At the Table: Tartan and Fitz and Floyd Christmas Lodge by the Tree

DSC_5497.1

Is it just me or does December seem to be flying by? I’m trying to put the brakes on to slow down and enjoy the season with 12 days left until Christmas!

I set a table by the tree to enjoy the twinkle and glow of the lights. . .

Taking some time to enjoy some tartan and cozy, warm plaid layers.

Napkins, napkin rings and plates are layered to make things merry and bright.

The napkin rings are actually two different patterns. I liked the pine cone design with the placemats but it looked a little plain by itself so I married the two patterns together. . . the more the merrier!

A Fitz and Floyd Christmas Lodge Santa pitcher is serving as a centerpiece for the table. It’s filled with some fresh-cut greenery and a few twigs to hang some small pine cone ornaments to add a woodland ‘lodge’ note.

Magnolia leaves, boxwood springs and Leyland cypress make a natural evergreen runner sprinkled with pine cone ornaments and mercury glass votives, to add a warm glow to the table.

Apples add a bright pop of red to the table to pair with apples in Santa’s basket.

I found the Fitz and Floyd Santa pitcher at a favorite antique mall for a great price this fall, due to a small chip in the handle.

I used a favorite trick from my retails days for an easy repair and camouflage, with permanent colored markers and some clear nail polish.

How to make an easy cosmetic repair to ceramic | homeiswheretheboatis.net #tartan #tablescape #Christmas #Santa

Color over the bare chip with a permanent markers, blending and shading to match the porcelain painted finish. Use a light hand at first, you can make it darker as needed. After touching up the color with your markers, paint several layers of clear nail polish over to seal it until it has a glossy finish.

This is a great little trick for a cosmetic touch up and to cover blemish on a decorative, ceramic piece. Whoooo would know this pitcher had a chip now? ;)

Beautiful tablescape, This should put everyone in the Christmas Spirit! Thank you for the tip on repairing a chip on a piece of ceramic. Merry Christmas!

Mary what a beautiful table! Fitz and Floyd pieces from yesteryear were so beautifully done. I have 5 Santa pitchers and love them. Thank you for sharing the repair tip. What joy it would be to sit at your table and take in the colors of Christmas!

I really like this combination, Mary. The Mikasa salad plates on the tartan and beaded placemats really pop, especially with the napkin and ring. Altogether it’s a great combination. I’ve used that trick on my own ceramics too!

What a festive table Mary….Had to chuckle when I saw the markers…I have used them too on touching up things! Now if I can find a good “bondo” technique!!! Love seeing the beaded chargers again..they are truly gorgeous and paired with those amazing napkin rings is perfection….I agree…December has flown by!!! Does not seem to be enough time to get everything done! Thanks again for treating us with a most beautiful table Mary! Have a Very Merry Day!

Lovely table!!! I am trying the marks and nail polish trick!!! I have passed up some lovely pieces with very small chips, I have also gotten home with several pieces I thought were prefect, only to find a small chip! So, this is a great tip!!! I love all Fitz and Floyd!!! Such a warm and inviting table! The plaid and holly napkins with the pine cone rings, just beautiful on the plaid, holly and pine cone plates and charger!!! Lovely, lovely, lovely!!! Thanks for the chip trick and have a Merry Wednesday!!!

Please do put the brakes on December Mary! Your cozy table is just the reminder we need to stop and relax a little and enjoy the moments and special scenery of the holiday season. I know everyone will appreciate your tip for fixing chips, especially the clear nail polish. I do the same thing with a little enamel paint.. .what I want to know is how do things get chipped when they are just tucked away on a shelf, I pulled out 3 different things that had little chips! Love your F&F collection, it’s so pretty with greenery, plaids and fresh red apples~

Mary, I don’t know if it puts you on Santa’s naughty or nice list but your festive table inspired me to search for this Santa pitcher and I just found one online ~~ so thank you from me even though I’ve now broken my resolve not to add to my Christmas stash! He will be perfect for a woodland Christmas table I am doing on Christmas Eve!! Pinecones, tartan and sparkle are just what I want for it! If he arrives with a few battle scars I will know what to do with your brilliant trick. Merry next 12 Days, Mary, and the 12 after that too! Linda

Your table is stunning! I gave my daughter a Fitz and Floyd Santa for her wedding twenty five years ago this Christmas! I will make sure she sees your beautiful table. Thanks for all your clever tricks from your retail days.

I know, Mary, don’t we need another month just to simply enjoy December?? Your trick of repair is a good one. I’ve been known to do that myself! Your Santa pitcher sure makes a stunning centerpiece. I love those Mikasa Holly plates and your French Countryside goblets always look perfect with every setting. Enjoy the soft glow by your tree!

Thank you so much for the quick fix trick. So many times I see beautiful pieces at the antique shops and pass them up because of a small chips. Blessings to you and yours; as we celebrate this season of love, joy and peace. Merry Christmas!!!

Don’t you just love staring at the twinkley lights? I sure do, it is so relaxing and fills my mind of sweet memories of the past. How neat that you can have a beautiful tartan table with such lovely dishes by the tree! It’s so cozy, love the F&F Santa. Thank you for the chip fix. I have colored chips before, but never thought about the clear nail polish. SMART!

Yes, It is going too fast and grabbing moments to enjoy is important. Your table is so beautifully put together and your tree as a backdrop adds to the ambiance. It is all so beautifully done. I always love fresh greenery and the apples had a special touch. Thank you for giving us something beautiful to look at this morning.

Mary, the month is flying by for me, too, but time magically slows at this warm, beautiful table. The richly detailed F&F Santa conveys a story, but your table is a whole novel. Cozy, bright, and charming. A genius blend of textures and patterns. Love, love, love your idea of combining napkin rings, along with your tip about repairing nicks and chips. I also love the mix of tartan and vintage china. I can’t pin from this maddening iPad (it “corrects” my spelling, too). I suspect that technology is fattening: it “forces” me to eat way too much chocolate. 🎄💕🐾☕️🌲🍩🍪

WOW Mary, you’re just full of GREAT ideas today. I LOVE the double napkin ring usage. How clever. Thanks for the chip repair. I’ve been using the marker trick for years, but eventually it begins to fade. The addition of clear nail polish could solve this problem. Lovely table and great score on the Santa pitcher.

  20. December 13, 2017 at 1:12 pm

Yes, I agree time is flying by before our eyes! I must admit it seems like the bloggers outdid themselves for the autumn season, but it doesn’t seem like we’ve seem as much for Christmas! I always enjoy your creative side and wish I had the gift of pulling all your décor together. It would be a treat to sit down as an honored guest at your table! To me, it seems like I spend a fortune trying to get that certain look…a look that I can never capture myself. Merry Christmas~

  21. December 13, 2017 at 1:29 pm

Great tip about the permanent colored markers (which I have used myself in the past) and the nail polish, which I had not tried. Does it hold up the dishwasher? I so enjoy your blog and all the beauty.

    • December 13, 2017 at 1:33 pm

Thank you Heather! I’ve only used it for a decorative touch up.🎄

  23. December 13, 2017 at 3:49 pm

By pairing the napkin rings they look rather owlish which ties in with the owl on the pitcher. Always a favorite stop in blogland. Enjoy the coming days.

Thank you for the tip with the markers and polish on ceramic. My mother gifted us with a nice vinyl sofa for our cabin several years ago. In transit it received some scraps on the front of it. I found that markers worked great to hide the scars. No one can tell but me.

What a wonderful table full of inspiration! Each time you use your tree slice chargers I wish I had known in time to get some. I doubled 2 napkin rings for my last table too! I love your F and F pitcher, as I love anything F and F!!! Thanks so much for the tip! I will now not pass up anything chipped! Have a great rest of the week.

  31. December 14, 2017 at 7:21 am

WOW MARY! Love the table..how did you know my fix for chips in some bargains that I find..shhh!! Don’t tell everyone… Fitz & Floyd pieces are hard to find..they are so expensive at the big stores but I try for after Christmas sales, etc. you were very lucky to find that nice piece..I would say you found your Merry Christmas to me present!! Well, tartan always makes me a happy girl. I’d love to join you at this delightful table, Mary. The Santa pitcher was a good find. F&F produces beautiful ceramics. I’m like you……I can’t believe how quickly the time is rushing by. Wish things would slow down!
