Southern Bouquets, Part II

Part II

I have more photos than would load easily in one post, so this Edible Review has two parts. If  you can found yourself here without seeing part one of this review, look here.

Varieties of Zinnias were my food cues for Food for Thought with this book . . .

With ‘Profusion’ Zinnia for inspiration ~ I thought I’d share a tasty and easy summer dessert~

Profusion of Fruit Pizza~ a chocolate chip cookie crust with a cream cheese layer (1/4 cup sugar to 1 – 8 oz. block of cream cheese) and the fruit of your choice. I always use pineapple tidbits if I am using banana so I have pineapple juice to soak the banana slices in, to prevent them from turning brown. I’ve also used 1/3 less fat cream cheese & fat-free cream cheese, depending on how calorie or fat gram conscious we are at the time.

I made this for my nephews by request when they came to visit:-) The original recipe called for sugar cookie dough, but we like the chocolate chip. It also called for a glaze of orange marmalade mixed with a bit of water to “paint” onto the fruit, but we like ours without it.

“With their long stalks, vivid colors, and compact heads, zinnias are dream flowers for simple bouquets. Just collect a rainbow and place them sparingly in containers (you can see the blooms better when you vary the height and split the dense harvest into multiple containers).”

“Southern Bouquets showcases these arrangements–large or small, humble or sophisticated–with sumptuous, inspiring photography in sometimes breathtaking, sometimes cozy, but always quintessential Southern settings.”

Be sure to visit Food for Thought to see what everyone is reading & eating!

Fruit pizza is the best dessert ever! People in my house eat slices as big as pizza slices….for breakfast!

Zinnias are a summer favorite here for sure, and all those delightful fruits and berries lined up like little soldiers on the pizza look like the perfect summer dessert. ~ Sarah
