St. Nick is delivering joy and cheer at the table and arriving by sleigh
to wish you a Merry December!

Fun fact you may not know:
St. Nick is nature and animal lover, so his sleigh comes loaded
with a tree, sprigs of holly, a pair of bunnies, birds and birdhouses.
🐇 🐦 🐰

Join me at the table on the porch!
It feels like fall lasted about 20 minutes here in NC.
Our weather has been mild and comfortable for porch dining until this weekend,
when winter blew in, dropping temps down in the 20s with snow showers overnight!

Using evergreens to the deck the halls or the table is one of my favorite ways to add a bit of nature
and ‘freshness’ at the holidays! Freshly-cut evergreens make the house so fragrant and are a
wonderful addition for the holidays, especially if you use an artificial tree.

While you can always use a ready-made garland on your table,
I like to create an evergreen runner the easy way, no wiring required!

I started with some greenery clipped from the trees and shrubs. . . boxwood, cedar, Leyland cypress, magnolia leaves, along with some pinecones as the base for the runner/ centerpiece. I laid the greenery down the center out of the table, starting with the cypress, then mixing in other bits and pieces of other greenery to fill in, adding different textures.

Helpful tips:
🎄 Cut longer pieces of greenery apart, piecing them back together so they’ll lay flat on the table.

🎄 Cut more greenery than you think you need and keep it in a bucket of water until you’re ready to assemble. Having all your greenery ready to go, makes for quick and easy assembly, so you don’t have to stop and gather more greenery if you run out.

🎄 You also can spray your greenery with an antitranspirant, like Crowning Glory Floral Spray
or Wilt Pruf, to keep your greenery from drying out, staying fresh longer.

🎄 Evergreens vary in their sap production, one cedar tree can differ than another, so check your greenery for sap and stickiness before using it on the table. Alternatively to keep sap off your table, layer your greenery on a piece of wax paper as a barrier between the greenery and the surface of your table or tablecloth.

🎄 For the other elements of the runner / centerpiece, I used some red mercury glass votives, berry picks and red ornament picks.

St. Nick is featured in the licensed art designs of Lisa Audit for
Certified International Christmas Story Plates.
The salad plates are served on Woodland Berry Chargers from Williams-Sonoma,
purchased several years ago, and red beaded placemats to add some sparkle.

In case you haven’t noticed, my philosophy is ‘the more the merrier’ ;) and two different napkin rings, a tartan plaid, and a beaded wreath napkin ring, marry a pair of napkins. . . a red paisley with a white holly and berry pattern. I also like a mixture of metallic finishes and Mikasa Parchment Gold Flatware, marries silver with accents of gold on the border.

St. Nick comes bearing a wreath. . .

Delivering a tree . . .

Offering Poinsettias . . .

A carrying a lantern to light his way.

I love these Christmas story plates! Your table most definitely gets me inspired to want to do more, more, more in decking the halls. Time has been limited for me so far this year, but seeing all the pretties you assemble makes me want to just take time and pull out more. I love your mix of patterns, metals, double napkins and rings, and there’s nothing like the real thing in greenery. Such a beautiful table. The WS chargers are favorites, too. They lend such a natural woodland vibe, perfect for St. Nick’s trek through the woods with his delivery.
Thank you, Mary for bringing holiday spirit with your table talents to this hop!
Mary, My neighbor has the most fragrant evergreen branches. Today, I’ll pay them a visit and ask for a few branches to make this beautiful centerpiece. I have a small sleigh which will be table top perfect.
Thank you as always for the great inspiration !

Merry Tuesday and good morning, Mary! A natural runner of fresh greens is my favorite and offers a beautiful fragrance. The four different St. Nick plates are perfect layered over the woodland berry chargers and the red beaded placemats. I adore your mixing of patterns and textures, it creates a unique tabletop. Fitz and Floyd Santa and Sleigh cookie jar is the star of the table! I have always loved the colorful details of F&F pieces.
I look forward to pulling up a chair at one of your stunning tabletop designs! They are always a feast for the eyes❤️🎄

Ohh, how i would enjoy sitting here at your table! I adore the Santa plates and can’t decide on which setting I would choose to sit at. The first thing that caught my eye is your plaid tablecloth – so pretty and festive! You have created a stunning centerpiece, too. Enjoy the season!
I love using fresh greenery on the table. At my old house, we had a lot of evergreens, a big holly, bush, and a boxwood hedge, so it was easy to find greenery to use. Where I live now, not so much.
Mary, once again, a beautiful table setting!
The Santa’s salad plates are so pretty mixed with the William Sonoma dinner plates. The woodland look is a favorite this time of year.
So happy to see a centerpiece that would be easy to put together with natural materials from my own yard! Thank you for the tips to keep the greenery fresh.
Pinning pictures for my Christmas board!
I always enjoy your December tablescapes when you use your tartan tablecloth. I love my tartan tablecloth but always hesitate to share when family/friends come over for a meal for fear of stains. I know, I know, it’s like good china, why keep it in the cupboard and never use it? So thank you for sharing yours with us!
You ladies always have so much fun!
Another beautiful table! This is where I learned that it was ok to put plaids and other patterns together! I have always loved your Fitz & Floyd pieces! Thanks for sharing!
LOve the china, Love the plaid, Love it all. So very festive and charming. . . .I think I could live in your china closet with all the sweet stacks of china. . . .please, yes, thank you.
Your Santa plates are so cute and I love the holly napkins. The evergreen table runner is beautiful and it must smell fabulous. Another wonderful table.

Mary, I’m with St. Nick and all about the woodland animals. I smile that his sleigh is full of nature, sweet bunnies, and birds. The Santa gift dinnerware atop the woodland berry chargers really set a gorgeous table reflecting gifts of nature. Your thoughtfully created centerpiece also reflects nature’s woodland. I like a simple garland of fresh greens. As with all your tables, Mary, this one sparks joy! Thank you for sharing your talents with each of us. Happy Holidays!

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and holiday season.
Mary, I love how luxuriant your table looks, starting with the lovely evergreen runner. It’s the mix of materials that makes it really special, though I’m sure the scent in person is wonderful and takes it to another level. St. Nicholas looks right at home riding atop it in his sleigh. Your choice of disparate patterns in similar colors is beautifully harmonious and presents a visual treat no matter where you sit. Thanks for the idea of combining napkin rings as well as napkins, one I’ll have to try. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
