I’ve been doing a little winter nesting this month and set a cozy table for two by our Winter Nesting Tree.
Our winter nesting tree was inspired by our recent snowfall and an excuse to extend the *twinkle* season! I always feel a little blue after the tree comes down and the glow of the Christmas lights are gone.
I decided to decorate the tree to enjoy for the month of January with sparkling snowflakes, icy branches and pine cones, nesting birds and glittery bird nests. You can see more of the ornaments and the tree, HERE.
Snow bird salad plates are layered on winter white plates and pewter-finish silver chargers, set at a table set by the glow of the tree.
A plaid throw provides a cozy tablecloth for a cold winter day. . .
Hammered flatware adds a faceted soft shimmer. . .
Birds are nesting in bowls with sprigs of greenery and a snowy layer of epsom salts.
A bird-topped tiered server, holds an assortment of snowy pine cones, snowflake ornaments, mercury glass votives and trees, for a centerpiece with some sparkle and shimmer.
A little sparkle and shine is a welcome addition for a gray and dreary January day!
I added an additional sprinkle of epsom salts in the tray of the centerpiece and in the base of the votive holders. I was looking for regular epsom salts but found a bag of Dr. Teal’s Epsom Salt Soaking Solution at my grocery store. Dr. Teal’s came in fragrances, Eucalyptus-Spearmint and Lavender. I picked up the Eucalyptus-Spearmint which added some unexpected and welcome aromatherapy to help beat the winter blues too!

Lovely! I am so happy that I am not alone in keeping my tree up.January in Ohio can be quite bleak. I love to come home from work and have my glowing tree to enjoy.

So pretty! Love the idea of epsom salts infused with fragrance. My recipe for winter blahs? Pretty much hibernation, but I do get out and walk each day unless is raining.
I haven’t taken my tree down yet … maybe I’ll leave it and add more birds!!!! Happy New Year!!!!!
You really made me smile this morning- Epsom salt!! I haven’t heard anyone mention them since I was a child. I recently sprained my ankle and thought of how my Gram was a great believer in the power of Epsom salt. I must look for Dr. Teal’s Eucalyptus-Spearmint right away. Your Winter Nesting Table is the perfect accompaniment to the tree! The plaid throw on the table and the hammered flatware are such lovely additions to the tablescape. I love the centerpiece with all the different elements and Epsom salt snow. Just wondering if the salt will cause any damage to metal? Thank you Ellen! Yes, the salt would eventually cause a metal surface to pit. I wouldn’t use it on a precious sterling or silver plate finish but this gray server has a distressed finish and I didn’t leave the salt there longer than overnight. ;)
You always start my day off with a smile. I LOVE the bird tree❤. I think you need to do a post on how and where you store all these wonderful treasures AND what you take to remember where you got them. Your post is my very favorite!
For a while I was able to buy hat boxes very inexpensively to store “special ornaments” Now I buy decorative photo boxes from Michaels. I also buy 16 qt clear boxes with lids from Big Lots for not only Christmas but my floral supplies.

I use Dr. Teal’s Epsom salts frequently in a bath and hope to find the one you used. Lovely twinkling and welcomed on this gray dreary day.
What a sparkling, cozy table for two by your twinkling tree, Mary. Adding cheer to January sure helps the doldrums. I have some Epsom salts by my bathtub and use it regularly for soaking. Now I’ll have to use some for decorating!
How beautiful and cozy! I miss the glow of my tree, especially this dark and foggy morning in SC. I thought I was the only one to feel a little bleak when Christmas is put away. You will be amazed what Epsom salts will do for your shrubbery! My boxwoods, hollies, azaleas and camellias greened up immediately last spring after one dose. You can’t overdose them, and it is a very cheap treatment!

I use epsom salts for artificial snow. I will look for the scented ones. I’m rethinking my idea of decorating with mercury glass. I love twinkling and bling, especially in the bleak winter.

I love your idea for a twinkle tree! I also like the close up pictures of the different elements, but I really wish just once, that the entire table and tree could be seen 6′ or so away to give us an idea of the size/relationship to other things in the room! It is really hard for me to get the ‘full picture’ unless it is shown. I hope you will consider doing this. Thanks.

Mary, your sparkle and twinkle make me wish our tree was still up. The table is a perfect way to end a cold winter day. This makes a romantic setting for two. Pure joy…thisis the truly making the best of the winter snowy months!! I did not know that Epsom salts came scented. That has to make for a very soothing soak as well as a nice touch to the ambiance of your table.

Your table settings are always so pretty, so inviting and I think presentation makes a world of difference even if having a bowl of soup with a grilled cheese sandwich on a cold winter day. I wonder though, where do you store all of your different plates and accessories?

I help my pastor’s wife decorate our church for the seasons. After New Years, we put all of the Christmas decor away and bring in Winter with silver, white and colbalt blue touches. It makes the sanctuary so inviting.
Mary, I just adore your idea of a twinkle tree so I’m saving that idea for next year. Right now the house looks so bare (and cold) after putting away the Christmas decorations. And those snowy bird plates are so pretty!

You posted a pretty in pink Romantic table setting in another post.. just wanted to say, I find this one more do, because it appeals to the masculine as well as feminine, and the child in all of us … and blind sparkle fireworks lights and love in this table setting. Love it. And I’ve asked 5 different men.. what romantic setting they oreferred. All loved thus one. Either way.. you rule♡
