Gardenia blooms and buds are beginning to appear,
just as the temperatures climb into the 90’s. . .
There is something soothing to my soul
and inner thermostat :) when I see white~
“Sultry as a summer evening and as intoxicating as an exotic perfume, the scent of gardenias settles like a memory onto your soul. The blossoms are just as enticing. Buds shaped like seashells unfurl into velvet soft flowers in the warmth and humidity of early evening. But it’s the fragrance that captivates.”
“White is not a mere absence of color; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black. God paints in many colors; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white.”
~ G.K. Chesterton
And more whites . . .
If we’re not on the boat,
trying to generate a breeze,
you can find me here~
On the porch,
under the fan,
surrounded by white
& thinking cool thoughts :)
Thank you for your visit, I’m joining:
Wow, I can just imagine how fantastic they must smell! (the gardenias…not the li’l birdies)
Mary, this is breathtaking. Every image is incredible!!
Can’t you just smell those gorgeous gardenias? They just make a Southern girl smile!
Gorgeous pics! I just mentioned to someone else that, while I never really thought about it before… it’s funny to see gardenia growing outside! I’ve always thought of them as indoor plants-very pretty:@)
What a beautiful spot you have to live in. Was it busy on the lake this weekend? I love gardenias and your photos of yours are beautiful. We don’t have any but our neighbor does and I love the smell! Try to keep cool today. It’s too hot too early this year!
Love your blog. Wish we have the heat to worry over. It is in the 40’s today with predicted 50 mph wind here at 4,000 in So. Cal. Summer is still a few weeks away.
Gardenias are my most favorite fragrance in the entire world. My neighbor has about 15 bushes, covered in blooms, that I get to enjoy on my morning walk every day. The picture of your furry friends on the boat is darling!
Sweet Mary, Sweet Fragrance, Sweet Day!

I just absolutely adore this!!! I can almost smell those flowers! It’s intoxicating!!! Chloe and Gracie look so pretty!
The bird house is adorable and capturing bluebirds with your camera is a bonus….
I love gardenias….they were my mother’s most favorite flower and although I have too many favorite flowers to just decide on one, it is one of my favorite also…. Dare I mention that gardenias can bloom year-round here? I have one in my front yard, planted in honor of my mother, that gifts us with flowers almost every month.
I just planted a gardenia bush recently and am delighted to see it blooming. My grandmother had a bush when I was a young girl, and it is still my favorite fragrance. Your photographs of the bluebirds are incredible, and your two dogs are too cute!
Wow, your photos are absolutely breathtaking! Love them all. What a peaceful place you have here! Subscribed to your site.
I love those bluebird pictures! Oh, they are so sweet. And speaking of sweet, your little pups looking out over the water is truly sweet!
Beautiful photos. Gardenias are wonderfully beautiful flowers, but I cannot be anywhere near them, due to allergies. Drat! Love the photo of your pups! They are adorable! and the bluebird…never have I seen one up close.
Jane (artfully graced)

Always such beautiful photos! It helps to have such fabulous surroundings. I checked out your porch post too. So pretty! I love seeing that gorgeous blue bird. All just lovely.
I am in love with gardenias — I had them in my first corsage. Love the chairs and the the pooches. Joni
Visiting from Fishtail Cottage Flora Thursdays!
Your gardenias are lovely. I’ve always loved their scent. All of your photos depicting “white” are soothing and fresh. Glad to have found your blog —
Have a lovely Thursday! :)
Gardenias are my absolute fave flowers…I wore them on my hair when I got married! Your photos are fantastic, so spectacular and your puppies are so adorable!
Happy Cottage Flora Thursday!
I think if I lean reeaaallly close to the screen, I can smell the gardenias. I have a few this year but not as much as in year’s past. I just adore their scent.
I just love this summery post of yours and find the first photo of the gardenia flower a perfect example of beauty.
I’d love to join you by the water on the muskoka chairs for tea.
What a great post! Your lake place is so gorgeous! These Gardenias are heavenly. Ours are finally starting to do well this year. We can actually grow them in the desert.
Thank you so much for joining in for Fresh-Cut Friday! :)
Though I’m not a fan of the all-white school of decoration, I love all of your whites because they have so much depth and are all about nature. We don’t have gardenias here, except in floral shops, but I’d love to see one in its natural setting.
You know I love whites in my garden. I’m slowing moving more and more in that direction. Unfortunately I don’t have much success with gardenias. I’m about to toss out my latest one. It looks really bad.
Thanks for sharing all these cooling whites. ~ Sarah
Gardenias always remind me of summers with my grandmother in Tampa…their scent is heavenly. Love the picture of the puppies!
All of your photos are beautiful! The gardenias are so perfect..they don’t look real! ♥
What a lovely post and beautiful flowers. Love your bluebirds and the great porch.
You live in such a gorgeous place! Such pretty blooms and birds! Not to mention stunning views and such cute pups!
Omigosh, this is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing at MM> :)
I want to live with you! :D :D Love the gardenias and the birds and the water. Gorgeous!
Sigh…such lovely lovely photos! Enjoyed each and every one…
Very, very lovely!!! Crisp and clean, white! Beautiful gardenias!
The gardenias are languid and lovely. The photos make me want to reach out and touch them. Stay cool now…
Gardenias were a favourite flower of my Mother’s. I had them included in my wedding bouquet many year ago. Gorgeous. v
I used to find white boring in the garden but I am appreciating it more and more as it absolutely glows in the evening hours. Gorgeous photos!
Beautiful pictures and I would be parked in the chair overlooking the water all day long. Gorgeous!!!
WOW!! What an awesome series of photos this week. Oh, how I which we could grow gardenias here in VA. I loved them so growing up in Florida. I have tried holding them over in the house during winter but it just does not work. You will have to smell them and enjoy them for the both of us. Beautiful pictures and such a nice mosaic.
wonderful entry and pictures you have in here!
Very nice pictures. Most I like the 2 dogs :) LG Tina
I love white. I’ve always had a white sofa, white walls and white sheets. All my color is elsewhere. Are your dogs poodles?
It is amazing how white really does lower the inner thermostat! Just drinking coffee on the porch while looking at my flowers does it for me! I absolutely adore your profile pic with your furbabies…so cute!!
Gorgeous photos. I love the birdhouse with the bird captured flying in front of it.
This is so lovely. I am hosting a photobook giveaway on my blog. Would love for you to stop by.
Now I remember, Mary. I wrote a long comment on this post and hit a key not meaning to and the comment was all gone. Does that happen to anyone else out there in blogland? I was rushing out the door and did not get back to writing it over. I went to the Southern Living link and then did not see your gorgeous bluebirds!!!!! And to capture one in flight so beautifully. I am so envious you know because my husband and I love bluebirds and don’t have a great open space like they like. We are still trying though.
What I mentioned that day was that I love the quote about the intoxicating scent and that it settles like a memory on your soul! My mother’s brides bouquet was gardenias, mine was and my daughter’s. They do settle on your soul. Your pics were wonderful and your blooms so healthy! Love those mosaics too.
Gardenias are certainly a favorite.. they smell heavenly. Love your photos of them. And you white puppies.. adorable.. all your whiteness is perfect.. Many blessings, marlis
Beautiful post, fantastic photos, love the smell of gardenias! My grandmother had a gardenia plant for over 14 years in her home in NYC. I would stand there forever just smelling that plant! I never had luck with them, unfortunately. xo,
Such a beautiful and soothing post. Whenever I see gardenias, I think of my long gone grandmother. They were in her wedding bouquet.
Thanks for being a part of Seasonal Sundays.
