Happy February!
It’s one of my favorite days of the month when I join my
Monday Morning Blooms’ friends to share some flower therapy.

We’re celebrating Valentine’s Day for February’s edition of Monday Morning Blooms.
You can find Pam and Lidy’s links to their Valentine’s Day
floral inspiration at the bottom of this post.

Flowers provide a cheery antidote for cold, gray winter days and
Valentine’s Day offers the perfect excuse
to treat yourself to flowers and be your own Valentine!

I’m sharing my love of transferware with a blooming vignette
and table in The Potting Shed.

The grocery store was bursting with blooms in anticipation of Valentine’s Day.
I picked some carnations, hydrangeas, stock, mums, Charmelia and tulips
to fill some jars and pitchers on the window ledge and table the Potting Shed.

Tulips were on sale for $4 a bunch -> happy dance!
Vase life for cut tulips is 3-10 days, depending on variety, care and maturity.
Carnations, mums and Charmelia have a long vase life naturally, with proper care.
Stock is usually the shortest-lived flower for me but their fragrance makes up for it,
and hydrangeas are notorious for wilting, but Crowning Glory prevents that!

Regular readers have heard me sing the praises of Crowning Glory
before, as I have had flowers that last easily two weeks when using it!
If you’re not familiar with Crowning Glory, it’s a transpirant spray
that seals in moisture and dries clear.
It’s safe to use on all flower types and is especially beneficial
for flowers that are prone to wilting due to moisture loss, like hydrangeas.

Two products I swear by for long-lasting flowers are Floralife Flower Food and
Crowning Glory Solution Floral Spray.
Tip: If you’re buying flowers from the grocery store, always use the flower food packets
that come with your flowers to give them their longest vase life.
Flower food / floral preservative provides nutrients for your flowers and controls
the pH for optimal water uptake, while also reducing bacteria in your vase water.
I like the conveniece of the 10 oz. container of flower food for easy mixing,
especially if you’re using a larger vase. You don’t have to fiddle
with opening little packets to mix up 16 oz. of solution at a time,
and it’s more eco-friendly since you’re not disposing of little plastic wrappers.
One 10 oz. container will make 30 quarts of solution.

After purchasing my flowers, I give the stems a generous, fresh cut
on a 45 degree angle, and strip any foliage that’s below the waterline.
To condition the flowers, I place them in a clean container with room temperature
water mixed flower food and then spray them with Crowning Glory.
Flowers that grow from bulbs like tulips prefer cold water, so I keep them separate.
Note: Wait to spray roses with Crowning Glory after they are open
as it will prohibit them from opening further.
Keep your flowers somewhere cool and away from direct sunlight,
until ready to arrange them. (I keep mine on the porch.)
After arranging my flowers, I’ll give everything another spritz of Crowning Glory.

Transferware in shades from pale pink to deep rose provide some additional blooms
and a soft and romantic color palette and vignette for Valentine’s Day.

Crown Ducal Pink Bristol is a favorite transferware pattern,
inherited from my hubby’s grandmother.
The 1930s-era plates have some crazing and discoloration but still provide some
pretty-in-pink blooms and a nod to love birds for Valentine’s Day.

Pretty-in-pink Spode botanical plates were a
favorite antique mall find several years ago. . .

Carnations and tulips fill Collector’s Edition Vintage Rose Ball Jars,
introduced in 2022.

The rose jars are shown as pink on the Ball Mason Jar website
but are actually a mauve / lavender color.
While harder to find, they’re still available; I spied some quart size jars at Target last week.

Regular readers know I’m a jar-a-holic as well as dish-a-holic ;)
and the rose jars have a textured ‘wavy glass’ appearance, like old window glass that appealed
to me. . . fun for corralling or displaying blooming flaware as well as flowers.

I’m always on the look out for a vintage fork, knife or spoon
I can pick up for a dollar to two, to mix and match
and create a flatware bouquet. 💐 :)

of flowers as the base of the plate stack . . .

Topped with a square Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz plate . . .

And a Crown Ducal Bristol cup and saucer with a napkin folded as a rose.

Here are the easy steps with graphic to create a rose napkin fold. . .
an easy way to elevate your table for Valentine’s Day,
Mother’s Day or teatime!

🌹 Start by folding a square napkin in half to create a large triangle. Roll the long edge or base of the triangle toward the point, leaving a small triangle of fabric.
🌹 Beginning on one end, tightly roll up the long edge to within about 4 inches of the opposite end.
🌹 Wrap the tail of the napkin around and tuck it in near the base, which allows you stand up the napkin.
🌹 Fold down and separate each small triangle of fabric.
🌹 Flip the napkin over and adjust the triangular ends to resemble leaves.
Add to the center of your plate or insert in a teacup!

Good morning, Mary! The potting shed is stunning with all of the red transferware and blooms! How lovely is Crown Ducal Pink Bristol inherited from your hubby’s grandmother and the gorgeous Spode Archive Collection. I need to up my game of transferware after seeing your amazing collection. As I am looking at the pretty pitcher of Charmelia, I am reminded that I have never seen it in my grocery stores. I love carnations for their frilliness, spicy scent, and long vase life. The tulips are a favorite of mine even though they have a mind of their own. How sweet are the vintage inspired Valentines and the plate stack with a napkin folded as a rose.
The Potting Shed is a breath of beauty and charm on this cold, gray morning. It is always a treat to join you for Monday Morning Blooms!
Wishing you and hubby a wonderful Valentine’s Day ❤️❤️

Mary, a treat for the eyes and soul. We had a very rough night last night, with pounding rain and horrible winds. I need some beauty after that storm. Your transferware is so beautiful. Love the Crown Ducal Pink Bristol inherited from your hubby’s grandmother. The pitcher is so pretty with fresh flowers. Carnations are always nice because they last. The vintage looking valentines are so cute and add a nice touch. Happy new week.
Wow!just a stunning table scape. Love everything about it. So perfect.
Happy Monday, Mary! I always swoon when I see all of your pretty dishes! You always create the most beautiful displays in your potting shed. This is just the thing to brighten a winter’s day. Your florals are gorgeous, and the red tipped carnations are quite striking. Wishing you a most wonderful week, sweet friend!
Thank you for sharing your treasures. I had not thought of silverware as a floral bouquet until today! Lovely flower bouquets to brighten my day. I have the lavender mason jars and I made a solar chandelier with them. Also love the napkin rose and paper valentines. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Well, that was fun! Your valentine decor so inspired me that I grabbed napkin from my kitchen drawer and rolled up a perfect rose. Looking forward to pulling out my red ones for Valentines Day. Thanks for the easy to follow, inspiring directions!
So sorry Mary, for the late visit. Rain is pounding down on our beautiful Southern California coast today {and all week} but happily the electricity is back on. What a delightful setting to celebrate Love’s Own Day! Perfectly set, and with all my favorite red & white patterned dishes, too.
You setting is a delight in this wintery month, especially for those of us in a winter rain storm. I can only imagine how cozy it would be to have tea, a treat, or a meal in your beautiful setting, enjoying all of your beautiful flowers. As always, it’s a joy and a blessing to join you for our sweet Monday Morning Blooms!

Your blooming tablescape is making my heart go pitter patter, Mary. I wish I could get a whiff of how wonderful it smells in your potting shed All those pretty patterns sure look so pretty together. Thank you for Monday pick-me-up of inspiration and beauty ❤️
What a beautiful collection of transferware Mary! I adore your husband’s grandmother’s dishes with the dainty scalloped edge of the teacup. So many pretties and the vintage Valentines are a sweet touch. Thanks so much for the tip on Crowning Glory again, I finally added it to my shopping card. Happy February ♥

Lots of beautiful inspiration! Thank you so much!
❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️
I love how you start this out by saying ‘be your own valentine’, Mary. Your flowers are so pretty! The tulips make me so happy, knowing it’ll soon be time for them, and your Ball jar makes them even prettier. All the flowers – so gorgeous, especially being grocery picks! Of course I love your transferware patterns (and the Chintz, so dainty!). You’re so smart to pick up all the little orphan pretties of flatware. They really add so much to the bloom displays. Happy Monday Blooms!
ps I spent time in the garden again today – such a glorious gift of an afternoon after finishing our taxes!
Just gorgeous! Transferware has always been my favorite and you do it beautifully. The floral silver and that napkin rose are just the icing on the cake!
Mary, Your potting shed is beautifully decorated with pretty flowers and gorgeous transferware. Thanks for the napkin folding instructions. I love the final result of a rosebud. Those tulips are really lovely! I love the various bouquets but those tulips got my attention right away. Have a wonderful week. Clara ❤️

Such beautiful flowers! Flowers are so calming! Happy Valentine, and thanks for sharing
Mary, what a beautiful Valentine table!
The transferware China is so pretty and love it mixed together. I have Christmas transferware that I enjoy every year but now I’m going to look for florals like yours!
The instructions for the napkin rose make it so easy to replicate. I can’t wait to add those to my valentine table.
Thank you for your inspiring settings in the potting shed! It means so much to find someone that clearly loves what they do.
And shares with all of us!!
Everything is just so stunning! It makes me want to throw another tea party right now.
We have been battered by storms, such a joy to just come and absorb beauty… Thanks for the rest!
Mary, I stopped by Monday, started a comment, but then was distracted and never got back to finish. So here I am tonight. I love the red transferware! Of course the potting shed always looks special and inviting. Reminds me of my childhood playhouse which was an old work shed that my father cleaned out and let me have as a playhouse. Oh the memories!
A wealth of wonderful details fill this post. I keep scrolling up and down taking it all in again and again. I’ve yet to pull out my Valentine things, but plan to get on that tomorrow. I’m two weeks out from hip replacement and think I can handle a few creative tasks. I’m going to give it a try! You have inspired me!!!
Just lovely. ❤️
Mary, your post is a feast for the eyes and heart! I adore your transferware and chintz and all the collected flatware. With your memory you probably call recall where you bought each piece!
The variegated carnations and tulips are especially pretty and your styling is delightful. I love the taller hydrangeas in the center! The rose napkin fold in the teacup is a special Valentine touch. Vintage inspired Valentines scattered about are lovely nostalgic accents and the floral napkins pull all your elements together beautifully.
Mary your tablecape is gorgeous. Everything is so right and beautiful for the holiday.
Happy Valentine Day
Marion,Marilyn and Joan
This is lovely. I am having trouble making the roses. What size square is your napkin?
Hi, they were 20” squares but I’ve used 16” napkins too.
