Birds of a Feather

A few bird sightings while boating over the weekend. . .

Herons are very patient fishermen :-) Read more about Blue Herons Here.

This island on the lake is restricted for nesting April thru August– there are over 100 nesting Blue Herons during this time.

We only spotted a couple in the tree tops while boating this past weekend. The trees will be full of them in another month or so. I’ve always thought Blue Herons look a little Dr. Suess-esque. . .

Here’s an Osprey nesting on a Shoal marker~they tend to nest on man-made structures.

  More about Osprey Here.

And a pair nesting on a duck blind. . .

Such great photos of the different bird around the water. I took a photo of a great blue heron standing in our pond yesterday and will post it later.

Enjoyed your post! Coincidentally, I took some photos of a blue heron today at my beach house. Unfortunately, my photography skills aren’t as good as yours! These are beautiful shots!

Love your pictures of the Blue Heron and the Osprey! I searched for a Blue Heron last week and couldn’t find one…I settled for my friend, the egret! Isn’t it fun to watch the birds?

Those wading birds always look like they are going to topple those trees! Great photos and I learned about another meme: Southern Daydreamer. Also learned of another NC blog (yours)!

Terrific captures, such beautiful birds! The Blue Herons looked a little Dr. Suess-esque to me, too! Have a great day!! Thanks for your visit/comment! Always appreciated!

Thank God someone cared enough to set aside an area for these grand birds to nest and thrive. So many species of birds and animals are forced out of natural habitats by development. Thanks for sharing these remarkable photos proving that nature is still thriving in some parts of NC. The Blue Heron is a beautiful, graceful and in it’s own way, a bit fragile bird.

Great shots of the herons and osprey. I think it is great that there is an area restricted for nesting.
