so pretty!

You are the most clever hostess, gardener and decorator. I don’t comment often but I always read and try your ideas. They don’t compare to yours but I enjoy them. Thank you for faithfully creating the prettiest blog!
Good Morning Mary. What a lovely tea time you have set for us. I enjoyed all the fabulous tips for making our own tea times unique.
I always enjoy sitting with you and viewing all your pretties. Thank you for the inspiration!
Happy Tuesday!
Lovely, simply lovely. The black and white china on the pink floral tablecloth is so eye-popping. Your photos are worthy of a book. The herb tea sandwiches are so appealing, yum, yum. Wonderful flowers, so inspiring. Makes me want to dig in the china hutch for a new vessel for flowers. Your creativity is used for greater good than your former retail career. Sweet, sweet, sweet.
Mary, Your tea table is elegant and enticing. I have never heard of black and white cookies but they sound good and you made them beautiful! Your tiered treats are perfect for a tea and have made me very hungry! I love the way you did the pimento cheese sandwich edges. Your linens and dishware are gorgeous. The Peabody Hotel in Memphis couldn’t serve a more beautiful and tasty tea! Enjoy your day. Clara❤️
The black and white cookies with the lush decorative flowers were just beautiful. I’m already on the look out for those when I go shopping. Everything looks so inviting! Thank you for showing how a lovely tea can be made from store prepared items with some special touches. I’d definitely enjoy a tea like this!
What a perfectly delightful wonderful afternoon tea you’ve created, Mary. This is such a great post – especially for many whom have never attempted hosting a tea party. You’ve certainly inspired me. It’s just beautiful.
What a visually stunning blog this is for Tea Afficionados! Where can the cookies and cheese straws be purchased?
Love all the food that you have prepared!
Hi Judy, I bought the cookies at Harris Teeter but I’ve seen them at Publix and Lowes Foods. The same for the cheese straws. My hubby really likes ‘Mama Geraldine’s Aged Cheddar Cheese Straws’ but I can’t always find them. Thank you for your visit ♥
Mary, your teatime preparations are wonderful. Your cookies are like little works of art, and go with your Grace’s teaware beautifully. I’d so enjoy sitting on the porch with you and sharing time over tea.
I ❤️ all your teatime tips for an easy party, Mary. Your black and white cookies look divine and so, so pretty on that floral plate. I have those tips from your inspiration and I need to use them again. I appreciate all the beauty and love that you share with us.
Stunning! I love using store bought items and making them your own – you have
perfected this art…thank you!

Mary, such a beautiful array for a lovely teatime. Perfect for people who want to host a tea party. The Grace black and white floral tea set is so pretty and those black and white cookies do match. Love the assortment of goodies. None of those stores here in California for cheese straw. The flowers look gorgeous with all of the floral dishware.
Always so beautiful here!
Mary your Tea party is a world of beautiful colors.
