Hi Mary. I love your posts! They inspired me a lot since i visited the first time your website. I am new in canning. I started last year. I had used it just for canning pickled vegetables and a few jams. But this year I will try to use in more inspirations. Just seeing today your site I can use it in many more things! Thanks. Carmen.

Good Morning! I, too, love jars…all kinds. I save all kinds of jars that food/spices come in and as a canner for nearly 40 years I have lots of mason jars but then one can never have to many jars.🤣 I pinned the picture of the candle in my Christmas decorating folder plus saved the photo of the vintage jars to order if I don’t win. I am always looking for jars when antiquing. In fact, I just ordered six 72 ounce jars to organize the flowers/ herbs I am drying to feed/ share with my chickens this winter when my supply of fresh is limited. I would use the vintage jars for flowers and desserts. Have a great day. Peace. PS I am having a glass of milk in a mason jar mug as I write this.

I use ball jars for many things too. One of the things I did was make 200 jars of jam for my Granddaughters wedding.

Jars are so useful & I love all the different shapes. My husband now won’t get rid of one without asking first. Just saved a Bud vase type one that held balsamic vinegar. All you Grandmoms out there can make Memory Jars for your Grands this summer to hold special finds from the beach & other trips, photos, etc. The fabulous garden designer, Ryan Gainey was a big proponent of these🌹

Just love the rose color! Would definitely add flowers when in bloom. But would use one to hold cotton balls and another for bath crystals in the bathroom. Might also place strings of old pearls and sparkly rhinestone jewelry in another with the miniature battery powered lights. Bonnie

Growing up in a rural dairy town in upstate New York I once resented all jars Mason or Ball! Every summer into fall I had to wash than help my mother fill the jars with endless amounts of spaghetti sauce, vegetables, jams and jellies! Standing over a boiling pot on hot summer days when I’d rather be swimming in the neighbors pond. I used to be embarrassed to offer my friends kool aid or sweet tea in the chipped jars. Now at 65 I can’t get my hands on enough of these jars!!! I love to use them for fresh flowers. I serve sweet tea to my family and friends out of these jars and I’m even starting to put up my own spaghetti sauces and jams! With these beautiful lavender texture jars I would gladly display the wildflowers that grow in the meadow across the way from me.

I’d use them for my morning smoothie that color would give me an added smile to start my morning as well as using them around the farm for flowers especially when my best friend visits she loved fresh cut my farms hydrangeas in her room.
Love all your pictures and ideas always great 💓

These pink/mauve jars are so pretty. I love the way you use your ball jars for everything. Right now I have a bunch of old blue ones sitting over my island in my kitchen. Believe it or not, I use some of the small ball jars to store paint, usually my really good paint, like Annie Sloan, etc. They keep the paint in good condition and look real pretty in a display. That way I don’t have to keep opening and closing the paint can. Thank you for sharing all your wonderful ideas with us.

  22. June 24, 2022 at 7:38 am

Hi Mary, I love seeing your newest addition to ‘Home is where the boat is’ in my email box. I am a long-time Mason jar user. I especially enjoy the recipes and all the photos of your blooms!

I have used Ball and Mason jars for decades for storing food, leftovers, displaying flowers (I especially like Peonies and Lilacs set on the table in a quart Mason jar!). A few years ago I discovered lids for jars to use them as drink glasses, and also to store my favorite scouring mix (Baking Soda and Borax) for cleaning. These versatile jars have so many uses I find them to be just about the most versatile items in my kitchen.

Thank you for your lovely blog, each one I read always brightens my day.

Good morning ☕. I have a dear friend who is going through radiation treatments, so she would be my first recipient of a pretty jar filled with a floral arrangement or maybe an assortment of tea bags, because we like to have tea together. She has a sweet screened in porch with pink floral cushions, pillows and all of the things on her wicker furniture. One of these jars would have a perfect home there. I can think of so many ideas for the other three, two to give away and one to stay behind ☺️. Have a wonderful Friday, Mary.

  44. June 24, 2022 at 8:57 am

I hope this gets to you for the ball jar giveaway. I haven’t figured out how to send a comment to your site. I’ve tried several times. If you do get this, I use ball jars for so many things. When I lived in Rhode Island, I used to make homemade grape jelly from my mother-in-laws grapevines. Here, in Florida, I don’t make it anymore. However, I use ball jars for everything from flower arrangements to putting candy corn and a candle in the jar for Halloween. I would love to win ball jars.

Thank you so much. I appreciate you!!

What a beautiful way to start this sunny day with your email of such lovely antique looking glass jars. I think Ball did a wonderful job of creating old glass and a color of days gone by. I would be displaying them in my windows with all of my other jars. I love to see the way the the sun light streams through them. I am lucky to have wide window ledges it is just like stain glass to me. Thank you for making my days brighter with your emails. You can’t go wrong with flowers, dogs, good food, and friends like you Mary. Thanks for coming into my email. I was very luck to have found you years ago.

Beautiful color. I have a 40 year collection of antique or vintage turquoise ball jars and during the slower COVID times I labeled each of them with their dates. It amazing what I can get done in 40 yrs. 😆 my mom had a few pieces of her mother’s depression glass, the only thing memento she had as her mom died young. They are mauve pink so I would use these mauve jars with that set as drinking glasses or flower vases.

Oh Mary what a fabulous array of all your posts using jars! We have a collection of my Mother’s canning jars(they are 50+ years old.) Then add ours to the collection… well, you get the picture. We love them all! I have many colors including red and would love this pink or lavender. If I do not win… I’ll be ordering from the link you shared. I’ll use them for beverages at the table. Thanks so much for sharing and for the giveaway! Happy weekend to you!

Our house has a large pantry with a refinished antique sink, lots of places to display my transferware and antique implements, and happily, long narrow shelves to display my antique jars that hold cereal, pasta, dried beans, sugar, etc. Not only can I easily find what I am looking for, I also get to look at all of my jars! Each one is unique and has memories of where they came from.

  78. June 24, 2022 at 11:41 am

So many ways to use…filled with flowers, pink lemonade…or just sitting on the window ledge, letting the sun shine thru…

  79. June 24, 2022 at 11:41 am

Hi, Mary, love this post. I’ve been using mason jars for a long time, both for canning goodies and giving flowers. Got the ideas from my grandmothers who got it from their mothers. I even keep buttons, spools of thread, and other sewing items in them.

These new Pinkish Ball Mason jars are so very pretty. I would love to put some pale pink peony in them with a pretty bow tied around the jar. It would make me so happy to see them during peony season used for them and after that season I would use them for herbs sitting in my kitchen window. Thank you for giving away such awesome gifts Mary. Happy Fourth to your family and hope y’all have fun on the lake🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️

I have some vintage blue Ball jars that belonged to my grandmother. They are precious to me because they were hers. I use them to store various dry goods and they are displayed on my kitchen counter. Right now they house rice and various cracker snacks. I have vintage lids for most of them. But, I am missing two. I wish I knew where I could get replacement vintage lids. I love in NC and love follow your blog. Tha!

Greetings from the midwest, Mary. My local grocery store sometimes has flowers in the ball jars and several times over the past 5 years, I have been able to snag a few. I do indeed use them for flowers but also I have a small apt. kitchen so I use one of the larger ones as a crock on my countertop for my cooking utensils and knives. I have 1 smaller baby ball jar and I do a tea light or votive candle in it. I have long admired your decorating styl and also love your dogs. Thank you for all your inspiration over the last few years.

Oh Mary, these are so pretty! I don’t ever think to use jars for flowers, I’ve got to start doing that! I love the color and texture of these jars…my favorite way to use jars is to keep and display snacks on the bar and kitchen island, the snacks are handy to grab and look pretty in jars! I also use jars to organize my pens, markers and various art supplies, you can never have too many jars!

  134. June 27, 2022 at 1:06 am

Oh Mary, I love these jars! What a lovely color…and ripple glass. I’d use them for craft and flowers! I can just see them on my desk filled with pens or paint brushes or…whatever I need handy. And of course flowers freshly cut or bought.

I always enjoy looking/reading your blog! I love Mason/Ball jars…even antique ones that I have found at resale shops, or at relatives homes that are down sizing. I do can using these jars every summer but use the newer jars. Some other ways I use canning jars are vases, charcuterie boards, organizing sewing items, soap dispensers. I have used Ball jars for so many things starting with actual canning when I had a large garden to using them for holding buttons and odds and ends, then using them for dry goods in my pantry. Now I still collect them in all sizes and find them at yard sales and thrift stores. This new color would be delightful filled with lavender and other sweet smelling herbs sitting on my bedside table. Just had our bedroom painted a pale shade of lavender. Thanks Mary for all the ideas for using my jar collection.
