Weekend Waterview: Boating with Dogs on Lake Norman + Wildlife Adventures

Here’s a weekend waterview from Lake Norman.

If you don’t know us, we’re Lola and Sophie and

we volunteered to be guest bloggers today. 🐾🐾

We’re guest hosting for our mom, as she’s been busy with a few other projects.

We were excited to be able to go for a couple of boat rides this week!

Our weather was ideal for boating, with temps in the mid-70s and low humidity.

Our mom says she’s still waiting for sweater weather and wishes it was about 20 degrees cooler,

but we were very comfortable in our fur coats with the breeze generated by the boat.

It’s been a while since we’ve boated as our pontoon was out of commission, needing repair . . .

Our dad went out to start it and discovered these wires hanging loose.

He said a few bad words when he realized who the culprit was . . .

Apparently tree living is overrated when you can have a waterview and covered dock.

Our mom had seen this squirrel running down the dock and went to investigate.

Mrs. Squirrel had been busy building a cozy nest between the deck of the boat and one of the pontoons.

Our dad put a trap out to remove her and keep her off the boat . . .

as you might have guessed, he was a week or so too late.

This is the second time a squirrel has stowed away on our boat, the first time,

using the wiring harness to sharpen and file his or her teeth.

It’s never a dull moment with wildlife around.

Our mom says you constantly have to be on the look out for squatters,

like these Osprey nesting on this poor boat.

Osprey typically use the same nest site year after year, so this boat owner created a deterrent

to keep them from building a nest the following year. . .

  best practical and creative use of pool noodles and tomato cages!

You never know what will try to take up residence if you’re not paying attention or out-of-town.

Our dad had to persuade these geese to move along and find another a nesting site.

He hates geese more than he hates squirrels, and that’s saying something!

We had the lake almost all to ourselves this week,

except for the occasional fisherman or jet ski.

We love admiring the beautiful homes by the water . . .

Our mom says she would have to have staff to maintain and clean a home this big . . .

On the plus side, she would have plenty of dish storage. ;)

We don’t have much fall color yet, just a few pockets of red from the maples beginning to turn.

Our leaves typically peak the first week in November, but it’s been so dry, they’re more likely to fall off the trees before they turn color.
