I love using natural elements as a centerpiece for the table.

Our Thanksgiving feast is traditionally served buffet-style on the kitchen island.

As we don’t need room on the table for platters of food,

there is plenty of room for a centerpiece!

I used a favorite and easy method for creating a table centerpiece / table runner. I gathered some pumpkins, Indian corn, magnolia pods, nuts and dried maiden grass plumes to add a soft note.

There are no rules other than keeping your elements low enough to see over

so as not interfere with conversation while dining and arranging your elements

so they’re pleasing to the eye.

It’s also very affordable when using natural material from your yard, such as grasses and magnolia pods, paired with Indian corn, pumpkins and nuts from the farmers market or grocery store.

can be added to your table runner, as seen, HERE, or make a simple centerpiece

I set a table on the porch and we’re enjoying some beautiful fall weather this week, with sunny skies and highs in the 70s. We’re fortunate that our weather in November is typically mild in North Carolina, even on Thanksgiving day.

Breaking away from the traditional warm harvest shades associated with Thanksgiving, I used a tablecloth singing the softer notes of fall, with beiges, blues and sage green. I purchased it at HomeGoods last year not knowing how I would use it, but it was affordably priced and thought it make a pretty foundation for a fall table.

A little table serendity as it turns out, as the blue pairs with clouds on the background of

Royal Stafford Thanksgiving Turkey Plates, and coordinated with the acorn and oak leaf border.

Bone-handled flatware adds a warm texure to the table, along with willow chargers,

which frame white scalloped charger plates.

Napkin rings are ready for family to gather at the table, marrying print and herringbone-fringed napkins.

You ALWAYS have lovely or fun table settings, perfectly executed. Your natural center table runner of nuts and pods is the most original, cool idea you’ve ever had.

Mary I love he soft hues your tablecloth brings to the table, (so to speak.) It is the perfect backdrop to your lovely Royal Stafford turkey plates. I also like the way you organized natural elements as a centerpiece down the center of your table and I also like the lake view from your porch. How lovely to sit and bask in the Carolina sunshine on Thanksgiving Day with all your family and friends. thanks for your always lovely contributions to these blog hops.

Mary, I love the soft colors in your fall leaves tablecloth! The beiges, blues, and sage green provide a lovely foundation for your natural elements centerpiece. The textures of the magnolia pods, nuts, indian corn and dried maiden grass plumes topped with assorted sizes of pumpkins make an attractive centerpiece. Royal Stafford turkey plates with the touch of blue are perfect atop the rattan and white charters. You do texture so well. The amber glasses, bone-handled flatware, and print napkins complete your look beautifully. The more I look at the Royal Stafford plates I see new charming details.
I enjoyed your table and my favorite pic is looking the length of the table and seeing the fall color of the trees slightly blurred in the background. The light is delightful and the warm glow of the amber goblets are lovely.
Happy Thanksgiving! I missed the fall hop very much. We were out of the country celebrating our anniversary.

Mary, your table is beautifully set for a lovely Thanksgiving celebration. I love the paring of your tom turkey plates with the tablecloth!! It picks up the soft blues and browns so perfectly. Your use of the maiden grass adds another layer of softness to this fabulous table. So pretty!!! 🧡💙I am thankful to have this opportunity to hop with you!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

I think it’s amazing how a tablecloth can evolve into an entirely unique look for Thanksgiving, which we most often associate with browns, golds, oranges and bits of green. The blue is definitely a colorway that creates the softer side, and I love it. The amber goblets are like little rays of sun going down the table, meeting up with their source outside. That’s gorgeous! Those maiden grass plumes work so well to send the message of soft. Wonderful table, Mary, and it looks so inviting as you look out onto the lakeside. I have to admit that gathering naturals again is something I look forward to, at least for decor. ;) Thank you for always bringing consistent style to the table. It’s a treat to take in all the details.

  7. November 9, 2021 at 7:24 am

Very pretty Mary, I love the blue in the turkey plates, it really pops:@)

I like to use the softer tones in my dining room as well and really appreciate the unique ideas you’ve shared here. The blues are so pretty. I might have to go hunting in my neighbors yard for her magnolia pods! The maiden grass plumes are another great idea. Thanks for showing a print napkin on a print tablecloth -I always struggle with this concept but you make it work perfectly. Another lovely table!

  9. November 9, 2021 at 7:46 am

Mary, I love the softer side of Thanksgiving table with the beautiful tablecloth providing the inspiration! Your centerpiece runner is a perfect complement for the softer colors. Royal Stafford turkey plates with the blue sky blend so perfectly with the cloth. I also have the turkey plates and will use them for Thanksgiving.

It is always a pleasure to pull up a chair at one of your gorgeous tables! Happy Tuesday!

  10. November 9, 2021 at 8:03 am

Your amber glasses and centerpiece are the star of this show! The glassware just sparkles in the table. I like how you used so many natural elements in the center – perfect for the season! Enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Mary, I cannot believe how perfectly those plates match your tablecloth. They look like they were made for each other! That flatware is exceptional. I may have to look into that (despite the fact that I really do not need another set of flatware). It looks like a lovely Thanksgiving. I hope that you get to enjoy it on your porch with your family. Fondly, Alma.

  15. November 9, 2021 at 8:47 am

I’m loving your softer side of Thanksgiving, Mary, with that pretty tablecloth, snd your Tom Turkey plates. The easy, low centerpiece with the soft colors is perfect!

  16. November 9, 2021 at 8:50 am

Your soft color palette is lovely Mary, the touch of blue from the tablecloth picked up with the beautiful turkey plates is wonderful. The center runner of white pumpkins and natural elements is so pretty and thrifty too! The bone handled flatware and willow chargers are perfect with all the other natural elements and feel of your table. The gold goblets really bring it all together with a gorgeous pop of color and warmth~a feast for the eyes!

The maiden grass plume! I LOVE that to soften the look! It’s so beautiful as it dances in the wind outside. Why not bring it in to create a little understated drama on the table!? The tablecloth is beautiful and a perfect departure from the deeper colors we often associate with Thanksgiving. You are so blessed to be able to actually eat outdoors on Thanksgiving. Missouri is not so forgiving when it comes to late November temperatures! I absolutely love your bone-handled flatware! The color variation is magnificent, and it’s one of those looks that just makes a person want to study the pattern since no piece is exactly the same. Or maybe that’s just weird little ol’ me!😁 Thank you for sharing your soft and pretty Thanksgiving tablescape with us, and I hope you enjoy the day and the season with your family!

Love the maiden hair. I have used it in flower arrangements but find after a day or so, it starts to shed. Do you spray yours with something to maintain the plumes? Thank you….

    • November 9, 2021 at 10:18 am

Hi Linda, I give the Maiden Grass a spritz of hair spray to keep them from shedding after they open. :)

  19. November 9, 2021 at 10:30 am

Mary, I can appreciate the softer side of Thanksgiving, especially when done so beautifully! The tablecloth and plates really are a perfect match. The budget friendly centerpiece allows the rest of the table to shine, while still drawing your eye into the middle of the table.
As always, this table is another delightful master piece!

  20. November 9, 2021 at 10:46 am

Mary, your table is fabulous. You have nailed it with the softer side of Thanksgiving. Starting with your gorgeous tablecloth, the blues and brown are so pretty. Using natural elements makes so much sense. Love your Bone-handled flatware! The willow chargers add such a nice rustic touch. it’s always fun to change things up every year. Love the Royal Stafford plates. The tom turkeys are fabulous. Nice tip about the Maiden Grass. How fortunate you are to enjoy lovely weather even at Thanksgiving. Always a pleasure to visit and see your fabulous tablescapes. Wishing you and yours a blessed Thanksgiving.

  21. November 9, 2021 at 10:48 am

Thank you Mary For making a gorgeous table with natural elements that we all can easily get. It is simple but oh so elegant! I love it!
The soft colors along with your Royal Stamford Turkey dishes makes for a beautiful day around your table.
    Thank you for the inspiration!
    Happy Tuesday my friend!

  22. November 9, 2021 at 10:59 am

Mary, your tables are always inviting and full of inspiration. Of course, I love the turkey plates and natural elements. Thanks to you, our table is set for two with delightful turkey plates. Thank you, again, my friend!
I like natural elements for our table, so I may need to search out the bone handled flatware. Even if I just had two place settings!
One of my favorite detail to bring out in autumn and winter is my group of horn votives. Gumps sold these years ago, and I’m happy I ordered a set because I use them every year from October to February.
    Happy Thanksgiving, Mary!

  23. November 9, 2021 at 12:03 pm

Your tablescape is stunning. Your talent is so unlimited. Wishing you, your family and four-legged children a very Happy Thanksgiving.

  24. November 9, 2021 at 12:36 pm

Mary, I love the serene but warm and welcoming color scheme of your table! That beautiful tablecloth print perfectly compliments your turkey plates — bringing out the blues (as you know this was the first year I used blue for a Thanksgiving table). You have such a great eye for styling settings; mixing colors, patterns and textures! Especially love those willow placemats which pair perfectly with the natural beauty of the elements composing the table length centerpiece. Wishing you a most wonderful Thanksgiving!

Such a charming table to share for Thanksgiving. The tablecloth is pretty and I’m sure that you will think of dozens of ways of using it. I love the rhythm of shapes, textures and colors in your centerpiece as it courses down the table. And that your chargers seem a natural pairing with it. The jolt of amber in your glassware adds excitement! Happy Thanksgiving!

  28. November 9, 2021 at 6:55 pm

Looked at all the tables and while they are all beautiful, different and well thought out, I still make my way back to you!!! I guess maybe I’m prejudice!! I have gotten most if not all, my ideas for my table from you and I thank you! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

  29. November 9, 2021 at 7:21 pm

Mary, I was so happy to see such a tranquil use of colors for your Thanksgiving table. The blues, browns and cream are such a beautiful combination. Soft and subtle and whispers natural beauty. I always admired and wished to collect the Royal Stafford dinnerware. Such an exquisite classic. I love how you topped it off with natural elements for a runner and the warm pop of amber color with your stemware. As always…..such a gorgeous and elegant tablescape for Thanksgiving.

I noticed in your round-up post that you have created some beautiful runners using natural elements. I love all of them, but I think I love this one best because of the maiden grass you used. It is so pretty! I also love the blues in your table linens because they compliment your amber pieces nicely. Beautiful table as always, Mary!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

Mary, I love your tablecloth paired with your dishes. The soft blue in the material really brings out the blue in the plates. Your napkins and napkin rings are beautiful. The centerpiece is so pretty with the soft cream pumpkins and other natural elements. Enjoy your day! Clara❤️

Oh my, those recipes! I’d like to make the pumpkin butter as gifts for my coworkers and then the pumpkin loaf for dessert on my Thanksgiving table.

A favorite Thanksgiving tradition is my mother’s jello mold. She’s been gone many years, but my brother and I reenact for our family her remembering when the meal was half over, “Oh no! The mold!!” How I miss her.

I have a love for beautiful dishes and that Tom plate is divine!

  35. November 11, 2021 at 9:10 am

Mary, the pattern and colors of the tablecloth really sets the theme for your table. I love how the touch of blue in the tablecloth is repeated on the plates. The centerpiece is simple but impactful. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Mary, Your table is lovely, of which I would have no doubt it would be! That tablecloth is so pretty, I love the soft blues and how they highlight the blue clouds on the turkey plates. I have the same plates and was curious about the different labels on the bottom of them, also. The centerpiece of natural elements is just right for the table, and so nice that it carries the theme down the table like it does. The centerpiece really does carry through that “softer” look. I am off to see if I can find some amber stemware like you have, that is one thing I have been hunting down for awhile now and yet to find what I like at a price I like. I hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving and enjoy gathering with family or friends for the holiday.

  38. November 12, 2021 at 2:39 pm

Mary, I adore the soft blues and natural elements on your Thanksgiving table. That tablecloth and the Royal Staffordshire turkey plates were just meant to be paired together! I always love to see acorn motifs on china and linens. The setting looks so inviting on your porch with the lake in the background. It’s always fun to hop with you. Happy Thanksgiving!
