A Farmers Market Table

DSC_4287-001

I’m taking a trip to the Farmers Market via the table!

DSC_4743-001

I had a little tabletop inspiration with a trip to one of our local Farmers Markets to enjoy some farm fresh summer veggies and peaches while they last, soon to be replaced by fall’s bounty of apples, pumpkins and winter squash.

I also had some inspiration from a Farmers Market tray,

fresh for the picking from World Market. . .

DSC_4327-001

. . . and some vintage-inspired Farmers Market seed cards to plant on the table.

A berry basket holds a medley of vine-ripened tomatoes, okra and South Carolina peaches, topped with some flowering basil.

Help yourself to a Farmers Market Bloody Mary!

Puree some summer heirloom tomatoes in a blender, strain the seeds and pulp to make fresh-from-the-garden tomato juice. Season your tomato juice with celery seed or salt, horseradish and tabasco to taste, a squeeze of lemon or lime, Worcestershire sauce and add your vodka.

Garnish and top with some garden fresh veggies: pickled okra, cucumber, heirloom cherry tomatoes, a sprig of parsley and basil and a celery stalk!

Farmers Market Pasta Salad

To savor the flavors of summer, help yourself to Farmers Market Pasta Salada bumper crop of delicious flavors in a pasta salad! Add some rotisserie chicken from the grocery store for a time saver and complete meal.

The Flavors of Summer Pizza

Corn, Tomato and Basil Pesto Pizza, a trio of summer flavors in every slice!

A very tasty table indeed Mary! Lovin’ the red enamelware and I think one of those bloody mary’s would be a perfect kick-off to the holiday weekend:@)

  3. August 27, 2014 at 8:16 am

Wow, you continue to amaze me, girl! The bounty of deliciousness on your table has my mouth watering! I had a constructed salad of heirloom tomato, mozzarella , red onion and cucumber with my dinner last night that was HEAVENLY! (You can see a pic on my FB page). I love your tray, the enamel plates, the rooster; everything! I love starting my morning here with you!!!!!!!

  4. August 27, 2014 at 8:21 am

What a perfect end of summer table and display Mary! I saw that tray at WM and was very tempted, it looks so fabulous surrounded by summer’s bounty and a big red rooster! I love your plate stack topped with the ceramic produce baskets…we are of like minds this week as I am posting about fresh tomato bloody marys tomorrow! It is hard to resist the beauty of summer produce especially big fat red tomatoes and fresh corn so cheap you can fill a scale full! The farmer’s market chart is so cute, I would love to have one [Alabama] in my pantry! hmmm…you have given me a great idea!

  6. August 27, 2014 at 8:37 am

Our farmers market is lush with summer bounty, and my little garden is yielding tomatoes and lettuce aplenty. How I love gathering some of what we eat from my very own garden! As always your presentation makes everything look better than good.

  7. August 27, 2014 at 8:46 am

I don’t know where to start, Mary! First of all, I’m coveting your PB quilt…sigh! The enamelware with the rooster glasses are perfect for a Farmer’s Market theme. The basket chargers are wonderful for holding all those pretty dishes. Your food is always so colorful and inspirational. I’m ready for a picnic by your lakeside table!

The details ~ the wonderful quilt, the cheerful stack of dishes and linens, the garden details on the zinc tray, the bounty of the fresh market finds, your amazing food ………you inspire me to host a party! I’m off to add some pins to my boards with this new summer table. Bravo!!!!

Mary, as always your table is just wonderful. As I have written before, the beauty of the arrangement and your choices is enhanced by your talent in photography. Every post is a visual treat. I have a question. Are the seed packets included in the setting actual packets or do you have a source for vintage seed packet art? I think those elements added a special touch. Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us. MM

  16. August 27, 2014 at 5:59 pm

I get so inspired to rush and shop every time I see one of your posts!

I have been eyeing that flatware for a while and the red berry baskets are a must have….but if I bring one more set of flatware or even one more dish into this cottage, the seams are going to burst and that will not be a pretty sight.

Maybe I need to have a gigantic yard sale and then start over…! My son keeps telling me I could stock a whole store already…

    Lovely Farmers Market Table, Mary…

Mary, I don’t think I’ve ever seen produce more artfully displayed! Thanks for putting a link to my pickled okra recipe. I need to make another batch as the okra just keeps producing, and producing, and producing. I’m glad you put a link to the resource of those seed packet cards ’cause you know I love those!!!

What a neat farmers market. I am jealous! You got a lot of loot and styled it so attractively. The flavors of summer are worth savoring. That is the prettiest corn. Just luscious. I enjoyed your tins and seed packets and the myriad of pretty elements. Your quilt is gorgeous.

  24. August 27, 2014 at 8:30 pm

This is one of my favorite tables, Mary…♥ all the gorgeous colors of the fresh produce. I have to check myself when it comes to the farmers market…I have been known to buy more than we can consume before it goes bad, even though we eat them all 3 meals in the summertime. That rooster just adds so much to the table!
    Have a wonderful week.

  25. August 27, 2014 at 8:38 pm

What a cute idea Mary! That tray with Farmer’s Market is my favorite piece here. We have a wagon tucked away that was given to our son when he was a little guy that’s just like the one on the sign. I’m pretty sure ours was probably smaller but just like it! Lol on the corn weighting to be shucked! All the vegetables look so enticing! Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

  26. August 27, 2014 at 9:04 pm

I think I’ll kick off my weekend with a Farmers Market Bloody Mary! What a cute tray from World Market ;o) Have a wonderful weekend!

  27. August 27, 2014 at 9:21 pm

What a feast for the eyes! Everything looks so fresh I can almost taste it. I don’t think you mentioned the cloth you used but I think it looks great. So many fabulous accessories!

  28. August 27, 2014 at 9:47 pm

Love all the fresh vegetables on the table, but that corn took my breath away. It looks perfect. Love the quilt as the backdrop, but the real backdrop is that view of the water! Dianne

  31. August 27, 2014 at 10:29 pm

Oh Mary, if your table doesn’t say summer, I don’t know what does. That colorful, fresh produce is a lovely sight to behold!! I have been going to local Farmer’s Markets on Saturdays since before I got married. There’s just no better place for getting fresh fruit, vegetables, and beautiful flowers. I got some of the plants that I have on my front porch there earlier this summer. I really enjoy going to the Piedmont Farmer’s Market just outside of Greensboro.

Your table is so pretty and cheerful. :) I love the berry baskets! Are they ceramic? I have ceramic ones that I got last year at Sur le Table, but I’ve packed them away and can’t remember where they are. :-D The story of my life. Your recipes look just delicious. I’m going to pin the one for pasta salad and summer pizza — thanks for sharing!

I agree with you; this summer has been the nicest one we’ve had in years. Hal and I love this weather. :) I appreciate your visit Mary, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!

O, Mary, I so look forward to every single post you do…and THIS one is a 1st Prize Winner. Best table I’ve seen in a looong time. Your talents shine thru everything you do and I just LOVE the fact that you are so sweet to share where to get some of these fun things. I am about to have a complete run-away over that tray.
One of the things I so love about your tables is the fact they are so relaxed, full of personality and never, EVER stiff. I love your style so much.

Every table you ever create just makes me drool and this one is no exception. What a fun sign for the Farmer’s Market. Your produce is beautiful and the pizza looks fabulous!
It is always such a beautiful view out your yard. Enjoy every minute!
Have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend.

  40. August 28, 2014 at 11:19 am

Mary, I love this! There are so many elements in your layers, but that little tiny wheelbarrow is theft worthy! ;-). Also love the porcelain fruit pundits on the plates. I thought I had gotten some of those, but I am not sure where they are. Maybe I bought them in my dreams. ;-)

I am a huge quilt lover and seeing this one speaks summer to me. I have become a bit of a quilt hoarder, and when you can find them at K-Mart and Walmart for $25-$35 dollars, they beg to go home as tablecloths. Yours look like an antique, and I love it!

    Great job! Happy Labor Day!

  47. August 30, 2014 at 8:28 pm

Mary, you are an artist for sure! Beautiful, beautiful! Thanks so much for taking the challenge. We are not up to Harvest time here yet, we get a late start and this year was exceptionally late. I do love going to all the farms and checking out what they have, especially down by the ocean. Something about that salt air! Maybe it makes the veggies taste better!

    Mary
I absolutely love your table settings, they are such an inspiration. I am also obsessed with almost anything to do with vegetables art especially seed packets and was wondering if your tin of seed packet post cards was a new purchase, if so could you let me know where I could purchase. Thank you and keep inspiring us, love your blog.

Just beautiful!! I love the photo of the corn on the scale. I have never seen vegetables look so fabulous!
All of your posts are gorgeous, but this one is one of my favorites! Thanks Mary for such a visual gift!!

Love this colorful and fresh tablescape! Great concept and the recipes are perfect. I’d love one of those Bloody Marys in the cute rooster mason jars later today when the temps soar into the 90s. The weighing in of the corn was priceless. Made my day and I am smiling ear to ear, pun intended!!

  51. January 5, 2015 at 2:39 pm

I have a question. Just yesterday I was searching the internet for a vintage kitchen scale. Where did you find yours and what is a reasonable price? The prices are all over the place. Thanks!!!!

    • January 5, 2015 at 5:31 pm

Hi Pinky, I found my scales from a dealer at a local antique mall. I think I paid around $25 each. I think anything under $35 is a good price for one depending on the condition :)

  52. August 11, 2017 at 5:11 pm

Your summer pizza would work very well on our dinner table especially now with corn and tomatoes at their best.
