Weekend Waterview: Reflections + Rising and Receding Water

Happy Sunday! Here’s a little weekend waterview from Lake Norman.

It’s been a crazy February, weather-wise. Mother Nature has been schizophrenic giving us 60 – 70 degree days, lows in the 20s, 4 inches of rain, tornadoes and snow flurries. . . all in the span of a week!

Four inches of rain within 24 hours caused flooding concerns with rising lake levels for those further down the Catawba River chain at Mountain Island Lake.

I took this not-too-pretty picture the day after our 4 inches of rain, with the run off resulting in muddy conditions for over a week.

The lake levels are dropping back into the ‘normal’ range as Duke Energy moves the water through the river system.

We enjoyed some welcome sunshine and blue sky yesterday.

Winter sunrises and sunsets are the most beautiful of all the seasons.

I took this photo of the sunrise several weeks ago with my iPhone when I was out walking the dogs.

The color of the sky and reflections, surreal!

It was chilly yesterday and we were all a little stir-crazy after being indoors after more rain this week. We bundled up in our fur coats :) and enjoyed some chair time with a fire in the fire pit. . .

Your photos of the lake and surrounding areas always give me a peaceful feeling. Lola and Sophie add a cozy touch. My daffodils, hyacinths and roses are blooming here in coastal Virginia. Not sure what will be flowering for Easter. It’s strange to look at my snowman collection on a 70 degree day. Getting ready to move on to spring decor.

Your pups are so sweet, and I agree about the winter sunrises and sunsets! I have scads of photos out my LR windows while drinking my coffee in the mornings, as Mr. P & I ooh and ahh over the changing skies. I’ve also been watching the gauges for [river] water levels in my area and where my daughter lives, always the watchful mother warning her girls when they’re about to drive with potentially high water (and rock slides!, prevalent in our hills and secondary roads). Our weather has been just as crazy. Your grass is greener than ours though, for real, lol.

Wow, Mary! Here in Oklahoma, we just call that Tuesday! (That’s why Will Rogers said that if you don’t like the weather in Oklahoma, just wait a few minutes.) I bet it does seem crazy if you are not used to that. Your photos are beautiful, as usual. Can’t wait for your spring pics and potting shed decor! God Bless, Tina

Beautiful shots Mary! You’re right! We’ve had strange weather this winter. It’s been so rainy with so many storms. Your fire pit pics are adorable with the girls snuggling up together. Glad the lake is receding. All the rivers in our area are so high and flooding is a concern in many areas. Enjoy your Sunday! Clara ♄

Happy Sunday, Mary! We’ve had grey, wet, cold days as well, but not the heavy rain you experienced. Glad you are not in a flood zone! It’s amazing how quickly water rises and moves down stream. We watch the creek behind our home go from dry to furious within torential rains. We sit up high, but during severe storms the creek can juump it’s banks, cross the hike and bike trail, and reach the edge of our property line. Our area is known as Flash Flood Alley!
The fire pit looks like a comfy idea!!!

The weather has certainly been schizophrenic! Had it all but snow here. Just putting in a request to Mother Nature so we can have a dry week to pour our driveway so we can move in!! Beautiful photos. Just love seeing the “sisterly love”!!

Wow. Looking at those pictures sure does remind us of what beautiful gifts God has given us. What a view. What a blessing! Cold here – had a huge snow storm and this weekend was 13 degrees. It is slowly warming up and a lot of snow is beginning to melt. No biggie, it’s been a very mild winter these last couple of years. And I do love winter, so again, no biggie.

Thank you for sharing the beauty.

Thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures, they sure calm me. I just finished putting away the last of the snowmen. It seemed like a bigger job than I anticiipated….I think I am getting OLD:) I love seeing the pups and the one of them loving is so sweet.

What great eye candy! Love the firey sunrises and sunsets, pretty blue skies with the white clouds, serene water, and the picture with the refelection of the branches in your fire pit (?), awesome!! With the addition of the girls, makes it perfect! How fun to snuggle by a fire and take it all in. Thanks for sharing Mary, really beautiful. 4 weeks from this Thursday marks the first day of spring! Yea!
