Happy Monday, I hope your new year is off to a great start! As it’s the first Monday of the month, I’m joining my blogging friends for some flower therapy and Monday Morning Blooms.
You can find my friends’ links to their floral inspiration at the bottom of this post.
For our first Monday Morning Blooms in January, our common theme was ‘Winter White’.
For a winter white arrangement, I started with an orchid I received in December. I love orchids as the blooms last 2 – 3 months. For a container, I used a favorite white tureen (which has never served up soup, only flowers ;). I placed the orchid pot inside the tureen and adding some plastic bags to keep it centered and provide support for some filler for the arrangement. . . pine cones and a bird nest.
Sprigs of evergreens were added along the edge of the tureen followed by a dusting of faux snow. A bird flew in for a little winter nesting in the arrangement for a finishing touch.
I use the ‘ice cube method’ to water my orchid once a week, removing the pine cones, adding three ice cubes to the orchid, allowing them to melt.
Join me at the table for a little winter nesting. . .
A faux fur throw provides cozy winter layer and tablecloth. The throw appears gray in some of the photographs but it’s actually more oyster in color.
Bird dishes flew in to land on snowflake embossed dinner plates. . .
Snowflake napkin rings add some sparkle and shimmer, along with mercury glass votives and glittering bird nests.
Twig flatware lends a woodland note to the table. . .
And more bird ornaments are perched on nests on the table.
The table is set for cozy dining in front of our Winter Nesting Tree, an excuse to extend the *twinkle* season after Christmas, when it’s cold and gray outside.
The tree is decorated for the months of January and February with sparkling snowflakes, icy branches and pine cones, bird ornaments and glittery bird nests.
I hope to share photos of the tree this week when I have more light to photograph it.

Hi Mary, a beautiful table….love the white but everything still looks dull when all of Christmas is put away! My corner cabinet is bare right now trying to figure out what to put in it…thought about some spring but I don’t want to be tired of spring before it’s even here!! I’ll keep looking!!
Mary
Thanks for such a beautiful post this morning. I get the blahs when Christmas time comes to an end. You made my morning so bright and cheery…….
Have a great Monday 😊
So gorgeous Mary! I love this Monday Morning Blooms series and what a wonderful way to dress up a simple orchid for an arrangement. I would love to sit at your table with and enjoy the twinkling lights of the tree! I look forward to seeing more photos of it, Happy Monday! Kathy P
You always start my day with a smile Mary!….the table and Winter White orchid arrangement defines Sublime! Each detail is as beautiful as the next. Those bird dishes are among my favorites. My Sweetie would love this table as she is such a bird lover (a member of the Audubon Society and a volunteer at the local bird sanctuary. I am a bird lover too…I love how you mixed the more casual napkin with the elegant napkin ring. You truly have a gift!…I so look forward to seeing your beautiful Winter Nesting tree!….As always, such a pleasure joining you for flower inspiration!!! Have a great week and Happy New Year!
I agree with Melinda that your flower arrangement is indeed magical. My next orchid will be in my white soup tureen with pine and evergreen and the faux snow. Winter Wonderland fits.
Mary, I would love to nest around this beautiful setting. It is so gorgeous and cozy. I love orchids for many reasons, and their longevity is a major plus. I love the bird plates paired with the snowflake ones with your twig flatware and sparkling napkin rings. Your faux furry throw might be a mate to mine 😊 I can’t wait to see more of your nesting tree. It is always a pleasure to share flowers and tables with you at Monday Morning Blooms!
Just beautiful Mary! Your tureen arrangement is gorgeous in it’s silver sparkle! My favorite part of your pretty table are the snowflake napkin rings, I can’t believe you found those at Target! I must remember the ice cube method, I killed the last orchid I had with water. Thank you for giving us a fresh new start for 2020!

Your winter white with the sparkle and twinkle is simply stunning, Mary! Your orchid was such a beautiful gift for you and looks so pretty in the non soup tureen with the added embellishments. Im sure your birdie filled tree adds joy to January. ❤️
Mary, what a beautiful, fresh table! After all the color of Christmas this is so restful. Love the idea of extending the time for your tree. Since I just use small birds and white lights on mine, I might just leave it up a bit longer!
Thanks for brightening our days!
I have never even thought of using orchids as the thriller in a flower arrangement. It’s beautiful. I saw this report on tv about a table-scape competition and all I could think of was you. You are the winner in my mind!
Ahh, the clean, serene look of winter white, just beautiful. I love those small plates with the birds perched on them by Gracie, I am always on the look out for them at T J Maxx or Home Goods when I am in their stores, but to no avail yet. Love the sparkle on the birds and the pretty cyrstal snowflake napkin ring. Very cozy and warm nestled in by the tree. Snuggle on!
Mary that’s so pretty! Does it forecast tomorrow’s weather we are predicted to receive? We shall see. I love faux fur throws and have two that I just love using in winter, and on tables, too. Your tablescapr and winter tree are truly good therapy for winter doldrums. Love the birds and snowflake ornaments. The orchid arrangement is beautiful.
Every single thing you do is amazing. You really have a gift. LOVE the table and the arrangement. Winter whites are SO pretty to me. The added sparkle is wonderful. Have a beautiful week, Mary.
Lots of lovely bits of sparkle to keep the seasonal spirit alive. I’m staring at my empty buffet—and wondering what can I do for winter fun—that’s different without buying a thing. Most often I have a large arrangement of ivy during the in=between seasons, but now I’m thinking just white….thanks for more inspiration!
Mary, our tree is still up and decorated, but plan to take it down tomorrow. Everything is in slow mo there this season! Your winter tree sparkles and delights. I’d love to see some close up photos. I have a Christmas orchid that is still beautiufl as ever, and my Christmas arrangement is one it’s fourth transformation. A friend sent us beautiful flowers shortly before Christmas. I rearranged them in a low vase for Christmas Eve dinner. When I was setting the table for New Year’s I discarded the spent red and pink flowers and added in more white. We had a lovely white and green New Year’s Eve centerpiece. With house guests arriving on Friday, I pulled out all the spent flowers and refreshe with yet more new blooms. Amazing how I’ve stretched the original arrangement’s bare bones of fresh greens. Thanks for sharing your beautiful decor.
Beautiful sparkling white winter table….filled with nature…I just love it as always. Plus I always learn from you…I did not know the orchid watering trick with ice cubes….thank you Mary! Happy New Year!
Oh Mary, how lovely this table is! I can almost feel the chill. You have incorporated so many beautiful bird elements and of course the twig flatware is the perfect complement! Pinning and sharing on Facebook!!
Gorgeous! I just love how you captured all the beautiful lighting that enhanced the gorgeous florals and table. I love orchids too. I have never tried to have them bloom again, but I always hate throwing them out. Thanks for making the world a more beautiful place!
Mary, what a beautiful beautiful table and arrangement! Oh, so delightful to sit there in your winter white wonderland. It’s always such a joy to share our Monday Morning Blooms, friend. I water my orchids with ice cubes too…it’s the perfect way, isn’t it? xo Happy January, Mary.
I love the green, white and gold, and the furry tablecloth. Is that chenille? I also liked your snowy cabin tablescape and birdhouse tablescape from years past. Your tablescapes are elegant and interesting; a hard combo to achieve.
You have created a magical winter table scape!
I would like to know how you store your collections when they are not in season?
Thank you,
