Fall has finally arrived… for about twenty minutes! 🍁Join me for a weekend waterview from Lake Norman with fiery foliage, watery reflections, dogs by the water, and even a floatplane take off and landing! 🍂✈️🐾

Happy Sunday!
Here’s a weekend waterview from Lake Norman.

We’ve had a beautiful week here, perfect for being outdoors
and enjoying a little chair time, albeit with a foggy start yesterday!

Fall is my favorite season and Autumn is my favorite color . . .
if only it lasted longer!

The leaves have been a little less brilliant this fall due to our dry weather,
but it still gives me a thrill to see the fall foliage and watery reflections.

Here’s a recap of North Carolina’s 12 seasons. . .

It feels like we had 20 minutes of fall, rather than 20 days!

Despite our dry fall, Autumn Blaze Maple is turning its reliable red color.

We had a two blustery days this week, stripping most of the leaves.

I was on the porch when I heard a low flying plane. I quickly
grabbed my camera when I saw it was a floatplane taking off from the water. . .
something we rarely see!

It made a couple of passes, taking off and landing in our cove . . .it had a practically empty lake
so it was perfect timing for flying and floating!

Lola and Sophie agreed it was the perfect weather for some outdoor time . . .

Lola is moments away from taking off and chasing our neighbor’s cat that she spied.

She thinks she’s fast, but she doesn’t stand a chance of getting
near that cat and would be sorry if she did. ;)

In case you missed it, join me a table that reflects the warmth and abundance of fall, featuring an easy DIY Indian Corn Vase and floral centerpiece that comes together in just 30 minutes . . .

The mercury is dipping down into the 20s on Tuesday morning . . .
Goodbye Fall, Hello Winter!

Does it feel like fall, winter or somewhere in between where you are?
🍂🐾🍁🐾
Happy Sunday 🧡

Beautiful pictures! My stepson from San Diego was visiting recently and asked what we do with the leaves once they fall ( he was amazed with how pretty they were as they changed colors)… boy did I have a list for him…I rake them, use them in the garden, rake them, put in compost, rake them…rake them….🤣🍁🍁Peace!
We had a very similar week, weatherwise, and I got similar shots of water appearing like a glass mirror in our neighborhood yesterday! I swear, I think we had those same seasons in 2025 too, and they say snow for us by tomorrow morning, the earliest since 2012. Ugh. But the mulch is down (so are the leaves), and the hoses are put up.
How cool to spot the floatplane on your lake!
Good morning Mary. I love your lake views and particularly reflections of autumn trees! Great shots of the float plane! Our weather has been much like yours with a strong cold front appearing today. Stay warm🧡
We had 20 minutes of fall here also, then back to summer the last few days. Yesterday’s high was 85! Tonight we’re expecting lows in the 30’s and possibly our first frost. Love your photos of the float plane. Enjoy fall while it lasts. We need rain also. RHill, TX
Gorgeous
Breathtakingly beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
I love the changing of the seasons, although in California, we don’t get much, if any, of that!
Beautiful pictures, I loved the moody foggy morning one, of course the fall color ones and the pups on a fall blanket waiting to attack. North Carolina seems to have as many seasons as northern Idaho :) If only fall was the longest season instead of the shortest……..
A floatplane on the lake is fun to see! I remember many years ago in southern Florida, when we were on vacation, there was a floatplane airline. I always thought that would be an exciting flight. We didn’t get to go on one, but I still think it would be a unique experience. The girls are going to need those beautiful white fur coats the next few nights! Those sweet babies will also need a sweater and so will we under our coat! The extreme cold comes in tonight. The high today is in the 40’s, so quite a change from yesterday! Of course, after a couple days, we go back to fall. Your seasonal chart always makes me laugh! It is so accurate! 🤣 I enjoyed the lake shots indeed! Have a good week! Clara❤️
How exciting to see a float plane on your lake! Your maple is gorgeous. Thanks for sharing the beautiful scenery outside your home. It’s such a pleasure to view your pictures and to see the pups, too!
Mary, your lake is always beautiful! We have had a very nice fall in northwest Georgia. But it’s been windy today and the leaves are going fast. They have been so pretty. We have really enjoyed being outside. Going to be about 20 degrees here Monday night I believe so goodbye to the potted plants. Time for pansies! My daughter is a pilot and took some lessons once when we were in Florida on a floatplane. Looks like a very fun thing to do.
Thanks for sharing your water views!
Oh my gosh your photography is absolutely stunning, Mary. I tell ya nearly every single time I am visiting your incredible blog I find myself gasping and pinning. WOW – you have such a talent. I really loved that autumn colored leaves reflection on your beautiful Lake Norman. And I adore how weathered your pair of Adirondack chairs are.
And who doesn’t love your furry girls Sophie and Lola posing in their diva manner? They are certainly comfortable with Mom behind her camera!!! SO I just talked to a dear friend 2 hours east of me in Indiana and my MILK two hours NE of me here in Ohio and it’s snowing in both places. So far no white flakes here but I guess the most beautiful perfect autumn weather is now behind us. What an amazing fall it has been – never lasted this long and been so perfect in all my long years of life. It was the best one of all. So if it snows, that’s ok. I have this past month and a half of perfect weather memories to sustain me. ♥ Thank you for sharing your gorgeous photos.
Hello Sophie and Lola. The girls look great with the Autumn colors behind them. Your lake is dressed in gorgeous colors! Love the reflections.
Autumn is a lovely time of year, and you showcased your Lake so beautifully.
Thanks for sharing the beauty around you!
Mary, I marvel at your water view. The lake looks like glass, and your autumn trees are ever so pretty. We’ve had a bit of cool air roll in again, but by Wednesday it will be moving back up in temperature. Our weather here is most unpredictable. I’m certainly not eager for a freeze. Would rather not deal with all the prep for a freeze that basically could just be overnight. Not that I’m eager for a prolonged freeze or freezing moisture. My make has yet to turn color. My zinnias are still blooming, so between my porch pumpkins and the zinnias and marigolds, I have some fall color. Thanks for giving us a taste of your exceptional water views. The float plane was a bonus!
I’ve gone back to your exquisite table. You inspire with every photo!
These pictures are gorgeous
As always, thank you for sharing
Your maple tree was stunning and the reflections of the Fall colors in Lake Norman are so beautiful. How exciting to see the float plane. Of course Lola and Sophie look so cute on the Fall Afghan. I’m with you Mary, I will be sad to say farewell to Fall. 🍁
absolutely beautiful! love the corn centerpiece, thank you!
Beautiful autumn colors. The maple tree is gorgeous. The water looks like glass. You sweet fur babies are darling.
