Why I Love Using a Food Processor for Baking & Cooking
How do I love thee O Food Processor? . . . let me count the ways:
-
Working in cold butter for scones and streusel topping
-
Blending cold cream cheese for bars and pies
-
Makes short work of nuts and cookies for crusts and desserts
-
Incorporating citrus zest + sugar for flavor boosts
-
Easily mixing doughs that need quick mixing without overworking
- The shredding disc makes quick work of cheese, carrots and other veggies

It saves time, keeps ingredients cold, and creates incredibly consistent results.
Let’s get to the recipes!
🍊 Cakes & Cookies Made Easy in the Food Processor
These recipes rely on the processor to blend, mix, and create the perfect texture with minimal effort.

Whole Orange-Almond Cake
This cake is made for the food processor. Whole oranges are blended right into the batter for incredible flavor and moisture.

Cheese Straws With a Cookie Press
The food processor quickly blends cheese, butter, and flour for the easiest savory treat.

Melt-in-Your-Mouth Snowball Cookies
Perfectly chopped nuts in seconds = bakery-style texture with almost no effort.
🍋 Recipes That Make Short Work of Cream Cheese
Cold cream cheese can be stubborn to mix. You can skip the softening step with your food processor and use cold cream cheese straight from the fridge. These recipes come together incredibly fast thanks to it.

Freezer Lemon Dessert Bars
Creamy, bright, and perfect for summer entertaining! Use your food processor to mix the filling instead of a mixer for less clean up. Wipe out processor bowl with paper towel after mixing graham cracker crust. Add the filling mixture and pulse until combined.

Freezer Lemonade Pie with a Gingersnap Crust
An easy, no-bake dessert where the filling blends effortlessly to pair with a cookie crumb crust.

Pumpkin-Cream Cheese Bars with Sweet Streusel Topping
The processor handles the cookie crust, cream cheese layer and the buttery streusel topping.

🍓 Citrus Sugar & Flavor Boosters
One of my favorite food processor tricks? Making citrus sugar — it instantly elevates baked goods.

Lemon Sugar in Lemon Pistachio Zucchini Bread
Rather than zesting your lemon with a microplane to add to your batter, this method uses the food processor to fully incorporate the oils and flavor from the citrus peel into your sugar. It takes only a minute in your food processor resulting in a fragrant lemony sugar that takes your baked goods over the top.

Strawberry Lemonade Bars
Bright, summery flavor made easy with citrus sugar.

🫐 Scones & Brownies Made Easier
The food processor makes cutting butter into dry ingredients fast and foolproof.

Lemon-Blueberry Cake Mix Scones
Perfect for Mother’s Day, brunch, or teatime.

Irish Cream Scones
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Irish Cream Scones, an irresistible teatime treat.

Apple Cinnamon Scones
A tender, flaky scone, filled with diced apple, spices, and a sweet and crunchy cinnamon topping.

Incredibly Fudgy Zucchini Brownies
The processor quickly shreds zucchini and blends the batter for ultra-moist brownies.
🎄 No-Bake & Holiday Treats
When holiday baking gets busy, the food processor is a lifesaver.

No-Bake Spiced Rum Balls
Quick, easy, and perfect for gifting — the processor does all the mixing.

🌶️ Savory Recipes & Classic Chopping Tasks
Of course, the food processor still shines at the classic jobs too.

Quick & Easy Freezer Hot Pepper Jelly
No canning required — chopping peppers takes seconds.

Easy Homemade Basil Pesto
Summer in a jar! The easiest way to turn fresh basil into something delicious.

Tips for Getting the Most From Your Food Processor

Can you mix cream cheese in a food processor?
Absolutely — and it’s one of my favorite tricks.
A food processor makes quick work of blending cold cream cheese into fillings and batters without needing to soften it first. It’s especially helpful for bars, pies, and no-bake desserts.
Can you shred vegetables in a food processor?
Yes. Most food processors include a shredding disc that makes fast work of vegetables like zucchini, carrots, and cheese. It’s perfect for recipes like zucchini brownies, salads, and casseroles.
What size food processor is best for home cooking?
A 12–14 cup food processor is the most versatile size for everyday cooking and baking. It’s large enough for doughs and batters but still practical for chopping vegetables and making sauces.
Is a food processor better than a blender?
They serve different purposes.
A blender is best for liquids like smoothies and soups, while a food processor excels at chopping, mixing, shredding, and making doughs and thicker mixtures.
Can you make pesto in a food processor?
Yes — and it’s one of the easiest and most popular uses. A food processor quickly blends basil, garlic, nuts, cheese, and olive oil into fresh homemade pesto in minutes.
What should you not put in a food processor?
Avoid:
-
Very hot liquids
-
Bones

Large frozen foods without thawing slightly

Hello Mary. I’ve been using a food processor since the mid 80’s for a good portion of my baking. I just love my food processor and will grab that first to use even before my kitchen aid mixer. Thank you for even more recipes to try.
