Is it just me or does December seem to be flying by? I’m trying to put the brakes on to slow down and enjoy the season with 12 days left until Christmas!
I set a table by the tree to enjoy the twinkle and glow of the lights. . .
Taking some time to enjoy some tartan and cozy, warm plaid layers.
Napkins, napkin rings and plates are layered to make things merry and bright.
The napkin rings are actually two different patterns. I liked the pine cone design with the placemats but it looked a little plain by itself so I married the two patterns together. . . the more the merrier!
A Fitz and Floyd Christmas Lodge Santa pitcher is serving as a centerpiece for the table. It’s filled with some fresh-cut greenery and a few twigs to hang some small pine cone ornaments to add a woodland ‘lodge’ note.
Magnolia leaves, boxwood springs and Leyland cypress make a natural evergreen runner sprinkled with pine cone ornaments and mercury glass votives, to add a warm glow to the table.
Apples add a bright pop of red to the table to pair with apples in Santa’s basket.
I found the Fitz and Floyd Santa pitcher at a favorite antique mall for a great price this fall, due to a small chip in the handle.
I used a favorite trick from my retails days for an easy repair and camouflage, with permanent colored markers and some clear nail polish.
Color over the bare chip with a permanent markers, blending and shading to match the porcelain painted finish. Use a light hand at first, you can make it darker as needed. After touching up the color with your markers, paint several layers of clear nail polish over to seal it until it has a glossy finish.
This is a great little trick for a cosmetic touch up and to cover blemish on a decorative, ceramic piece. Whoooo would know this pitcher had a chip now? ;)

I really like this combination, Mary. The Mikasa salad plates on the tartan and beaded placemats really pop, especially with the napkin and ring. Altogether it’s a great combination. I’ve used that trick on my own ceramics too!
What a festive table Mary….Had to chuckle when I saw the markers…I have used them too on touching up things! Now if I can find a good “bondo” technique!!! Love seeing the beaded chargers again..they are truly gorgeous and paired with those amazing napkin rings is perfection….I agree…December has flown by!!! I have passed up some lovely pieces with very small chips, I have also gotten home with several pieces I thought were prefect, only to find a small chip! So, this is a great tip!!! Please do put the brakes on December Mary! Your cozy table is just the reminder we need to stop and relax a little and enjoy the moments and special scenery of the holiday season. I know everyone will appreciate your tip for fixing chips, especially the clear nail polish. I do the same thing with a little enamel paint.. .what I want to know is how do things get chipped when they are just tucked away on a shelf, I pulled out 3 different things that had little chips! Mary, I don’t know if it puts you on Santa’s naughty or nice list but your festive table inspired me to search for this Santa pitcher and I just found one online ~~ so thank you from me even though I’ve now broken my resolve not to add to my Christmas stash! He will be perfect for a woodland Christmas table I am doing on Christmas Eve!! Pinecones, tartan and sparkle are just what I want for it! Mary, the month is flying by for me, too, but time magically slows at this warm, beautiful table. The richly detailed F&F Santa conveys a story, but your table is a whole novel. Cozy, bright, and charming. A genius blend of textures and patterns. Love, love, love your idea of combining napkin rings, along with your tip about repairing nicks and chips. I also love the mix of tartan and vintage china. I can’t pin from this maddening iPad (it “corrects” my spelling, too). I suspect that technology is fattening: it “forces” me to eat way too much chocolate. 🎄💕🐾☕️🌲🍩🍪

Yes, I agree time is flying by before our eyes! I must admit it seems like the bloggers outdid themselves for the autumn season, but it doesn’t seem like we’ve seem as much for Christmas! I always enjoy your creative side and wish I had the gift of pulling all your décor together. It would be a treat to sit down as an honored guest at your table! To me, it seems like I spend a fortune trying to get that certain look…a look that I can never capture myself. Merry Christmas~
Great tip about the permanent colored markers (which I have used myself in the past) and the nail polish, which I had not tried. Does it hold up the dishwasher? I so enjoy your blog and all the beauty.

Thank you for the tip with the markers and polish on ceramic. My mother gifted us with a nice vinyl sofa for our cabin several years ago. In transit it received some scraps on the front of it. I found that markers worked great to hide the scars. No one can tell but me.
