Summer Whites on the Porch

We spent this past weekend visiting with family from out-of-town, enjoying their company and the water~ trying to escape the heat. While the calendar says the first day of summer is tomorrow, we have had temperatures 10 – 15 degrees higher than normal for a month now. . .

I dressed my porch in Summer Whites. . . I’m hoping that surrounded by a sea of white (or lake of white :-)  I’ll be cooler and might forget that the heat index is off the charts~

. . .it’s not working. . .

I have some books to read to help take my mind off of the heat ~ with pictures of relaxing, cool porches. . .

This section of the porch does have shade and a little bit of a breeze to enjoy as long as the humidity is not 90% . . .

I moved a few architectural items from inside to the porch. . . a favorite pair of weathered corbels, that I like to imagine came from a large old house~ in an era where there was no air conditioning. . .and a favorite birdhouse, new made to look old, with its rusted tin roof & finial.

A trio of chippy spindles~ repurposed as candleholders~

And a single corbel with most of its white paint missing~

 White tray & carafe~ Target

 Glasses & Napkins~ Pier 1

White Plates~ Lennox Butterfly Meadow Cloud~ HomeGoods

Hope you are staying cool where you are~

Well, somehow my comment got posted on your post about your bicycle (ugh~computers!). Don’t ask me how that happened.
Anhooow, I just wanted to tell you what a lovely porch you have! I LOVE the urn filled with the rocks and nest with eggs. That’s right up my alley. Love all the chippy painted goodies, too!

What a wonderful place to sit and visit or read! Hope the weather cooperates a bit more for your enjoyment. The Queen Anne’s lace is simple old fashioned elegance.

I LOVE the adirondack style chair and the wonderful architectural pieces…love, love them! I am blog hopping from White Wednesday, and so glad that I did! The header says, ‘Lake Life’ so that drew me in! As I read, I wondered what lake it was, because it looked a bit familiar…checked your profile and see that you are just up the road! We live in Rock Hill on Lake Wylie! After two months of blogging, I am surprised that I haven’t come across anyone from this area yet! Nice to ‘meet’ ya’! Just posted a back porch at! Stay cool…so hard isn’t it?!!

I do hope you are enjoying some summer breezes. I could sit and relax on that porch setting all afternoon. The Lenox butterfly plates are so sweet with their little scalloped edges and simply embossed designs. You sure do know how to create inviting spaces, Mary. I think I’ll just stay awhile and sip some of the lemon ice water while I settle into that comfy chair. ~ Sarah

I can see that I’m going to have to become a follower somehow, so that I don’t miss anymore of these posts. I love the red roof, the red swing, the red chairs – and if you read my blog you’ll know I just recently gave up my red kitchen, but had to keep a little bit of red to comfort me!

  21. July 29, 2010 at 10:33 am

Your post is delightful as are your photos. Good work all around.

  22. July 29, 2010 at 11:01 am

Beautiful, beautiful setting…looks likes like a nice place to enjoy an ice cold beverage.

  23. July 29, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Desert girl that I am, I can’t even imagine 90% humidity! I feel like it is awful at 20%. This is such a lovely spot. I love everything about it – the pillows, the plants, the furniture… The whites make it look so comfortable. It is hard to believe looking at those refreshing glasses with lemon that it is miserable. I hope it cools down soon so you can really enjoy it.

I love white and you really made it work on your porch! It is lovely! Love every photo! We had some above normal temps for a while and two heat waves but it has been closer to normal lately. I really don”t enjoy a very hot humid summer.

    A delight stopping by!
