I’m at the table with Red, White and Liberty Blue in anticipation of Independence Day!
It’s hard to believe the 4th of July is Tuesday. To celebrate America’s birthday, I’m waving the flag and setting the table with Staffordshire Liberty Blue!
Liberty Blue dinnerware was created by Enoch Wedgwood Company, in the historic Staffordshire district of England. It was designed on behalf of Benjamin Franklin Federal Savings and Loan, as a promotional item in commemoration of the company’s 50th anniversary in 1975, and in celebration of the American Bicentennial in 1976.
Fifteen different historic scenes from the American colonial period were used on the Liberty Blue dinnerware. I found dinner plates at a favorite antique mall recently. The dinner plates feature Independence Hall, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where both the United States Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were debated and adopted.
An ironstone pitcher serves as a vase and centerpiece for the table, filled with hydrangeas that are blooming and flags that are waving.
I exercised my freedom and independence, using a ‘Happy 4th of July’ cake topper/banner, atop the hydrangeas instead of a cake. ;)
Party favor American flag paper fans, provide a star-spangled way to beat the heat. . .
Red, white & blue mini crackers are a patriotic twist on Victorian-era crackers, providing each guest with a bang, pop, and a nod to ‘the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,’ and with some Independence day trivia and a fun surprise inside.

A fine tribute for our country’s celebration!
My Mother had that Stafford Liberty Blue when it was first produced. My oldest sister inherited them because she always cherished them. I love the Pfaltzgraff American Bead flatware and paisley tablecloth. Your blue hydrangea in the pitcher are the perfect centerpiece with the little flags and cake topper. YES!!! My very FAVORITE!!! Tablescape with the a View!!! Of beautiful Lake Norman! Posts of this setting is what made me start following your blog, Mary! I absolutely LOVE it!!! I also love the Red, White and Liberty Blue dinnerware and all your patriotic decorations! I think I love it so much because it brings back wonderful memories of my childhood and young adult days spent on the lake. And the fact that I am a Tablescape addict. As usual, everything is just so well put together from the beautiful flags by the lakeshore, to the fans on the table and the lovely terra cotta planter on the column by the table! Thanks Karen! I haven’t been able to do a lakeside table in a while with all our rain. My planters cane from Target several years ago, they’re actually lightweight, faux terra cotta so they don’t freeze and crack. 🇺🇸🌺😀

Mary your new plates are awesome! Thanks for the history lesson. I think it’s neat that they are about American Colonial days but made in England – our former mother country. ha. Love the lake view! You find the neatest things at that antique mall. I swear if I’m ever in the area I WILL visit that antique mall, it has SO MANY wonderful items. Mary Happy 4th. My husband and I live in the historic district of our small North Carolina River Town. This years celebration is Saturday. The celebration is hosted at a different river front home each year. We hosted several years ago and when our turn comes up again I will certainly use some of your inspirational ideas.
