Here’s a little weekend waterview from Lake Norman. . .
Today is Sunday for those of you like us who have lost track during these strange and unprecedented times. ;)
It’s felt more like summer rather than spring here in North Carolina with temperatures in the 80s the past two weeks . . .
With schools closed and our unseasonably warm spring weather, most weekdays feel like a Saturday or Sunday judging by the boat activity on the lake.
We couldn’t help but notice that some people are observing social distancing. . .
And others not.
Starting Monday at 5pm, North Carolina is under a mandatory ‘stay at home order’ until April 29th to help slow the spread of Covid-19.
We’ve been following our own ‘stay at home’ order the past two weeks with my hubby working from home and with only a weekly trip to the grocery store.
Enjoying some boating, fresh air and welcome sunshine after all our recent rain, and taking advantage of the warm temperatures.
With some sight seeing and house eye-candy from the water. . .
Lola and Sophie hope you’re staying safe as you navigate these strange waters. . .
Our thoughts and prayers are with our heathcare workers, those who are sick, and others who have lost their jobs and whose businesses are in jeopardy during these uncertain times.
Hope you can enjoy some fresh air and sunshine this weekend. . .it’s good for your mental health!
Mary, thanks so much for many years of new projects, recipes, beautiful lake scenery, and your Bischons. Up here in NYS, we’ve been quarantined for days…I’ve actually lost track of how many. Currently I’m wishing I was painting but decided I should crank out face masks for our brace medical workers, or anybody who wants them. For old folks in our 70s, Joe and I are doing well. You stay well, too. Richie Claudia
Thank you for another beautiful post!
Wow. That’s a long shelter in place order. Ours extends to April 3rd. I bet though that it extends longer though by the time we get to it. We’ve already been home two weeks except for a couple of trips out. Be safe.
We are starting our 8th week. My ex husband had foot surgery on February 11th and the surgeon told us to get supplies and hunker down as it was already starting to get bad here and the excessive hoarding had already begun. Our Mandate does not lift until May 15th to be reassessed closer to that date. We had camping reservations for several trips at both State and Federal campgrounds – all have been cancelled and money refunded.
This wiped everything through August of this year – so that tells me we can kiss our summer goodbye! Backyard it will be and will make the most of it. He is also in a high risk group and needs to be protected. I can tell stories until the cows come home! Hang in there, be safe! We are all in this together, united we stand, divided we fall.
Thank you for the joy you brought us this morning, The sky here in Michigan looks just like yours after days of torrential rains. It and your skies, brought back hope that delightfully wonderful days of summer will come and all will be right in the wold . Bless you and your family.
hi Mary, don’t you feel grateful to be able to get out on your boat for a taste of freedom! There is a lot of boat activity on our gulf coast too, and they aren’t social distancing! I heard that the marine police were going to start enforcing today, not letting boats pull up next to each other on sandbars and islands…should be interesting! Thank goodness for the warm sunny days… I am loving this laid back life style [when not listening to the news] Stay safe and enjoy 🚤🌞🐾

That was beautiful, I needed that! Ca has been in lockdown for weeks, the beach house has been struggling with crowds like 4th of july, not honoring the stay inside in your own community, police patrols are in place now. I hope you are all safely ensconced and supplied, you too have a gorgeous place to live, it’s a whole other world now, I wish good health and comfort to all.
Thankyou Mary I am spending as much time outside in the garden as possible . The daylilies I got from you in a giveaway are doing great and can’t wait 3 see the blooms. Yesterday I divided and potted up Hostas. Today Heucheras will be split and replanted. Might as well have a pretty garden to enjoy even though my husband and I will be the only ones to see it. Spring is not being slowed down by this virus. Stay well .
I can’t even find the words for those who blatantly choose not to distance. It just blows my mind.
Like you, we’ve been staying home since March 13. Stay safe, Mary.
Hi Mary ~ things are the same here in NW CT except for the weather ! Anxiously awaiting Spring. Thanks for such a beautiful post. Your two pups look like perfectly white hydrangea blooms ! They sure enjoy the boat ! Please stay safe and healthy! Hugs, Dorinda
Thank you for the beautiful pictures! And your dogs – so cute! I rarely comment, but I always read your posts. I love them, and I so look forward to them – especially now!
Mary,Thanks for the Sunday Post! Really needed some fresh positive atmosphere. Your photos are gorgeous! Lola and Sophie are the cutest.
Thank you for brightening our day……
LUCKY!! We’ve had one..that 1 day of sunshine thus past week…hopefully, that will change soon! Which one of those houses are yours?? LOL!! Pet the dogs for me!! ♥️♥️♥️
Good Morning! Thank you for another beautiful Sunday pick me up. I always love to read your posts, now more than ever. Smiling and tearing up at the same time, remembering normalcy, and thinking of those risking their own safety to protect and care for anyone affected by this. All I can say is shame on you to those who are not taking safe measures to keep this contained. It has to end soon. We have been snuggled in our home for 2 weeks as our state is on lock down, which so far is through the end of April. Keep your posts coming, they are a well needed distraction during this very scary time. Having 2 Bichons of my own, I always love seeing when yours are featured. Have a wonderful day, and keep safe.
Thank you for your post. Your dogs are adorable. Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you, these photos are great, thank you and stay safe and healthy!

Thanks so much for posting such lovely pictures! I look forward to reading your posts especially now that we are all at home ! Please know how much love and joy that you bring into our lives!
A beautiful boat ride Mary! Lola and Sophie are so cute! It’s refreshing to see most people having fun safely. We’ve been under a stay at home for a week locally but we started a couple of weeks ago due to being over 60. We only get out for groceries and try to pre order as many as possible to get them delivered to the car or to pick up just inside the store. We’re forced to go through the store to look for meat so my husband does that. We found hamburger meat finally & that was the best burger! Who knew a simple home grilled burger would bring such joy? Lol The healthcare providers definitely need our prayers! They’re witnessing things that will haunt them for years to come! Thanks to all who are on the front lines! Stay safe and thank you Mary for your wonderful blog! It’s always uplifting! Take care sweet friend! Clara ♥️
I so enjoy these posts and especially the tablescapes (recipes & hints pretty great too).
Thank you for continuing to post. Stay healthy & hope-filled!
Thanks, Mary, for some safe, sane, beautiful and peaceful photos. Even though we are hunkered down here, it’s warmish and sunny, and we are able to go outside to our garden for daily Vitamin D accompanied by the chirps and tweets of the avian residents. And the barking of our two girls, who are vigilant about letting us know if a blowing leaf dares to land in our garden! Making the best of it. Take care, and please keep posting.
So lovely to see the water views with your precious pups. Those of us that can get outside are the lucky ones right now. With our mountain views, we don’t feel so much hemmed in. We have been staying home anyway, so the lockdown order for NC for us won’t be too difficult. I am making a plan for the next few weeks to keep myself busy and sane. Stay well!!
Every time we’ve been to our son’s in Statesville I ask to go see the houses on Lake Norman but never have got to go!!! Everything looked so relaxing on the water! We’ve been spending time out in our yard finally have had some beautiful weather trying to get things cleaned up from the winter!!!!!!!!!!!!
As always, a beautiful post ~ thank you. May you and your family stay well~
Keep safe. Your posts bring joy!
Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful views. Fresh air helps the soul. A walk thru the garden is refreshing as the roses are ready to pop open, the lilacs are offering quite a display, pansies, snapdragons and more are showing us Mother Nature is with us in these uncharted times.
Stay safe, stay well. ❤️🐾🐾
Same!!! franki
Your pups Lola and Sophie are so cute, what kind are they? They look like my daughters dog, her name is Daisy, when my cat was alive the 2 did not get a long, my cat Milo would hiss at Daisy.,wish I had a pet now.
Thank you Ann, they’re Bichons. We used to be a 2 dog and 3 cat household about 25 years ago. They got along great :)
My daughter’s dog is a COTTON DE TULEAR got some bananas today, so going to make your banana bread
Mary, you are fortunate to live on such natural beauty and have the opportunity to escape on the water. We have been at home for weeks, Austin being under mandatory stay at home orders. Unfortunately too many think it doesn’t apply to them. So many are giving up their income to follow the rules in place, while others treat it like it is some kind of vacation. All of us will pay the price for those who are selfish and do as they wish.
Stay safe and stay healthy. Thanks for your beautiful posts. They are uplifting. Please keep them coming.
Thank you, thank you, Mary. It was fun virtually boating with you and yours! What a beautiful area you live in!
Love the dogs tails blowing in the wind. I can’t understand if you are under a stay at home order why there are so many in boats together? People need to take social distancing seriously and stay 6 feet apart. Even family members. In my state we are not allowed out of our house unless we are essential workers. Everything is shut down. Stay safe!
Mary, Thanks for sharing your scenery, ideas, recipes and Lola and Sophie which always brings in joy each day that I open your post. It is really hot (a little above normal for this time of year) here in Florida and a lot of activity on the lake. Wishing safety for you and family during this virus period.
Ha-ha, lovin’ those fuzzy tails in the first pic Mary! Enjoy your nice weather, kinda blah in Philly this weekend-take care:@)
Mary, thank you for so much for all the amazing posts you given us throughout the years. You’re my guilty pleasure. No matter how busy things get on my end, I can’t wait for your creative genius to arrive in my inbox. Now, sequestered in my 1930’s bungalow in So Cal, I look forward to them even more! So, thanks again for the cathartic ride on the lake today (I could almost feel the spray of the water on my face-I particularly LOVED the house eye-candy!). Stay healthy and safe! Shannon
PS: Sophie and Breydan (my two Belgium Sheppard’s) send their oh-so-very-enthusiastic hellos to Lola and Sophie… By their 10-decibel barking, I would say they were just a tad bit put out not to have been on that boat beside them. ;)
Beautiful post. And, seeing those fluffy girls out on the boat was very good for my mental health!
Thanks Mary for such an uplifting post. My husband and I are in our 80’s and have been quarantined for several weeks now. Who knows how long! I’m so thankful for my yardwork. Just wish I could go get some plants to put in my pots. So thankful for good health and family ❤️
Ahhhhh, the water! How wonderful! I could see me sqeezed in on that back cushion, snuggling up to the girls. That would be such an awesome ride! Those “castles” are over-the-top gorgeous! Wow and wow! Happy you can enjoy the scenery and a fun ride. Nothing like the water, sunny skies and big white puffy clouds to calm the heart and mind. Just looking at these pictures makes me happy. Thank you. ♥️
I’ll bet it was so nice to get in the boat and enjoy the fresh air with Lola and Sophie. I enjoyed the views, so thank you very much. Take care, Mary, and stay well and safe.
Such treat, thank you, Mary…
As always, your post lifted my spirits. And that can be no small task during this time! As I admired your precious dogs I wondered how you keep them so clean and white. Especially living by the lake!
Beautiful water views and sweet Lola and Sophie don’t have a care in the world ♥️
Thank you for your beautiful tour. We live in Va.on the water too and watched as the USNS Comfort went by on its way to N.Y. These are indeed uncertain times and any small glimmer of hope helps us all to get through another day. Thank you again for all that you do keep hope alive for all of us.
Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing with us!
So beautiful and peaceful being on the lake. Love your photos and your babies! Thank you for sharing. xo
Begnning week #3 of sheltering-in-place here in NJ. We lived in a wooded section and the beech trees are STILL holding on the the brown leaves. The daffodils are up, however, and the trees are just beginning to bud. Do you groom your dogs? There will certainly be a frenzied rush to our human and animal groomers when this passes!!!!
Lovely photos Mary – thanks for sharing your gorgeous weather with us!
Your pictures are such a delight! But Lola and Sophie are the gems on the water!
Keep posting… we need your pretty pretties!
❤️🙏🏻
Mary, thank you for your wonderful posts! I get a bit behind with lots of emails, but then I watch several at a time, which is a real treat. Your recipes are always delicious! Thanks for helping to keep up everyone’s spirits!
Just magnificent! Your weather has been spectacular as well. So enjoy every single post, even if I do not comment every time. So beautifully presented and ALWAYS a bright spot in my day. Very much appreciate all the hard work that it takes – thanks for sharing. Be safe!
LOVE your Bichons!!! I have two also, Kolbey and Kylii!!! Just the loves of my life.
I love your posts. We have been sheltering in place in the State of Washington for 2 months now. I am so glad that the weather is nice and we can enjoy working in our back yard and relaxing on our back porch.
