Happy April!
It’s one of my favorite days of the month when I join my
Monday Morning Blooms’ friends to share some flower therapy.

You can find my flower friends’ links to their beautiful floral and table inspiration at the bottom of this post.
Our common theme for April’s edition of Monday Morning Blooms was ‘Spring’!
☀️👒🌷🌸🐰🌱

I have a spring in my step with our warming temps and April’s arrival!

Spring shrubs are leafing out and perennials are emerging with our warming temperatures.
Our frost date is April 15th and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Mother Nature
doesn’t throw us a curve ball so the buds and tender growth
don’t get frost-nipped over the next few weeks.🤞

Peter Rabbit and friends hopped to the counter for a
little tabletop fun to welcome spring and gardening season
in The Potting Shed!

As fellow gardeners know, ‘a little dirt never hurt’!

I’m a big fan of Beatrix Potter and her charmed world of Peter Rabbit,
Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten and Benjamin Bunny.

Beatrix Potter is one of the world’s best-loved children’s authors
with more than two million books sold every year.

A moss bunny with basket hopped to the counter. . .
The naughty bunny’s basket is filled with kale,
freshly picked from Mr. McGregor’s garden. . .

He snuck away with more of Mr. McGregor’s veggies . . . radishes and carrots.

A floral garden trowel and fork join carrot and lettuce seed packets,
Peter Rabbit’s favorite veggies. . .

Gardening gloves hold napkins and flatware in anticipation of gardening season.

Peter Rabbit cups and saucers are filled with red kale,
and the last of the Lenton Roses. . .

Along with sprigs of Bridal Wreath Spirea that’s blooming now.

A favorite watering can is filled with white hydrangeas,
mimicking fluffy bunny cottontails. . .

And joining orange and yellow tulips, spirea,
as well as kale, for texture and interest,
in keeping with the veggie theme.

Tulips add a pop of red, filling a cup and saucer. . .

And a pair of moss bunnies hold pots of red kale and spirea.

The story of Peter Rabbit in Mr. McGregor’s garden first appeared in 1893,
in a picture letter Beatrix Potter wrote to her former governess’ son, Noel,
which tells the story of a mischievous rabbit called Peter. Encouraged by her success after having
some greeting cards published, Beatrix Potter expanded into a little picture book
with black and white illustrations seven years later.

Initially rejected by several publishers, Beatrix Potter had it printed herself to give to family and friends.

Frederick Warne agreed to publish the tale if she supplied color photos for the book,
which became an instant success in 1903.

From Beatrix Potter’s Gardening Life:
Beatrix Potter was a late bloomer, gardening-wise. By the time she saw the first growing season progress through her garden at Hill Top she would be forty years old. In spite of a somewhat late start, the seeds of Potter’s gardening interests were planted early on.

(Beatrix Potter at a garden gate about 1871)

Part one in Beatrix Potter’s Gardening Life is her life as a gardener with chapters titled
Germination, Offshoots, Flowering, Roots, Ripening, and Setting Seed.

Part two is a year in Beatrix Potter’s Gardens, divided by seasons,
and part three is visiting Beatrix Potter’s Gardens.

In The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies by Beatrix Potter (1909)
Peter has grown up and is the nursery business with his mother.
They advertise special services:
“Gardens Neatly Razed, Borders Devastated by the Night or Year.”

I have my own Peter Rabbit & Mother Florist crew by The Potting Shed. . .

Their business is thriving ;)

Hear, hear, spring is here! But…I will need to cover plants once again Wed – Sat this week with our real feel in the upper 20s, yikes!
I love Peter Rabbit’s popup shop at your potting shed (no wonder his business is thriving, it’s so inviting!). It would be so easy for me to putter around the potting shed and enjoy all the fun with florals and dishes. Your springtime buffet is just perfect. Every time I see those photos of Peter and Co in your garden I have to chuckle at the audacity and irony. They crack me up. I love the bridal wreath spirea with the kale and veggies, hydrangeas are the perfect cottontails.and the red tulips are just as cute pops as the radishes. Happy April!
Good morning, Mary. Peter Rabbit is a favorite of my grands and me!!They would be enchanted with your potting shed’s Peter display. I am also enchanted with the fabulous setting of dishes, moss rabbits, and veggies. The sweet innocence of Beatrix Potter’s stories of Peter and supporting characters never grow old. I agree that “a little dirt never hurt” and what child doesn’t love to play in dirt?! The moss bunny with basket is so unique, I have never seen one like it. The sweet MC watering can is perfect sitting on the petite stool with a hydrangea bunny tail and pretty tulips! It has been so much fun to visit with you and Peter Rabbit.
Wishing you a beautiful spring day. It is always a pleasure to share blooms 🐰🌷🐇
Thank you for bringing back memories of times past with my adult children and grandbabies. Just love your decorations.
Hi Mary,
I love Beatrix Potter. Such a wonderful memory. I have to say it tugs on the ol’ heart strings.
Mary, I always find your posts so inspiring! I’ve learned so much; your talent is without bounds. Not only beautiful pictures but also historical background are so often included. Thank you so much! Have a wonderful week!
Love your Peter Rabbit theme today! What a timeless delight to revisit the story. I love using kale in your arrangements. I especially love the teacups with sweet Lenton roses and Bridal Wreath.
Your pretty gardening gloves make me realize I actually need new gloves. I wear them our regularly.
I enjoyed seeing the childhood picture of Beatrix Potter. She was a talented person. Her works have delighted many.
It was a treat to see your watering cans put into service and moss bunnies. Delightful vignette in the potting shed.
Happy Spring.
Mary, Your potting shed is bursting with beautiful spring flowers, veggies and pretty bunnies. I love the veggies and flowers mixed together as they have complementing textures. I always enjoy seeing how you incorporate your pretty garden tools and gloves into your table setting. What wonderful ideas! These warm days are great. It’s so difficult holding off on planting flowers although we’re still in for some cooler nights with frost which is what I keep telling myself! Happy Monday! Clara❤️
Oh how I love all the decor for spring! Everything is delightful and charming and so hopeful for the good weather to come. You’ve done a stunning job of arranging all your wonderful decor.
This was all so adorable, but then what could be sweeter than channeling Beatrix Potter. Love all the images and your flower accents are so lovely. Fun post and hope you have a wonderful Spring, Sandi. Still freezing here in Chicagoland!
Oh, you have the most glorious spring! I can’t believe your temperatures! We had a wet Easter, but a good one. I love your post, channeling Beatrix Potter. Oh, I was SO tempted to buy some of those plates. Your setting is so perfect for this time of year! Happy April! xo
Oh Mary, you keep outdoing yourself with cuteness! I love “a little dirt can’t hurt!” sign and all the adorable Peter Rabbit things and your Mr. McGregor’s Garden theme~ I love the way you styled the place settings with garden gloves, seed packages and tools. The MKC watering can is so pretty with kale, tulips and hydrangea cotton tails!
It is amazing that Beatrix Potter was first rejected by publishers! Thank you for the hopping bunny fun today!
Jenna
What a happy April 1st post, Mary, with no fooling in sight ( well except for those bunnies in the garden). I’m really loving the floral filled teacups and all your Beatrix Potter pieces. I hope you had an Easter filled with many blessings!
Mary, I pulled out my Beatrix Potter things yesterday with the intent to set a Peter Rabbit table. Hope I get it done! You are definitely inspiring me. Wishing I had a wonderful potting shed to style. Perhaps the weather will cooperate and let me style my potting table. It will need some clever additions! You have me thinking of using my own watering cans as vases. I love the addition of the kale and carrots in your arrangements. I’ve pinned some of your wonderful ideas. Thanks!
Fingers crossed there are no late freezes. With Easter so early, I think we are all thinking it’s later than it actually is. Happy Spring!
SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!!! Beautiful tables and beautiful florals!!! 🌺🪷🌼🌸🪻💐🌷🌻🐇
As always, beautiful photography of beautiful displays in your potting shed! So much inspiration from Peter Rabbit and friends and your artistry!!
Oh Mary, visiting your blog is like going to a magical place. You create the most awesome “scenes” with such care and devotion. My face hurts from smiling at all these spring-y wonderful and fun photos! Thank you!
Mary, this is a wonderfully delicious post!! Peter Rabbit is a favorite no matter what the age. The plates are fabulous and the moss bunnies are so cute with the flowers and kale. Love the carrots and radishes too. I don’t think I’ve seen that Potting Shed sign before and it is so perfect for you. Your bridal wreath spirea is gorgeous! You have captured the mischievousness perfectly with your outdoor bunnies – I couldn’t help but smile at the pictures of the bunnies inside the “fence” and the one eating the leaf. Its all just delightful! Happy spring and happy (hopefully bunny-free) gardening!
Overload of cuteness Mary. Peter Rabbit and friends are so delightful. Your potting shed is transformed into a whimsical setting. Beatrix Potter certainly had an amazing imagination. Love your floral arrangement in the MC watering can with lovely tulips and hydrangeas as a bunny tail. Love your teacups with sweet Lenton roses and Bridal Wreath. The garden tools and pretty gloves are perfect for a table setting in your beloved shed.
Oh so adorable, love all your over the top, on the table, under the sun decor! So much fun to get to play like you do, one day I wish for endless freedom to play, but I made a mammoth garden to enjoy and there are endless tasks for one! So much cuteness always joyful to visit!
Oh, Mary, such a darling post! What a lovely tribute to Beatrix Potter and her lovable bunnies. Everything is just perfect! In a previous post I mentioned the movie “Miss Potter” that came out in 2007, (Renee Zellweger plays Beatrix), that I have recently watched on Amazon Prime. I absolutely LOVE IT and I am sure you would too. I hope you can watch it some evening soon before spring chores take up all of your time.
Mary, Beatrix Potter is one of my favorites! I love Peter Rabbit and I have the little figurines I bring out every Easter and use through spring. Your potting shed is certainly a favorite hang out for all things hopping and flowers blooming. A delight as always!
