Easy Witch’s Potion Popcorn: No Cauldron Required!

The witching hour is approaching, Halloween is 23 days away!

halloween-countdown-107

Time to practice your potions and prepare to scare up some Halloween treats!

This Witch’s Potion Popcorn Mix is quick and easy to spell and so irresistible, you won’t be able to keep your bony fingers out of it <|:>)

More of a procedure than a recipe, this sweet and salty treat combines popcorn with candy coating or almond bark, along with pretzels, nuts and candy. You can vary your potion to your taste, changing the candy, sprinkles and quantities of ingredients.

Best of all, no cauldron required!

I had a little inspiration for this Witch’s popcorn from a package of Utz Halloween bat and pumpkin-shaped pretzels. I found them at World Market and saw them recently at Target. This package I found is individual snack size bags, ideal for trick-or-treaters.

Here are the popcorn potion ingredients required for this sweet and salty treat, enough to feed your whole coven <|:>)

Brains of Cawing Ravens, aka, Popcorn (approximately 6 cups popped)

Maw of Shark, aka, Vanilla Almond Bark, 16 oz. package (substitute white chocolate chips or candy melts if you prefer)

Witches Blend, aka, Utz Halloween Pretzel Bats & Pumpkins or pretzels of choice

Scale of Dragon, aka, salted nuts, 16 oz. can (more or less to taste)

Toe of Frog, aka candy corn (or candy of choice)

Root of Hemlock, aka, orange and black sprinkles/nonpareils

Eye of Newt, aka, Wilton Candy Eyeballs

dsc_3058-001

Pop your corn using your preferred method and mix with your candy coating. I use a ratio of 6 cups of popcorn per 16 ounce package of candy coating/ almond bark. Adjust your candy coating-to-popcorn ratio to your taste.

You can find almond bark on the baking aisle near the chocolate. I like the CandiQuik brand if I can find it for the convenience of the disposable microwave tray, but I’ve used other brands of almond bark that work just as well.

Melt candy coating according to the package directions, microwaving for one minute, then stirring and repeating in 15 second increments until melted. Mix your melted candy coating with your popcorn in a large bowl, stirring until coated, then spread popcorn on wax paper or parchment lined baking sheet(s) to cool and set.

dsc_3161-001

Sprinkle some Halloween orange and black nonpareils onto your popcorn while the coating is still warm.

dsc_3065-001

Once your popcorn is set (about 10 – 15 minutes), break into pieces.  Add your other potion ingredients to your coated popcorn~ nuts, pretzels, and candy of choice. Stir in a pinch of Spider Blend and sprinkle some Eye of Newt, if you dare. . .

dsc_3165-001

Store it in an airtight container until you’re ready to dive in!  I’ve made a variation of this popcorn mix for every holiday~ Christmas, Thanksgiving, July 4th, Easter, and Valentine’s Day.  If you want to make this popcorn mix ahead, the key to keeping the popcorn from becoming stale is to use enough melted almond bark to provide a hard shell to coat it. The popcorn mix will stay fresh up to a week in a sealed container.

It’s always do fun to see your presentation for your seasonal popcorn mix. The skeleton hand over the edge of the bowl – excellent.

OMG! Thank you Mary! I am cackling with glee! More potions to play with! I think October should be extended to at least 45 days, with perfect fall weather included, so we could have more time for spell binding fun! Your snack mix is bewitching, and I’m sure it will attract all kinds of creepy fingers! I certainly hope Matthew doesn’t rain out your weekend or dampen your Halloween decor :( Thanks so much for the giveaway, 🎃 👻 be sure to link up all your Halloween magical posts at my Halloween linky party next Wednesday!

I wouldn’t need to worry about this going stale. it wouldn’t last that long. Dare I even make this? I like to mix candy corn with nuts and pretzels and popcorn. It’s all addictive to me. Candy corn is my autumn guilty pleasure. If I buy a bag, I can’t keep my hands out of it. ;-)
Congratulations to the group of winners. I know they will have fun making mischief with your great prizes.
