Skirting the Issue

My Potting Shed is a work in progress~

with just a couple of big details left to finish

and lots of small details to keep me busy

as I continue to transplant and prune :)

You can see how she’s grown here.

After dressing my windows with a roll of  landscape burlap from Lowe’s, I was on the hunt for something to topdress :) my work surface/countertops, along with fabric to skirt my work benches to conceal the storage area underneath.

My work areas are approximately

4 feet x 2 feet.

I wanted a work surface that would be functional, easy to clean, economical, and not look too finished.

I found a sheet metal shop that does HVAC duct work to cover my plywood counters with galvanized sheet metal and attach a back splash.

The total for two four-foot, medium gauge galvanized counters with back splash, and soldered edges was $75~ and ready in a day!

We used construction adhesive to secure the counter tops in place.

I found cafe curtains from Country Curtains ~ the ideal length and width for skirting my work benches.

Lucky for me, since I would rather plant or pot, than sew :)

And to conceal necessary but unsightly tools, potting soil, fertilizer, etc.

With a print complete with the

flowering charm of a cottage garden~

~that allows me to

enjoy the blooms!

Along with a little pink to accompany

my grandmother’s chest gone to pot.

Thank you for your visit!

LOVE your potting shed and your wonderful decorating ideas. Your window treatments with the burlap are darling. You are SO creative. And your metal counters. I have wanted to cover a moving island with that sheet metal but thought the cost would be prohibitive. Now I can see they are quite doable. Thanks for all your great ideas. Just wish I possessed your gardening brilliance. Everything you do is incredible!! You are an inspiration!!!

Your evolving potting shed is a playhouse! Come on…confess! You wanted a playhouse but were reluctant to let everyone know you had not outgrown a playhouse so you called it a potting shed!!!

Whatever it is…potting shed or playhouse, it is adorable and I know its going to offer you many hours of enjoyment!

Your attention to details is amazing and right on…Love it!

I love, love, love your potting shed! All you need is a chair, lamp and your favorite book for a fabulous space to unwind. I’ve always wanted a playhouse out back to “play” with. This is it. Great project……….

This space is MUCH too nice for a potting shed, Mary! It looks more like a small guest house!!! I would be freaking out if I got a speck of dirt or water on the floor! I guess it makes good sense to make it pretty and comfortable if you’re going to be spending time out there, though. No sense in being sentenced to a drab, dreary space to engage in an activity you enjoy! I like what you did with the burlap over the windows! It has an easy, natural vibe and lets the sun pour into the room as nature intended. Using natural branches makes it that much prettier. I am so happy for you that you have a nice space in which to relax and indulge in your passion. Enjoy it!

You aren’t actually going to bring dirt in there, are you? ☺ Honestly, it is so darned cute and what a cozy little garden play house you’ve made!

Hi Mary, I am truly in love with your little house! The countertops were a fabulous idea! I also see a cute little step stool between the counters and the wire on the wall between the windows, and I want to see everything in detail! Please take closeups for us! Linda

I could just move right in there, Mary! Maybe you could rent it out??!! Seriously, your cottage potting shed is so adorable. I love the sheet metal counters and the burlap swag and the darling curtains to hide what’s under the cabinets. Oh my!!
