Happy Monday!

It’s officially nesting season and every bird is welcome!

I took my cue from the birds to feather my nest . . .

Following the birds’ lead to bring my nesting instincts to the Potting Bench.

Long time readers know I love birds. . .

Feeding and watching the birds is a favorite winter pastime.

In addition to winter, we keep our feeders filled in the spring and summer months

when the birds are busy nesting and feeding their broods.

Song and Garden Birds of North America is a favorite vintage volume,

filled with colorful pages and field notes for bird watching and identification.

Bluebirds have 2 – 3 broods a season.

Both parents bring food to the nestlings and young bluebirds

from a previous brood will often help to feed the nestlings.

A collection of birdhouses, some decorative and some functional,

A birdhouse I picked up for a song needed some rehab and lacked curb appeal.

It got a makeover HERE with the addition of some salvaged junk finds.

This is a fun project for a birdhouse you already have, whether you use it

decoratively or want to add some curb appeal for your feathered friends.

Bluebirds are a gardener’s best friend with their voracious appetite

for insects, naturally ridding the garden of pests.

This faux watering can is designed as a planter.

It also serves as birdhouse ~ triple the fun for me!

Wonderful pictures! I love the redo of the birdhouse. We have blue birds in our yard (as well as many others) which I so enjoy watching. You capture Mother Nature so magically. Thanks for starting my week with a smile! Peace.

You always make such fun little groupings! Love it! We’ve still been a bit chilly and rainy in the Midwest, but that will change soon. Then we can get out, work in the garden and make them too! Great inspiration, thank you.

Good Morning Mary from chilly Greensboro.
This is one of my favorite blogs you have done. Just when I think you can’t top yourself you surprise me with a new creative collection of beautiful photos and wonderful ideas. I have an old unused table I hope would make a great potting table. Going to give it a try.
I think my Bluebirds have fledged their first brood and are thinking about a second. The Wrens, Chickadees, Phoebe and many other bird couples are very busy with nesting and feeding their young. We too feed the birds all year and love when they bring the youngsters to our feeders.
Supposed to be great outdoor weather this week. Enjoy the beauty of our natural world and your lovely home.

I couldn’t pick a favorite! They are all cute/creative/adorable! My fav was not shown which is a hummingbird feeder (I know it’s not a nest) but they are one of my favorite birds! I put my feeder up Saturday & a hummer showed up immediately! Happy bird watching!! 🕊

Mary, I knew you would have great fun with your potting bench. I love that you styled it with your feathered friends in mind. The blue bird photos are beautiful, they are hard workers and fun to watch! Happy Monday!

Mary your potting bench looks wonderful with your collection of bird houses, urns and nests. It’s a lovely time of year and I see the birds are busy building their nests and having babies. We recently had mallards nesting by our pool. I had hopes of seeing them marching their babies out, however they must have left at night. We have orioles nesting in the same tall palm tree every year. Also they nest in our large sun decor on the wall. A pleasure to see all of your fun bird decor.

🐦Love the vintage birdhouses, finials, urns, and ceramic nesting boxes! The potting bench is curated so nicely. Everything fits! Well done, Mary! I forwarded this to my daughter who loves gardening. 🐦🐦🐦

Ohh my Momma adored gardening and birds! She had a little canary that lived almost ten years (he had the best of care, I honestly didn’t think they lived that long!) Momma would have loved this post as I do. My little grandson has his great grandma’s love of birds too which we encourage by taking him to wild bird sanctuaries and letting him feed them. So exciting to have a chickadee land on a tiny open hand holding seed.

So wonderful Mary, I especially enjoyed your bird’s nest placemats! We are having gusty winds, rain, and even snow still. Every once in a while we have a bit of sunshine though, and we spotted our first Robin, what a joy! We used to have a little family build the nest in our apple tree for many years, we have missed them the past two years. Thank you Mary, your posts always bring joy and awe.

I know that we won’t stay in this home forever, and it’s the home we raised our daughter in. Absolutely inspired to create a birdhouse in the image of our home. One for us, and one for our daughter’s future home! Love the inspiration, as always!

Your new happy place Mary! I know you will have so much fun styling and rearranging your new/old potting bench! I love all your adorable bird themed things, but what will you do if a bird takes up residence somewhere on your bench? Last year a bird family nested inside our favorite watering can so it was of no use all season :) I do love watching and finding different varieties of birds, such sweet and fascinating creatures 🦜

Beautiful. I ordered that book. Beautiful graphics, reminds me of old wall paper..

  18. May 9, 2022 at 7:24 pm

I love feeding and watching the birds, Mary. I’m still hoping to see a blue bird, but no luck yet. A friend gave me a squirrel proof bird feeder that she wasn’t using, NYE im not seeing a lot of birds at it 😞. I love seeing all your bird houses. The birdies must love hanging out at your garden.

Mary, You have a lovely collection of bird houses. Your potting bench is beautifully styled. Watching the birds is a wonderful past time we also enjoy. They always let us know when the bird feeders are low. Enjoy the week! It’s going to be hot! Clara ❤️

Your birdhouse collection is amazing! I wonder if any birds will nest upon your garden bench?! The bluebirds are my absolute favorite. They are so busy, and so good-looking.

  21. May 10, 2022 at 6:34 pm

Love every square inch of this! I need to fill my 6 feeders daily, just spent the last two hours staring at 100 birds coming and going like rush hour, it gives me such joy to watch them! all your touches are fabulous, and of course we share many of the same darling pieces 😉 loved this, if I ever get spare time would love to do a bird homage myself, thought of it often, but free time is illusive!
