Happy Monday!
Rod and Rowena are welcoming their favorite season and reason to celebrate. . .
Candy Corn Season!
Candy corn is one of those polarizing seasonal treats that you either love or you hate.
It’s a favorite of Rod and Rowena’s, and neither can keep their bony fingers out of it!

Rowena says candy corn makes the perfect sweet treat to
pair with her favorite tipple, Veuve Cliquot!
Rowena bought Rod a new t-shirt to celebrate their favorite season. . .

And she picked up a new headband for herself, while shopping at T.J. Maxx.

She also recently brought home a new friend to join her skeleton crew family. . .

‘Mr. Bones’ was just hanging out at her favorite haunt, HomeGoods.

He looked lonely and also like a Pottery Barn knock off for a fraction of the price,
so she couldn’t resist him.

There were lots of dog toys for Halloween at HomeGoods so
Bona Lisa and Bone-ita got a treat. . . a skeleton squeaky toy. 💀

Rod and Rowena are celebrating with their favorite cocktail. . .a Skeletini.

Here’s how to shake one up:
Skeletini Ingredients:
💀 1 1/2 ounces vodka of choice (Crystal Head Vodka, preferred)
💀 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
💀 1 1/2 ounces Pomegranate Juice
💀 1 ounce freshly squeezed Lime Juice

Add ingredients to cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake and strain into a martini glass.
Sip carefully and slowly. . .it’s scary good!

Rowena was unable to resist Maggie Lyons chocolate covered marshmallows
staring back at her in candy corn colors at HomeGoods. . .

She mixed candy corn with dry roasted peanuts for a sweet and salty treat!

Fun candy corn facts:
It was love at first taste when Rod and Rowena first tried Candy Corn when it was introduced in 1898!
George Renninger, and employee of the Wunderlee Candy Company,
invented the iconic tricolor candy in the 1880s
and Wunderlee became the first company to produce candy corn.
The Goelitz Candy Company (now Jelly Belly Candy Company) started producing the confection in 1900
and still produces candy corn today using the original recipe, although the method has changed.

When the Goelitz Confectionery Company first produced candy corn,
it was called “Chicken Feed.” The boxes were illustrated with a colorful rooster logo and a tagline:
“Something worth crowing for.”

More than 35 million pounds of candy corn are produced annually.
That equates to nearly 9 billion pieces—enough to circle the moon nearly 21 times if laid end-to-end.

You are so much fun!
Rod, Rowena and the dogs always bring a big smile to my face! Your creativity knows no bounds! Thanks!
I think this is one of my very favorites! LOVE everything you do and create – you are amazing! Your attention to detail is unrivaled! I know these posts are a lot of work – thank you for sharing them with us! :)
I get such a kick out of Rod and Rowena! Your posts are just so clever.
So darn cute! You always amaze me with your creativity and attention to detail.
I am not a fan of Candy Corn but I would love to try that cocktail.
Happy Fall! 🧡🍂🍁🍂🧡
Hi Mary, Rod and Rowena, What a festive post this AM ! All the candy corn colors and skellies put me into the Halloween mood ! When I was younger, I used to like candy corn, but unfortunately now I think it’s too sweet for me. I do, however, have it handy for friends and family who visit during autumn for munching on as well as use it to decorate sugar cookies for Halloween and Thanksgiving. I also have 2 of the popular collectable baskets that are in the shape of candy corn ! So Rod and Rowena would feel at home coming for a visit as well. Happy Autumn to all Hugs, Dorinda
Mary, so glad to see Rod and Rowena out and about! Their personalities come to life with your creativity. I do love candy corn!! It’s such a symbol of fall and of course, Halloween! Can’t wait to try the skeletini!
Thanks for sharing!
I love candy corn and autumn mix. This post is entertaining and I enjoyed learning about the history behind candy corn. Your new little buddy is cute! The table runner is really pretty. Happy Monday! Clara ❤️
You are having too much fun Mary! I am amazed with all the cute candy corn and skeleton things you have found! And that Crystal Head vodka in the skeleton bottle, wow! HomeGoods is a treasure trove and always full of so many temptations…I don’t like to eat candy corn, but I love to decorate with it. I loved reading about it’s history, thanks for sharing all the fun facts! Such a fun post Mary, I’m starting my day with a big smile!

There is no end to Rod and Rowenta’s creative fun, especially this time of year. Thank Rowenta for the candy corn + salted peanuts mix idea—I’ll try it soon. Also the cocktails…
I join Rod and Rowena as a big fan of candy corn. I particularly love it with a salty addition. Rowena found the perfect T for Rod, who looks rather handsome wearing it!
Thank you for the fun on this Monday morning and for the info on candy corn. Obviously, millions love it since it has been around for SO long.
Happy Monday, Mary! 🍂🎃🍂
Rod and Rowena seem to show up during fall so do you know their backstory? I believe your gorgeous tablescapes and gardens attract them to your home every year but why? Might be a fun giveaway to get the best backstory. Always enjoy seeing these 2 popping in for a spell!
Good morning Mary. Rod and Rowena and the pups are so darn cute. You have found some wonderful candy corn additions. I don’t care for candy corn because it is so sweet. Adding salty peanuts is a great idea. The skellies are so fun. Thank you for the history of candy corn. It is always interesting to learn how something was created and when. Happy Autumn and thanks for tickling my funny bone this morning. 💀🎃💀
Dear Rod and Rowena, We’re happy to see you in fine form for another spooky season. Rowena, Dear, you’re absolutely fabulous in your new candy corn headband. You have always had a flare for fashion! We look forward to trying your skeletini! We’d send a photo of our Halloween tea party, but our brains leaked out of our skulls and we can’t figure out how. Send us your email address if you’d like to see us. Love from your tea swilling skeleton friends near the shore of Puget Sound.
OMG…skeletini!!! Looks amazing…can’t wait to try!!!! What a treat and after one I may be doing tricks :) You are incredibly amazing and make each season so much fun — especially halloween!
Thanks to you and Rod and Rowena! You are always a joy in my emails. I am not a fan of candy corn, but love Halloween and your posts!
I loved visiting with Rod and Rowena and meeting the new member, Mr. Bones! Being a candy corn lover and mixing it with peanuts is one of my very favorite Halloween mixes, Mary. The skeletini sounds so good and that vodka bottle is perfect! 💀🎃💀
How clever you are to add the saltiness of peanuts to temper the sweetness of candy corn. I love reading your ideas and seeing your displays. I like candy corn, but I don’t eat it these days because I’m avoiding sugar.
Love it!!! Tell Rod and Rowena that I’ve already been making my way through a rather large bag of candy corn. Solo, no help! Yikes!!! Please tell them that we also share the same taste in champagne. We should party together!
The kids all look super cute in their new tees and toys! I love candy corn, and was really craving it in August, before the groceries had it in stock. I ordered it from Amazon (a 2.5# bag). It was during those days when real feel temps were in the low 100s. It came all melted in big clumps, lol, and my intention was to mix it in with peanuts. Epic fail, but it’s nearly gone, and I’m onto my second bag. That skeletini sounds wonderful. I’ll have to try it with my girlfriends on one of our Skipbo card game nights!
Rod’s new t-shirt is the BEST. Perfect for him!
Mary, I look forward to Rod and Rowena every Halloween season!
My favorite couple is back and having more fun then ever. Love the candy cone theme. They certainly celebrate in style.
Mary, absolutely love the Rod and Rowena posts – such a lovely family and the pups are adorable! I love your wonderful collection of Halloween treasures. Rod looks so handsome in his new tee and the new candy corn headband for Rowena is just perfect. I had no idea that candy corn had been arounds that long. The pups look very pleased with their new toy too. The Skeletini sounds marvelous and thanks so much for all the fun today!!
I love it that you do so many posts for Halloween. Other bloggers jump in to Fall but Halloween is a huge deal in our neighborhood. We had almost 1500 trick-or-treaters last year and I am over the top with Halloween decorating. I love it. Thanks for all the great ideas. Trick-or Treat!
Today’s blog is too cute. Thanks for the candy corn history lesson. I have never liked candy corn but I will buy it for the fall season and keep for Thanksgiving turkey decorated cookies.
I laughed outloud, expecting the crew to be down by the lake, but this is just so much fun. You can almost hear the cackling …grins…nummies there too! Hugs, Sandi
Nothing better than candy corn and dry roasted peanuts!!! Used to be a candy corn hater until I discovered this treat.
Always enjoy the “Skeleton Crew”, especially at Halloween! Love the Jack o’ Lantern table runner….🎃🎃
Rod and Rowena are so much fun! They have been out and about. I saw them recently in the window of Kirklands in southwest Virginia. They were sitting at a table. I love this post and candy corn, too.
Mary, as I read about Hurricane Helene and the possible failure of the dam on Lake Lure, I am keeping you in my prayers that you and your loved ones will be safe and that you will not have damage to your property. I didn’t know where else to post this.
Thank you for thinking of me Chloe. My hubby was just reading about the dam failure on his phone as our internet has been down and I’m using his hot spot to reply. Duke Energy controls our lake level so we’re safe from rising water but parts of the mountains have had 10+ inches of rain in 24 hours from Helene. All that water rushing downhill makes for a very scary scenario with potential mud/landslides too. Keeping everyone in the NC and Tennessee mountains, Georgia and Florida in our thoughts and prayers.♥
Mary are you okay ? Did you evacuate ?
Hi Myna, You’re so sweet to check. We’re good, Lake Norman’s water level never went above full pond, unlike some of the smaller lakes on the Catawba River system. The lake level is already receeding as Duke Energy is sending water down the chain. I feel so badly for those impacted by the flooding and who have lost their homes in western NC.
No one does Halloween like you do, Mary. Rod and Rowena and their pups are just too adorable.
I am too late for the giveaway – someone will be so happy to have won! I am just now catching up on my blog reading – somehow I missed this cute one till tonight. Praying for all those devastated with the flooding – such a horrible thing. Times are tough to be sure. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.
ok i must be tired – i thought there was two giveaways cuz i went back and so i did. Ignore me, please. LOL.
But I didn’t answer your candy corn question (and neat info btw): I don’t eat it but don’t hate it but I have a grand daughter and a son in law who absolutely positively are crazy about it. The irony is my son in law doesn’t ever eat sweets – never cakes or cookies or pies or ice cream or candy. BUT every Halloween he goes nuts about candy corn. I absolutely need to buy that skeleton candy corn in tummy tee for him. He’d LOVE it!!!!
OK i just bought it for him as a fun surprise. Thanks for the inspiration, Mary!
Hi Mary,
I saw your responses to other inquiries, and I”‘m glad you and your family are safe. Looking forward to your next update!
