I’m doing a little nesting and hibernating this winter.
Our weather was mild for December and turned predictably cold and blustery this week.
Good weather to stay indoors and feather your nest!
Winter Fauna salad plates, on sale at Pottery Barn after Christmas, came home with me to roost. . .
And take up residence in my Potting Shed for a little tabletop fun.
They’ve flocked together among the birdhouses for a little tabletop dining and seed buffet.
Bird ornaments have yet to migrate with all the other Christmas decorations and are roosting here for winter.
And a pair of gardening gloves is keeping flatware warm and cozy. . .
In celebration of my sixth blogging anniversary January 15th, I’m giving away a $50 gift card to one winner. . .
To your choice of Pottery Barn, HomeGoods or Amazon.
You can buy a beautiful book or bird feeder from Amazon, or feather your nest at Pottery Barn or HomeGoods.
For a chance to win, leave a comment telling me your favorite bird you like to see perched at your feeder.
Subscribers/followers automatically get a second entry. Subscribe by email or follow on Facebook and let me know by comment.
For a third entry, share this giveaway on Facebook and leave an additional comment telling me so and where you’d like your gift card from.

Our feeder is visible from our kitchen table which makes it a daily part of our dining conversation. My favorite bird to view is our woodpecker, he is diligent and amazing to watch. We also thoroughly enjoy the antics of our squirrels as they seem to be training for an upcoming Circe De Solei show.
I am new to your blog and just love all of your beautiful table settings. My favorite bird to watch at the feeder is the black-capped chickadee. They love the black-oil sunflower seed.
In Northern Wisconsin I love watching the little chickadees. They are so hardy! There in even the coldest weather, taking one sunflower seed at a time, flying to a nearby tree to eat it and back again for another.
We are six months in Florida snow birds. But I still need to see the other kind of birds, so we have a feeder in the backyard. It’s kind of bushy back there so the birds have something to hide in. I couldn’t believe it when near Christmas I saw a painted bunting! He was so spectacular, and later on I saw his mate. I needed my bird guide to identify her since she lacked the beautiful colors of the male. Such a rare treat! As are those great salad plates.
Love all things “birds”, especially dishes. You always do a beautiful job. I so enjoy viewing your posts. I love seeing the humming birds at our feeder. If you’d like you can see a sweet post I did on a bird Tea Party @ MakeItDelightful.com: Enter “Bird Tea” in “Search”. Thanks so much for sharing!
Bird watching, especially in New England in winter can be spectacular! The bleakness of winter make these gorgeous creatures stand out! There are so many favorites that visit the feeders daily and if I had to pick a favorite it would have to be the orange and black Baltimore Oriole. They are not only beautiful, but they sing the sweetest little song when they visit.
living in NJ its always nice to see the robins, then you know Spring will be here soon. but my favorite is the little yellow finches…they always come in twos, and their color is gorgeous, and they love my finch feeders and my sunflowers that I grow especially for them!!! your stuff is great!!! I wish my shed or my little hobby greenhouse looked like yours!!! I am an email subscriber, I enjoy it all…will now go onto FB and find your page. not sure why I haven’t before??? thanks again!!!
Happy 6th Blogging Anniversary, Mary! You have a wonderful blog and I enjoy it very much! My favorite bird is the robin, which growing up in Chicago, I loved to watch. I now live in the desert and unfortunately, it is too hot for them to live. On a very rare occasion in winter, I may be lucky to see one passing through, and let me tell you, it absolutely makes my heart sing! It brings back so many wonderful memories of seeing them on a daily basis!
Thanks for the opportunity to win and looking forward to many more years of enjoyment with your blog!
I love to see the cardinals at my feeders. They are such a beautiful pop of color in the snowy white landscape.
Happy Anniversary! I hope you have many more. Off to share….
I enjoy receiving your emails. My favorite bird to see at the feeder is the chickadee. My most surprising bird feeding moment was discovering five bluebirds feasting on the winterberris in my second story window box.
I LOVE these bird plates! We live in South Florida and get so many vacationing birds on their way south in winter and back home in spring. I don’t have a feeder but have planted out our yard with shrubs/trees to provide a place for them. A sort of Bird & Breakfast. 😉 I love the brilliant Yellow Warblers that visit but our year round resident chartreuse green parrots may be my favorite.
Happy Anniversary! What fun to have a potting shed. When the Blackeyed Susans go to seed the Goldfinch make their appearance and a bring smiles. Have a wonderful day!
Living on the lake as well, I enjoy seeing birds of all feathers. My favorite part of the day is what I call “rush hour”. Coots, seagulls, geese, they all seem to be busy at this time crossing paths on the water. But my favorite hands down is our resident birds of prey, the osprey and our bald eagle couple. Their sightings never get old.
I was so surprised to read that you are not allowed to have feeders.. I’m so sorry to hear that!! That’s something I will look out for if I ever have to be in a condo..hope you have other things you can enjoy!! 😍😍😍
Happy Blogging Anniversary! I love your potting shed winter tablescape, especially the bird plates! My favorite bird to see on the bird feeder are cardinals – they are not only beautiful, they were my grandmother’s favorite and seeing one always reminds me of her!
Mary,
I have 3 feeders outside my kitchen window, 2 under the deck over-hang and one outside my sink window!
I love all my birds, cardinals, sparrows, wrens, chickadees and woodpeckers and of course in the summer the hummers are my fave!
I too am a Home Goods and P/Barn girl, always love your posts, in fact I’m the one that came to your area last fall looking for something on “The Lake” because of your posts!!
If I were a bird I would want to be a cardinal nesting at your potting shed! In lower Westchester County in NY cardinals are abundant in my backyard. Thank you for the giveaway and all your lovely posts.
We are so blessed to have cardinals in our yard. I love watching the bright red Mister against the snow and pines.
There are so many wondful things on your table today. The gloves – and in my world, Pinecones are divine.
Your blog is at the top of my favorites list! You have an incredible eye for detail and arrangements. Since I live on a horse farm and have many barn cats and don’t want to tempt them, I don’t have have a bird feeder, but if I did, I would love to watch hummingbirds like my daughter has in Atlanta.
Could you tell me who makes your flatware? Adore the knife, fork and spoon engraved on them!! :)
Thank you.
Mary, your bird plates were a great find and my favorite bird is the bluebird. We see them checking out our four birdhouses, but none have taken up residence yet in five years. We’ve had tufted titmouse couples and once had a noisy house wren pair. Maybe this year the bluebirds will move in. Thanks for all your beautiful scenes and sharing your lovely dogs with us all.
Congratulations on your blogging anniversary! I have been reading for about a year and a half now and your posts always brighten my day. Carolina Wrens and Downy Woodpeckers are year-round favorites, but during the summer I love to see Painted Buntings
My favorite bird at the feeder is the chickadee. These little birds look so delicate, but hardily endure our cold NH winters, and they remind me of my mom whose face would light up whenever they came to the feeder with their cheerful “chicka-dee-dee-dee.”
My favorite is the tenacious little hummingbird during summer months, but for now – the beautiful cardinal makes me smile! And we are blessed with many.
I love to watch the cardinals since it is the Virginia state bird and quite a few other states. There are a pair that come back year after year and I wait for their return every year. I think they must have a long life span too. All the birds that I watch are beautiful though. Love them all. Hugs, Anne
My favorite feathered friends are the Blue Jays that visit my feeder. :-)
Congratulations on your blogiversary–I’ve been following for quite some time now and always enjoy a glimpse into your world!
Barbara
From Whitehall, MI, our family room is open with windows on three sides. With our snowy days, which occur often, among all the birds which visit, I love to see the pairs of cardinals against the white snow. We have a heated birdbath which now is surrounded by a lighted grapevine wreath topped with about 6″ of snow. The cardinals love to get a drink and once again, against the snow, their beauty is wonderful to see.
My favorite bird is currently wintering in the Gulf of Mexico but I’m counting the days until my hummingbird feeder is as busy as Grand Central Station. This subscriber looks forward to your posts and appreciates this giveaway.
I don’t have bird feeders, but I have many plants, bushes and trees that provide my local bird community with lots of berries and seeds to feed them throughout the winter. They especially like the coneflower seeds, and if they are really hungry , the blackeyed susans. I have blueberry viburnum whose berries never get to turn blue because they must be a delicacy, as the birds devour them. In addition to holly bushes, firebushes, flowering crabappples and Cleveland pear to mention just a few. The red of the cardinal certainly stands out this time of year, but when I do get a sighting, the brilliant blue of the bluebird is breath taking. I love shopping at Home Goods as it is always a treasure hunt, as you never know what you may discover. Thanks again for brightening my day. I really look forward to your posts.
Happy 6th Anniversary!
I love your blog and check it daily. My favorite bird is the cardinal. But my second favorite is the yellow finches, because they remind me of my dad and his bird feeders.
He would’ve been 91 yesterday. Love your potting shed. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations on “6” Years Mary!!! I have only been following a couple of years but I have gone back and read and reread each posting. Such inspiration and beautiful photography! Look forward to each email letting me know we have a new ‘story’.
My favorite bird are the Cardinals. Their color just lights up the trees and the yard. I live on a pond so I also get to enjoy the Canadian Geese and Swans.
I have posted on Facebook and Shared on my timeline this wonderful giveaway and invited all to visit your blog.
Since Home Goods and Pottery Barn are not close to me at all, Amazon gift card it is..
Thank You so much for this wonderful giveaway and for Sharing with all of us each week.
Happy Anniversary! I live in the mountains so we are never at a loss for birds (although I must confess to not knowing all the different types). However, I have a beautiful resident red cardinal that likes to hang out in my Pear tree and I do look for him every day. In the summer I love to watch for my hummingbirds as they swoop in to drink from my flower boxes on my back deck. I don’t know what it is about these tiny, delicate, colorful looking little birds that always makes me so excited to see them.
My favorite bird is the adorable Anna’s Hummingbird that frequents my feeder throughout the day. He has to tolerate a pair of much bigger Gila Woodpeckers that often perch & monopolize the nectar, but he will hover & await his turn.
Blue birds are my favorite birds to see here in Georgia. They have the most amazing color of blue. In the summer I love the hummingbirds that feed from my flower box I can sit in my rocker and they come right up to get the nectar. Fearless as I’m only a foot or so from them. Amazing to watch.
I love the goldfinches at my feeder-more muted in winter but bright yellow feathers in summer. We get a kick out of watching them go upside down on the thistle feeder to get their seeds. I follow you on Bloglovin. Would love a Pottery Barn gc. Thanks for the generous offer!
On the prairie we haven’t a variety of winter birds. During the last storm I put out extra seed and was thrilled when a lone Nuthatch appeared! What a rare sighting here! Julie W
Oh Mary, your birds nesting in the goblets are the cutest ever!! Such a cozy spot to hibernate with your feathered friends! I think Home Goods should compensate us for our constant shopping and advertising for them :) My favorite bird to espy out my kitchen window is a bright red cardinal. Congrats on your 6th blogaversary!
Jenna
The tufted tit-mouse, small but so delightful to watch. They are so airbatic as they scurry up and down the tree trunks, from right side to upside down! These skilled little feathered creatures can bring a smile to all who take time to slow down and enjoy the gifts they bring!
We have birdfeeders throughout our backyard and love to view nature’s winged beauties feasting at them.
My mother loved cardinals and I think of her often although it’s been almost three years since she passed. Each time I see a cardinal in our backyard it makes me smile, letting me know that she is watching over us. They are so beautiful!
I forgot about the giveaway because I was taken back by the comment that this lovely lady could no longer have a bird feeder at her condo.. Anyway, my favorite bird at our feeder is the yellow finch..I just love watching them flit around. I have been a follower of your blog for quite sometime and I look forward to seeing your post. That’s the first thing I look for on my email. I have gotten so many wonderful ideas and recipes from you.,thank you ever so much. CONGRATULATIONS on your blog Anniversary. I hope you have many, many more…🍾🎉❤️
Good morning, Mary! Your birdie inspired table is just so joyful! The plates, the ornaments, the birdhouses, the pretty napkins, all make for a tablescape worth tweeting about! My favorite bird to see out my window is the gorgeous and stately hawk, which is a comfort sign for me.
I already follow you by email, and I appreciate the opportunity to win your giveaway, but I’ve been a happy recipient of yours already, of which I am very thankful. Happy weekend, Mary, and congratulations on six years of blogging!
Happy Anniversary! Your posts are always a joy, I love watching hummingbirds, they never cease to amaze me. I am sharing on face book and all 3 gift card choices are perfect but I think I will go with Pottery Barn and get myself a treat! Have a wonderful day.
Congratulations on six years of blogging!!!! I look forward to your posts. As for the birds, I especially enjoy seeing the bright yellow finches. They are just so gorgeous!!! But I do love all the birds.
Your creativity, decor and photography always amaze me. I love the bird theme in this post. My favorite bird to watch outside our windows at the feeders is the cardinal, the color of the males is SO vivid it’s almost like they have a bulb inside them making them glow. The females blend in with the brown of the trees, but I just watch for the orange of their beakI love how Mother Nature created the differences in gender!
Happy Blogging Anniversary!! Although I have just started following your blog only a few months ago, I enjoy seeing all of your décor and decorating ideas. I have tried a few of the recipes that were posted – absolutely delicious and they have been added to my recipe book!! I am going to have to say that my favorite bird to watch would be the cardinal (I have heard it brings good luck). As far as a the gift card it would have to be Home Goods (love that store). Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and happy blogging!!
I collect and love o use my bird Christmas ornaments long past Christmas- all year in fact. My oldest were inherited from my mother’s collection and are whimsical and terribly precious to me. thank you for displaying yours!
Thank you, Mary, for your marvelous settings and floral inspiration. As an Indiana resident, I am partial to cardinals. It’s always a good day when I see a beautiful male cardinal. Thanks for making many days brighter with your blog.
Since our last name is Sparrow, we do have a lot of bird accessories in our house! I like to watch the Downy Woodpeckers bring their babies to the suet cakes to teach them how to eat from them. The babies are the same size but their head feathers are a little rumpled and they look like they just got out of bed!
My favorite bird is the cardinal because we have quite a few around here and their color brightens the winter landscape.I love your site and I tell all my friends to check it out. It contains all my favorites, food dishes and table decorations.
I missed you yesterday. Couldn’t wait for your beautiful post this morning. We live in the country with many trees. I love the red cardinals in the winter and the hummingbirds in the summer. I follow your blog by email and often see your beautiful pictures on Pinterest.
Happy Blogging Anniversary! It’s been a great time for your readers. This post is so timely with the time of year. This time of year has it’s serenity and beauty in the beautiful silhouettes of the bare trees but the birds give us color and joy as they stand out in the landscape.
I enjoy the Cardinals most. I recognize their sounds immediately and like seeing Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal together eating their breakfast. The Pottery Barn plates are lovely. I’m going to check and see if they have any left.
I am an email follower and follow on FB too. I would choose the Pottery Barn gift card. Thanks, Mary.
I have shared on my facebook page. I’d love the card from Home Goods…I’ve never been to this store, but I have found that there are two stores in the city nearest to me. Thank you so much for your kind generosity with this lovely giveaway!
Pick just one favorite? I love them all but seeing the cardinals brightens my day! I love seeing those cheery flashes of red. I am already a subscriber to your blog. I love seeing your gorgeous pictures, they make my day!
I follow on facebook and online and have shared your post. My favorite birds are cardinals for that glorious red color, bluebirds for their pretty song and the tiny purple and green hummingbird that joins me when I sit outside in my garden to read and sip a glass of ice tea.
Happy Anniversary Mary! Enjoying your blog so very much, especially when you share your posts of birds…the little Chickadees are a favorite of mine! I enjoy your posts with Email and Facebook. I shall share on Facebook, and Amazon would be my preference. Again, thank you Mary for your beautiful blog.
Beautiful post. My favorite to watch at the feeders are the hummingbirds and gold finches during the summer. In the winter I love to watch all my feathered friends including the chickadees, cardinals and tufted titmice. I am a subscriber. Happy Anniversary Mary!
I love you creativity and style Mary! I enjoy having a garden that attracts birds and butterfly’s. It’s hard to pick a favorite bird, but I do love humming birds! Golden finch are one of my favs as well! I subscribe to your blog via email, follow you on Facebook and Pinterest! Love your black cap chickadee plates!
Great post and displays. I am the crazy bird lady on Shumway and have multiple feeders and houses around our 20 acre property. My favorite in the winter are the cardinals, for there shocking color in our drab landscape. However, in the spring when the gold finches come out my love is fickle, and they become my favorite. Thanks for hosting this giveaway.
I love having cardinals at our feeder. They were my late mother’s favorite birds. I fill our feeder with oily black sunflower seeds so the cardinals visit us often as well as chickadees, tufted titmice, and blue jays. We received a squirrel feeder for Christmas and have nailed it to our deck. So far, no squirrels have touched it. They prefer the sunflower seeds in the bird feeder.
I love your winter birdy tablescape. I’m going to copy it and fix up a table on my indoor porch that we can see from our kitchen table, but alas, I have no pretty bird plates but will make do with what else I have. I love your blog! I love your potting shed! We enjoy the cardinals the most in northern IL and when it’s warmer, and we’re outside, we love to hear them singing. We have lots of blue spruce so we have lots of nesting places for all the birds. And it’s so exciting to see who gets to see the first robin when they come back. Thanks for the giveaway. My birthday is Jan 29 so it would make a wonderful birthday present! I look forward to your email each day and I’m heading over to facebook to friend you right now!
Oh gosh… an Amazon card would be the cat’s meow! Only because neither of the other stores are located near our town unfortunately. As for the birdie at my feeder? Well, they don’t normally feed on feeders because they are so elusive, but if they did I would most enjoy seeing a pileated woodpecker because they are so large and awesome! Thanks for this opportunity… I check and read your blog often. xo
We can see the birds feeding from our sunroom here in Tennessee. Though there are lots of birds, I think the cardinal is my favorite..the male looks so bright and beautiful against the drab background of January. Sometimes there are several cardinals in an apple tree not far from the feeder and they are such a beautiful sight.
Somehow we have attracted quail…yes quail….at our bird feeder. They are cute little things and I would attach a picture if I could figure out how. 😊 I love to watch them scurying about and their cute little song is so darling.
Happy Anniversary! I have followed your blog several years now & adore your Potting Shed! I hope to have a potting shed one day! Here in the Piedmont Triad of NC my favorite bird to see on my feeder is the Cardinal – so regal & vibrant. I like the muted female Cardinal as well! Thanks so much for the opportunity to win!
My house is full of birds! Most of them are hiding in pictures, on pillows, or masquerading as candles. But my favorite outside birds are the blue birds of happiness! I love your bird book and the matching ornament.
Such a darling table setting. I also love setting a nice theme table for a party or gathering. Red is my color, I so enjoy seeing the Cardinals…….I even smile when I see them up against the dark evergreen trees
Mary, thanks for the fun of this and of course the giveaway! A happy moment in my day is while checking my email I see a post from you. We love birdwatching at our house and by the generousity of family have a few feeders. My favorite bird is the perky little, always alert chickadee. Now on to post this to Facebook so I can use my gift card at Amazon for a gardening book.
Very generous giveaway, Mary….and I love how you’ve fluffed your little potting shed nest! LOVE cardinals…..they always make me smile whenever I see them in our backyard!
After reading Paula D’Arcy’s book, The Gift of the Red Bird, I began to notice Cardinals everywhere I go. Such special treat when they are at my feeders.
Oh, my…that’s almost like picking a favorite ch…ocolate but I’d have to say it comes back to “Crazy Ivan”…our male cardinal. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve laughed at his antics (and…does it count that is our state bird as well as the mascot of my high school daze??) :) What a perfect potting shed vignettes!! franki
I love the table! It is beautiful and reminds me of a dear friend who died several years ago. She loved birds and before she died of breast cancer, she told her friends to always think of her when we hear the birds singing. I think of her every day. She loved cardinals best, so I especially miss her when I see cardinals at my feeders.
I always smile at the cardinals that come to visit. And although they are not feeder birds, I also have a family of bluebirds that are fascinating to watch.
Cardinals are my all time favorite birds. I have made several birdseed bars this year and placed them in the yard using the recipe you featured for birdseed wreaths. I have Cardinals in the snow as a mailbox cover and several ‘chippy’ birds setting around the house. I would love to use a gift card at Amazon.
Mary, congratulations on your 6th anniversary. I absolutely love your blog! You always give me new ideas for items that I already have. Thanks for the inspiration!
Happy Sixth Anniversary! Sure wish I’d known about you all along. I have been subscribing for maybe 2 years, but try to go back through and discover what I’ve missed! My favorite bird is the Baltimore Oriole until they leave in August. Winter favorites are the woodpeckers coming for suet.
I have not seen anything you do that I have not gasped at the beauty. But a question that keeps circling my brain is where does she store all her goodies? Have you ever showed the group your storage area? I have only been following for a year, so you may have already shared with others. But do think about this question, I’m surely not the only one.
Love this post!! I live south of you on lake Wylie. My favorite birds have got to be the great blue herons. Also love the geese who look like barges on the water. Oh and the eagle. And the baby ducks in spring! I truly can’t pick one,and that’s not including the birds at feeder.
We have 3 cats who are real hunters and frequently bring in gifts, consequently we don’t have a bird feeder to aid them. If we did, I would so love to see cardinals feeding in my birdfeeders. Alas, in Montana that is not a reality.
Good Morning. I love all songbirds for their plumage, grace and pluckiness. I feel fortunate that I see chickadees, nuthatch, juncos, tufted titmouse, goldfinch and a very occasional cardinal. But I get really excited when I see the downy and pileated woodpeckers show up in the winter. I make sure I have suet available for these strong, beautifully plumed birds. Thanks for asking!!
I live in an apartment and cant have seed feeders but I do have Hummingbird feeders. Me and my cats love watching them buzz around in the morning on our patio.
My birds come to my pond to drink from the fountain. I love the Cardinals, Jays and Mockers, but my favorite is the little Carolina Wrens that sometimes build their nest in my hanging basket by the backdoor. Tried to get the bird plates, but seem to be sold out. LOVE your blog!
My favorites to see and watch are the yellow finches. I loved this special post because I love birds and my deck backs up the the Chattahoochee Preserve. I get lovely birds but there is something so joyful to look out and see the sweet finches. I also loved your idea of putting utensils in the potting gloves. You are so creative!!
Mary, Six years is fantastic, congratulations. My husband and I spend the winter in Florida. Our condo here is on the St. Lucie River and we just love watching the birds hunting and diving for fish. I love how very patient the brown pelicans are as the wait for a meal to show up. The remainder of the year we spend in North Carolina where we enjoy watching all kinds of birds in our garden but my very favorite is a pair of Cardinals who visit every year.
We have multiple feeders on our porches, with one outside our kitchen window. I love to see the downy woodpeckers that perch on the suet feeder. All the birds are a joy to see.
I have several feeders in my yard along with houses for them.
I love the winged birds, chickadees, woodpeckers, tufted titmouse, finches, doves. They all make their own music that I love to hear.
A winning gift card to any of the mentioned would be wonderful.
Happy birding.
I love all the birds that visit either of the two feeders in our yard. I will say that spotting a gorgeous blue bird is always a special treat. I put a blue bird house up two years ago and so far, other birds have moved in but none are blue! I keep hoping though!
Thank you for your amazing blog – I study it religiously for inspiration and enjoyment!
Mary, it’s been going on 2 years since I discovered your post. You have been blessed with a wonderful talent. I,like many other readers look on my email first to seen if you have a new post. I absolutely love the bird plates. We have no Pottery Barn or Home Goods near by, both are in Chicago about 150 miles away. I have always had a Thistle and suet feeder out,but this year I added a seed cake. I now have Cardinals and Blue Jays visiting several times a day in addition to the Nuthatches, Finch, Dove, Tit-Mouse and my 2 different sized Woodpeckers. So hard to pick my favorite love all of Gods creations. Give a treat to your 2 furry pals from me.
Happy 6th Anniversary! Beautiful displays as always. Love the bird plates and the utensils in the gloves. I love watching the Cardinals and blue Jays at the feeders. Even though the Blue Jays can be a little mean to the other birds, they are a beautiful bird. I always have loved cardinals. You are an Inspiration!
I read your posts and immediately want to get the same look! So I troll all the sites you mention and do find some goodies! You are an inspiration! I love seeing the cardinals out in the snowy yard. They are a very welcome sight!
Thanks for the giveaway, Mary. I love those adorable salad plates. Alas, there is no Pottery Barn or Homegoods within 50 miles of me. So Amazon would be great! I have been a long time subscriber and follow on Facebook as well. You always amaze me with your creativity!
What a sweet table setting. I made your macaroon wreaths three times during the holidays for various parties. They were a big hit…so festive looking. I think I will try making them in a heart shape for Valentine’s Day as they work out well for my gluten-free friends. The city is clearing out the dead brush near my house. I hope they don’t chase all of the birds away. I love seeing little California Wrens and young Doves eating and bathing.
Last year we put up several bird feeders for the first time and love watching them, especially the hummingbirds. I would love to see some cardinals but, unfortunately, we live in the Pacific Northwest. But I have seen several Tanagers in my yard and they are gorgeous.
What a lovely tablescape! Your china looks fantastic with the bird napkins rings and gloves! Your blog is such a lovely place to visit! I adore your potting shed! I am such a fan of birds and their houses; my husband says they eat better than we do. Thank you for hosting this wonderful giveaway!
CongratUlations on 6 years of inspiring so many! Such a generous give away too! We don’t have many birds here in winter, plenty of deer though! In the warmer months I love seeing the Cardinals visit. Love your fun table! We had a few cold days but today it will warm up to near 50 and I intend to walk down to the beach and enjoy it, and then go to Home Goods, my fave, for some retail therapy! Have a great weekend, Mary!
Just beautiful! Not my favorite bird, however I am saying my cardinal who I see every morning at my bird feeder. Looking out my kitchen window he greets me every day. I named him Harold last year. “HARK THE HEARALD ANGEL SING” Harold reminds me of Hearald which reminds me of Jesus and His love for us!!!
Hi Mary,
I love all of your potting shed posts. I hope to have a shed of my own some day. Maybe this is the year…. :)
My favorite bird is the hummingbird but they are gone for the winter in Washington. My second favorite are the Robins, not ones for perching at the bird feeder but for me the beginning of the garden season. Thanks for your wonderful blog.
Cardinals are my favorite bird. I have several prints by Anne Worsham Richardson (Bird’s Eye View studio in Charleston, SC – I have read that you visit Charleston a few times a year. I think you would enjoy her shop/studio -assume it is still open.) I follow and enjoy your posts on FB. Love Pottery Barn – Thanks.
Love those plates! I have Bluebirds that are visiting my feeder right now. This is a first, as I have never seen them in the past. I started using a mix of seed that has dried meal-worms in it, so guess that might be what they are after. It seems that both the male and female travel together, for they are giving me a lot of eye candy these days.
I would like to get an Amazon card should I be the winner!
Also, I subscribe to your daily posts….and enjoy every one of them!
Happiest of anniversaries, Mary!! I am so happy I found your site almost two years ago…I love watching the hummingbirds out our bay window…but all things with birds featured are so lovely! I will share your post on Facebook and would love to win a gift card from Amazon! Have a wonderful day and thank you for this great fun opportunity!
We feed birds at our Huntington Beach, CA home and our Big Bear mountain cabin. We enjoy a verity of birds…my favorites are (mountain) chickadee and (city) hummingbirds!
I know Bluejays are supposed to be bullies but they are so beautiful especially in winter when it snows. They gather on a nearby tree and look like Christmas ornaments.
The Cardinals are my favorite bird to see at the feeder or in our bushes. I believe because they were my Mother’s favorite, that is why I love them so much. I really enjoy your posts and seeing all your pretty dishes , accessories and arrangements. You have a wonderful talent and are an inspiration!
Hi Mary, I love your January Blues header today! So gorgeous! And your table with the birdhouses and all the little birdies is so inviting. I am wondering if it is cold in the Shed? I can imagine walking along your lake then going in for some munchies and a warm toddy! There are always so many things to talk about with your photos that sometimes I just start dreaming (or click a tempting link to a previous post) and don’t even know where to begin! Like today, I want to tell you that I have a little brass bell EXACTLY like the one near the edge of the jute runner (another of my favorites which I always notice!) which was given to me by Secret Santa in college, and I’m thinking about that friend now! I so very much appreciate all your 6 years of amazing and entertaining posts. As for my favorite birds, I don’t want them to hear me say this, but I was very excited (and a bit worried) to see two bluebirds last week! We have a large flock of goldfinch for the first time, three types of woodpeckers, and the other usual northeastern birds. I watch for them all each day. Here’s to another six (or more) years of inspiration from you! Linda
I would have to say that my favorite are the busy little Chickadees! Of course the fact that my Grandmother use to call me her “Little Chickadee” when I was very young may have something to do with it! She had a small home in Wisconsin…it had a huge yard and she had beautiful flowers of all kinds, zinnia, gladiolus, iris and lots of tomato plants. She also loved her feathered friends and she nestled in her birdbath and feeders. The chickadees were the most prevalent and I loved their markings and how they flitted about from feeder to feeder and splashed in the little birdbath. It was peaceful and serene and I loved being there. That was many years ago now and I have picked up where she left off with her flowers and bird feeders and birdbaths scattered all over my yard. I miss her very much but her legacy lives on…..
I just love your photos your blog is an inspiration to start each day.
Thank you.
I love birds, especially the robin, which is also my little sister’s name. Bird nests with eggs are sooooo charming, I have a few nests with eggs around the house – gives it an earthy touch.
I love reading Home is Where the Boat Is for inspiration, for the home and for the heart.
What a charming post, but then that is a common reward when visiting your blog. I am a follower both on friends connect and by email and I feel that I have already won . . . I’m taking home some stunning ideas to incorporate into my potting shed. Thank you for the opportunity to win this very gracious gift.
Keep Smiling!
Connie :)
What a beautiful post. I love love love your blog. I do put all kinds of of food out for wild life in my yard, Talking about birds though, I love the Meadow Lark. Their sweet song lifts your spirits.
It is hard for me to choose, I love them all. I love sitting at my kitchen table and watch them on my feeders. I suppose if I have to choose a favorite right this minute, it would be a Cardinal. It is so rainy and grey this morning, that beautiful red breaks through and brightens my day.
Mary, I love the use of the gardening gloves–great idea! Have you tried Droll Yankee bird squirrel-proof bird feeders? They actually work. I got one after I almost shot a workman on my deck with a BB gun because I thought he was a squirrel The birdfeeders are expensive but cheaper than a lawsuit. LOL!!
I enjoy getting your emails and following you on Facebook. My neighbor and I both feed the birds and I love seeing them all! I think my favorite is the Chickadee. They are just so darn cute! If I win, I’d love the gift card from HomeGoods. I always find way too many beautiful things there.
This time of year seeing a brilliant red cardinal against the dull brown and gray winter colors of the landscape makes me smile. In the spring, though, the goldfinch have to be my favorites–they are so cute and colorful. Would love a gift card to Amazon. Love your tablescapes and potting shed ideas. You have inspired me to do a few things to mine.
Congratulations on your 6th blogging anniversary.!! Today’s post is a beautiful tribute to our feathered friends who bring absolute joy year round. My favorite bird is the chickadee. I just went back to a former post and copied your recipe for bird seed ornaments. Thank you, Mary, and have a great day!
Love your blog – my favorite of all of them! My favorite bird is the Red Bird. I lost my brother 3 years ago at age 62 (way to early) and every time I see a red bird it reminds me of him! I always smile and say hello sweet brother! Life is so short and we must always find beauty in all of God’s creatures and each other! Thanks for sharing a beautiful part of you! All the best to you in this New Year!
Hi Mary! First of all I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog and seeing your pictures. I’m continually amazed at your creativity and love the recipes you choose to share and your gorgeous presentations of each.
It’s hard to pick a favorite winter bird at my feeders but, I do particularly love the house finches with their touch of crimson and the beautiful cardinals.
I live in the Great Pacific Northwest and we have so many interesting birds around here. My favorite is the Stellar Jay; an intelligent, curious bird that is always entertaining. I am a long time follower on your blog and on FB.
My son put a birdfeeder on top of a metal shed in our back yard. It draws all kinds of birds and a very chubby squirrel. I just love him , he has some sass. I really enjoy your blog – excellent photography and very creative decorating that inspires me. Thanks you!
As an avid bird watcher for a long time, my dad got me into that! I love all birds that come to my feeder. I especially love the Sparrow! I always think about the song “Eye on the Sparrow” And I feel especially close to God at that time! I would love a Homegoods card to “feather my nest”! Thank you for this opportunity and always the beautiful presentations!
Sharing your post on FB. Win or lose, I have to tell you that I so enjoy the visits to the potting shed. Love your style. So fun and it makes me smile when I find your posts in my email box.
We have sparrows, mourning doves, Mexican doves, woodpeckers, an occasional cardinal, and, of course squirrels, but, a few years ago because of forest fires in the Bastrop Tx area, Baltimore orioles were apparently driven off their migratory path and we had dozens in our backyard for several weeks. Just beautiful, beautiful birds. Love the tablescape as usual.
I like cardinals and golden finches the best. But I’m happy when any bird is on our feeder because we have two cats that love to watch them and it makes me happy when they are happy. (I am a blog follower also.)
Love your blog and love my birds too! My favorites would have to be the Mountain Bluebirds that share the seed with the comical California Quail. (They actually scatter the seed for the quail at the bottom of the feeder….fast friends they are!)
I was so excited to find your site a few months ago! You always bring back a memory of someone or something I love and for that I THANK YOU! I live in the Foothills of NC so I have lots of birds that visit but my Favorite is the Nuthatch bc he goes head first at all of his adventures and my 2 year old Grand daughter does as well so they both bring a smile to my face and warmth to my Heart! So keep up the Great work that you share with us and Thank you again! I receive your blog by Email.
Happy blog anniversary! I love your photography, it’s absolutely lovely. My favorite bird is the charming chickadees, I’ve been following your blog for the past 18 months or so and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I follow by email and any gift card would be great!
Enjoy the cardinals, but I could sit and watch them for hours. I have 4 feeders outside my sunroom under the trees and boy do the birds have a feast!!! I follow you on fb and subscribe via email! Love the cardinal plates from PB. Thanks for sharing!
I love seeing all the birds, but feel especially fortunate when I see a Downy woodpecker at my suet feeder. A highlight of my day is seeing your posts – especially when it’s “In the Potting Shed”. They have inspired me to try new decorating on my front portch. Thank you!!!
The salad plates are lovely! Since I have not been in Home goods for some months, I would love the gift card to go there. I am a Facebook and email subscriber. Enjoy a cozy winter. I am still getting settled!
Another post of your’s that I have so enjoyed! Bird watching at my feeders is an enormous daily pleasure. Besides my hanging feeders I fill a birdbath with various seeds and it attracts squirrels and as I live in a high mountain there are lots of deer stopping by for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Stellar Jays are my favorite birds..Thanks so much for the many beautiful table settings and scenes you share with us.
Happy Anniversary! I so enjoy your blog. I am part of a monthly tea group and I find great inspiration from your beautiful photos. My bird feeders are very busy this time of year in Northern Maine. A favorite? A tie between the cardinals and woodpeckers.
Chickadees are my favorite -they tell the other birds when its safe to come to the feeder. I want an Amazon gift card to buy a new bird feeder and a self warming cat bed. I already follow your terrific blog by email.
Mary Happy 6th Anniversary blogging, always look forward to your postings. In the mornings my husband and I watch from the kitchen table window busy little nuthatches, they swoop in, are everywhere on the large Rockrose bush on the other side. So agile, flitting from one branch to the next, upside down, all around…they are quick and then are gone.
Love your tablescape-so beautiful. My favorite bird to see is a flicker. I don’t see them often, but it is a thrill when I spy one. I also love the cardinals.
My husband and I always await the arrival of the first goldfinch here in Washington state. Their bright yellow feathers cheer us up after the long rainy winter. Our kitties enjoy watching them too :)! Happy Anniversary Mary – I just love your blog posts – so fun and whimsical!
My backyard bird feeder is an active spot for Los Angeles area birds and some that pass by seasonally. One of the locals is an Oak Titmouse who always waits until the feeder is unoccupied and then quickly swoops in to select one special seed from the bird feeder and then quickly retreat to a nearby tree to enjoy the treat.
I would love to win in your give away! Happy Blogiversary sweetie! My favorite bird at my bird feeder are Hummingbirds! Such powerful little creatures! Hugz Lisa and Bear
What a lovely giveaway! I enjoy birds at my feeder so much but if I had to pick a favorite it would probably be the perky little black capped chickadees! :)
I so enjoy your blog, which I get via email. I live in the northern suburbs of Chicago, and we have such wicked winters around here that my neighbors and I make extra efforts to keep our bird feeders full. The Canada geese have just departed, which makes it somewhat quieter, but our local woodpecker is trying to fill that void. He is a favorite, but the blue jay who only stops by occasionally is by far my very favorite.
I actually don’t have a feeder up. Haven’t figured out where to put one in my little patio space. I do, however, have a bird bath that sees a lot of visits from feathered friends. I love watching all birds and can’t pick a favorite! :-)

Beautiful plates, Mary! Don’t put me in the drawing, though. Let someone else win it.
I just wanted to tell you birds may no longer be so cute to me!!! Would you believe a hawk flew right through the large screen into the gazebo & got trapped inside? I opened the door & laid down bread pieces, trying to entice it out. Two full hours went by & it didn’t touch the bread, but it was flying into all the other screened areas, trying to get out. STUPID BIRD!!!
I finally put on Ernie’s black hoodie, tied it tight around my head, then held a big yellow bath towel up in front of me to try to chase him around to the door. It worked!
I just spent an hour cleaning up bird poop off my beautiful brand new canvas table/chair cover!!!! All the years Ernie used crappy blue plastic tarps that took 2 people to fasten with tie-down straps, this never happened. The FIRST time I get to use the expensive $$$ cover & it shit all over it…and the floor!
I scrubbed the floor on my hands & knees & flushed everything with buckets of water that I carried across the kitchen floor, because the water has been turned off to the outside faucets for the winter.
I’ve read that birds flying into the house represents death of a loved one or bad luck.
I wanted to yell after him that he was a year late!!!
I love feeding the birds year round! I currently have 8 feeders. And two heated birdbaths. Living in the Rocky Mountains at 7,000 feet, limits the types of birds that I have in the winter. And though I love all types of birds, in the winter I enjoy seeing the sharp tailed grouse. It is not uncommon for us to have several here at one time. And it has turned out, that we have a lek; a mating area for them. Such a privilege to watch and observe their habits.
I have had a cardinal family straight out from my patio for the last 17 years. They sing to me all the time. BEAUTIFUL!!!! The babies are always adorable!!!!
I read your posts and never leave without inspiration and ideas. Congratulations on your 6th anniversary. I’m from St Louis and my favorite bird is of course a Cardinal !! Thank you for a chance to win the giveaway.
I love to see our Iowa state bird, the Goldfinch. They are so petite and the males are such a bright yellow in the summer but a bit dull in the winter like their female counterparts. They are a bit rare these days but hope to see more in the Spring. Beautiful post today, as usual.
I love watching the birds at our feeder, I love them all. The goldfinches are so pretty in summer, and we have the Carolina Wren too. There are nuthatches and titmouse, woodpeckers and cardinals. We have juncos in the spring. I just made them a homemade suet cake for their feeder, first to find it was the Carolina Wren.
Love your winter bird table setting. You have the touch!
After this past year I have to say my favorite bird is the humming bird. We had a mama build a nest on a low branch and had the joy of watching her raise 2 babies. That was something. In her honor we upgraded our feeder. So fun!
Thanks for being so generous to us. I still make your buffalo meat balls you posted for super bowl one year.
Mary,
Yours posts are so inspiring! Birds…love them all, almost. The hummingbird in the warmer months and the cardinal in the colder ones are the
head turners. Early spring makes me watch the yard close for the return of the Robins! A close friend and I have a contest to see the first one :) I am a follower .
I love reading all of your posts and especially delight in your creative tablescapes and recipes! Living on a lake and in the woods of NJ, we can only feed birds during the winter months; due to the bear roaming the area. Bear love the seed and local wildlife regulations prohibit bird feeders from March to December. However my favorite daily sightings are of the Swan couple that live near the lake. They are magnificent beauties, gliding along in the water or waddling over the ice when the lake is frozen. We have been blessed for several years in the springtime, when the swans have had their cygnets and bring them onto the lake. Fluffy little greyish cygnets bobbling on the water, until they tire out and mom swan opens her wings. Then the little ones climb up and under her wings and they float back home. This is a blessed gift from mother nature indeed.
Mary, this was the first post I read this morning and it’s taking me this long to get back to you – tgif. Congratulations on your 6 year mark – your blog is one of my favorites and I just love this tablescape. Thanks for the chance of your giveaway. My favorite bird at the [black oil sunflower] feeder in winter is the cardinal, hands down. It is our state bird, and I love the symbolism of a visitor from heaven when one is sighted.
Another comment for the fact that I am following by email – now. I always followed with my reading list on my blogger dashboard, but now I’ll get them in email, too. Thanks again for the opportunity. Have a great weekend.
What a wonderful way to celebrate 15 years and thank you for giving one of us a gift. I live on Towhee Lane in southern California. When we moved, I found out that a Towhee is an indigenous bird to our area. That being said, my favorite feathered friend is the humming bird. We have several that visit us every day. They are fun to watch. I love your creativity. I look forward to your posts everyday. Thank you.
Whew..it took me a while to scroll down through the comments!!! :) …. Happy 6th Blogaversary Mary!…Six years of great inspiration and friendship!….So hard to pick a favorite as I just love all birds…but have to say the Cardinal … The NC State bird…and then right behind that would be the Chickadee…just love that name!!!
Congratulations on your 6th anniversary, Mary! Your followers are very lucky to have you. I subscribe to your blog and follow you on Facebook. We have several feeders and love all birds, but cardinals are my favorite. If I’m lucky enough to win, Pottery Barn would be perfect!
My favorite bird to see during the winter is the cardinal because they were my dad’s favorite. I did spot a painted bunting at our feeder just once but have not been fortunate to see it again. It is a good thing that there is not a PB located in Florence or I would not have been able to resist those salad plates! I shared your generous giveaway on FB and I follow by email. Congrats on 6 years of creating loveliness for the rest of us!
Mary, I absolutely love seeing the cardinals in the winter. . . they brighten up the drab winter with their beautiful red feathers! Even the females have enough red/brown to take notice. . . especially when it snow!
I can’t list just one because I have two ABSOLUTE favorites!! I love Cardinals, of course, they mate for life and are such a joy to watch. They are amazing parents too! And my second favorite would be hummingbirds!! I am fascinated by their tiny size and beautiful colors!! I always have several hummingbird feeds available in the spring/summer.
.To me, nothing can compare to bluebirds! It was only as an adult that I first saw a bluebird up at Lake Junaluksa in Haywood County, NC. Love their brilliant color and sweet songs. Of course, second choice would be the beautiful cardinal.
Thank you for the giveaway opportunity. I love seeing blue bird and blue jays. Love their coloring. Also love your blog…look forward to reading it everytime I get a post.
Cheers and Carry On!
Carol
My husband and I still talk about a fleeting moment in nature that we witnessed together. We were walking around a conservation area, where birds stay and feed over winter. That place seemed magical with the hoar frost hanging everywhere in the -20F morning. We were heading back towards the bridge, to an area that opens up, like a natural amphitheatre with an expanse of water on either side. The sun was shining through, sparkling and highlighting the muskrat dens and reeds that were poking through the ice.
We had just set foot on the bridge, when the words spilled out of our mouths at same time “what’s that noise?”. Two large white swans appeared, as out of nowhere, flying over our heads, not more than ten feet above us and over the water and gone, just as quickly as they had appeared.
Cardinals during the winter, and yellow finches during the summer. I love bluebirds, but have not been successful drawing them to our property in town. I’m new to your blog, but can already tell it will become a favorite of mine. Best to you and yours in 2016. Pat
Happy 6th Blog Anniversary, Mary!!! I So love seeing your blogs in my email. That Potting Shed is always decorated so pretty. I love those bird plates. I will have to say I love seeing the red cardinals even though all birds are pretty to watch. I keep my bird feeders filled and fresh water for the little birdies because they give me smiles!
Wow! Never seen sooo many comments For your blog! I guess the giveaway flocks them to your blog! Ha! Anyway! I always look forward to your blog! Love the bird gloves!!! As always! Perfect decorating!! I love to shop at TJ HomeGoods!! I think it’s the best variety and you can’t beat the prices!!! Oh! Ps!! Love the birdseed in the teacup! Simply charming!
Hi Mary,
Happy anniversary and many more!! Bluebirds and quail at the feeders.
I enjoyed a walk today in the snow and was delightfully surprised to see Canadian Geese, ducks, mallards and large white ducks marching up the trail from a hidden pond and creek and by luck got it all on video. wish there was some way I could show it to you, such a rare sight. Following you a couple years, read, and reread, posted many times, as you and your posts, and recipes are such an inspiration
\
I love to see the juncos. I don’t actually see them at the feeder, but below it. They are foraging for the seeds that land on the ground. Such cute little birds…black on top with white underbelly and sides. I only see them here in the winter. They look so plump to me…I just want to scoop them up and pet them. Ha! Love your post….I call myself a bird nerd…I enjoy watching all the birds at my feeders.
The bird plates look great with the plaid Mary! Glad you’ve been staying warm, I hear there’s even a chance of flurries for the Carolina game tomorrow! My favorite bird of all time were gold finches, they came to the garden one year for the zinnia and sunflower seeds-very cute. Thanks for the fun give-away:@)
When I see the bright red cardinal against a winter landscape, I know my guardian angel is close by. When I see the giant red-headed woodpecker at the suet, I think of “the wise old man.” I laugh when my nosey house wren comes out from under the lawn furniture screeching for attention. To choose one is to live half a life. Enjoy all Gods creatures to the fullest. :)
My favorite bird at my feeder is only around a short time in Minnesota summers. They are the Baltimore Orioles. Early in May, I dust off my orange jelly feeder, make a trip to the grocery store for grape jelly & fill it up in anticipation for my beautiful orange birdies! The neat thing about them, is that you hear them first before they come to the feeder. I often have the parents bring their babies to the feeder, watching the parents put jelly in their babies mouths is joy to watch. It is said that the same couple comes back to the same area and sets up their domain. I’m happy they have chosen my yard as their summer retreat!
Mary, I’m thinking my favorite bird will not qualify, as it could not fit on either of my 2 feeders. It is the American Bald Eagle. I am “Lucky Enough” to live on the side of a hill overlooking a River and at this time of the year it is mostly frozen. The Bald Eagles come through periodically looking for food. They are the most amazing, majestic bird I have ever seen. It stirs my heart and fills me with pride that our forefathers chose this bird as a symbol for the United States of America. When I am lucky enough to see them soar by, I can’t imagine a better symbol of Freedom.
Cardinals are my favorites but……..chickadees. gold finches, wrens and all their friends are also welcome and I remind myself that even the starlings need to eat………
We have 3 feeders visible from our kitchen bay window. We have cardinals by the truck loads and they are beautiful, but we get giddy when we see a painted bunting on our feeders.
I enjoy feeding all birds at my feeders but the beautiful bright cardinal brings a pop of color in dreary winter. I have loved your blog via email for two years and have read from your archives also. Thanks so much for sharing.
Congratulations! Thus is such a sweet post~I’ve always loved birds. I watched them as a little girl growing up in Wisconsin & I’m still watching them in Massachusetts! I, of course, love the beautiful colors of the cardinals & bluebirds but I have to say my favorite are the little nut hatches. We had a little nest of them last spring & they brought me such joy. So sweet!
Keep up the wonderful posts~we all treasure reading them!
Hey Mary – happy Saturday! Love all the birdies – even the hawk. Felt really bad for Rettabug – but glad he got out of her gazebo without damage to himself. (Sorry she had to do so much cleaning). Love the chic-a-dee for it’s sweet little body, cute black cap and delightful song; Love the Cardinal for it’s brilliant red coat against the white snow. Also love how Mr. Cardinal always gives Mrs. Cardinal a seed and places it right in her beak! What a gentleman! Busy today organizing things in the basement, but will soon be making my gingerbread bird house that you inspired – can’t wait to get started. Happy 6th delightful, inspirational years – so glad I’m an avid fan! Would love to get a new heater for the birdbath at Amazon! :)
I love the hummingbirds who thrill me all summer, but here in northern IL, seeing our snow-covered yard & feeders covered with beautiful Cardinals is such a delight!
I am a follower & subscriber, because your beautiful blog & exquisite photography is always a highlight of any day! Thank you for sharing your talents & the chance to win a gift card to Pottery Barn!
Chickadees, of course. Congrats. I love the bird salad plates but those plaid plates make everything pop. I was curious to know if your potting shed has heat. Sweet display again. I hope I am enough inspired to at least get out the good china for dinner. Thank you mucho.
Mary, our garden shed is almost done and you have been a huge inspiration for it. I enjoy our variety of birds around here also, at last count I’ve identified over thirty, but I think the Western Bluebird has to be my favorite. I have about twenty bluebird houses out and looking forward to this spring.
I made an earlier comment but did not pick my favorite bird which is the cardinal. I have to admit that I am a big bird fan. I was so taken with your tablescape and love the mix of bird houses, cup bird feeder and bird plates I missed the favorite. Jean
Love this blog of yours, I look forward to it and read it so detailed every time you post. Our bird feeder is right out side our kitchen window, like so many others, we love all the birds but the male cardinal is my favorite, that red is just beautiful.
I have been following your blog for almost two years now and look forward to all your wonderful recipes and ideas. Everything is beautiful and inspiring! Thank-you!
My Husband and I love watching the birds at the feeders in our yard and are always looking for the next place that “must have” a feeder!
I especially love the little Black Capped Chickadees. They are so tiny and plump and share the feeders well with their other feathered friends. Admittedly, I also get a rush of excitement later in the winter when we get our first glimpse of electric blue on the Eastern Bluebirds lighting on the hedgerow! So lovely!
Thank-you for inspiring us all and sharing your gifts!
We are blessed to have many birds..at the feeder would be hummers..but am trilled to get wild parrots, wood Crain and pink I is now and then!
Thanks Vickie V.
Congrats too..I am an old time, existing follower on Facebook..your vignettes are always so pretty. I have pinned quite a few pictures.
Thanks
Vickie V
I have two hummingbird feeders and love watching those colorful little hummingbirds, summer and winter! Where I live, we have (only) one hummer that stays through the winter, the Anna.
I am a fairly new subsrcriber and so enjoy your blog. My husband and I live in a log home which we built 3 years ago. We are now building a log potting shed and have drawn such beautiful inspiration from yours. My favorite bird would have to be the cardinal. They are such a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us.
Without a doubt my favorite birds to watch at my feeder are the bright and cheery cardinals. Here in my Alabama winter woods, their bright red color offers a cheery hello against the grays and browns of the trees. I have counted as many as eight or nine gathering for their daily treats and chatter!
Happy anniversary, Mary! I share your love for birds. My favorite to see at our feeder is the pileated woodpecker – he looks almost prehistoric. I’d like to win an Amazon gift card. I subscribe by email. Thanks for this giveaway opportunity!
Congratulations on your blog anniversary! Your post is delightful and I got several good ideas I’ll want to use in the future with my garden club. I would love to see a cedar wax wing or a tufted titmouse at my bird feeder.
Thanks for a great blog – Happy Blogversary! I love seeing cardinals at our feeder even though they are few and far between. I would love to win a Home Goods card!
I never tire of seeing the bright red Cardinals at my feeder. They certainly brighten a winter day!
I love your potting shed decorating! I like finding beautiful affordable dishes at HomeGoods.
Love this post with the bird plates. I love to see a cardinal at my feeders. The red pops against the white landscape and looks so picturesque! I’d love a card from Home Goods since I enjoy their store so much.
Here on the southwest coast we are treated to yellow finishes, robins, and a flock of parrots that has just returned. Yes, parrots! I’m sure these originated from a pet parrot that escaped and has quoted successfully multiplied. Love the plates and the table Mary, Happy New Year🐦
Your bird salad plates are beautiful. The colors are brilliant in the pictures. The cardinals have just shown up in our yard last week. Always enjoy them. I question all of the time…….where do you store all of your linens, flatware, napkin rings, plates, chargers, table decor, etc.? Thanks for your inspiring tablescapes. Always beautiful.
Though woodpeckers can do significant damage, I always love to see the red-headed woodpecker in our yard! They are fantastic creatures. Also love see the little wrens. Thank you for sharing such a lovely blog. I love seeing all you share here. Finding your email is always a delight! And thanks for the chance to win a great giveaway Pottery Barn gift card.
Holy smokes, this has to be my most favorite post of yours ever…..and that’s saying a LOT because your pics are always so WOW…but a bird themed tablescape – be still my heart! ♥♥♥ birdies!!!
I am a follower, so there’s that. My home, business and blog is called FINCH REST – so I would have to say they’re my favorites to have come around to any one of my 7 feeders. I enjoyed watching a male and female cardinal this morning, that’s our State Bird, and Chickadees are so cute they melt my heart. My favorite one these past two summers were chubby little bluebirds, but they always seems to fall victim to preying flier birds. Makes me cry every single time. I even posted about it a long while back.
As for the stores you are asking me to choose between my three favorite stores of all time, yikes. If given only one I will just say HomeGoods because I need so much there. Thank you very much for the generous giveaway! : – )
Thank you so much for the giveaway chance. I am and have been always your follower.
Your table is simply gorgeous with the bird plates and all your small bird houses vignette.
I love birds and everything pertaining. I too did a couple of birds nesting in my last tablescape.
Cardinals are one of the prettiest and you can find them a lot in Winter time.
Have a lovely week.
FABB
My favorite birds to watch is a pair of Painted Buntings, the reason bring that they were also my mom’s favorite. We would watch them from her bedroom as they say in her lemon tree. And while my lemon tree is too far from my window, grandchildren are learning to watch for and observe them at the glass doors by the feeder and bath. Wish Great-grandma could watch and enjoy with them!
I want to thank you for all of the work you put into your blog. I have been a follower for years. You are one talented gal. I love watching little wrens and also cardinals.
Your bog is always so beautiful! my favorite winter bird at my feeder is the cardinal. If there’s no food in the feeder they complain to me when I come out! I love HomeGoods for a gift card too. Thank you!
I am loving’ those plans dishes!! As much as I love all of your birds, my Nana’s superstitions come back to mind – she said “birds in a home are bad luck”, so I just can’t bring myself to bring any birds in, silly, huh?
I do believe my favorite bird for the winter is Mr and Mrs Red Cardinal. Their brillant color stands out amoung the branches of the trees and the feeders. I love the fact that they are together for life…just like a good marriage!
LOL, after scrolling half way to —Hehockey sticks…found myself thinking “I love this post” so does the rest of the world…had to scroll back up and see what I missed….OH give away…LOL.
Anyways—-thank you for the trip to your potting shed—I so miss all my bird views from the back porch (it’s 0 here!), and all my bird/accessories, houses, etc. SO THANKS for that—and please enter me in the freebie…LOL.
Oh, I am so silly about the yellow finches which come through in the Spring of the year. Part of the yard is left to allow the dandelions to seed & aren’t they just adorable eating the fuzzy sprouts !!! I have an email coming to my school address, so possible lunch escapes are enjoyed so much. I do follow you on Facebook & Pinterest ..Such a relaxing time..”visiting” your potting shed!!! Thank you !
I enjoy watching goldfinch from our table at our kitchen window. We have an upside down thistle feeder and the goldfinch are the only ones able to hang upside down to feed. Other birds will try but don’t have the ability to hang upside down. It’s fun to watch them try. Occasionally, a chickadee will be able to but they don’t have the stamina to stay for very long.
Love everything about your site – especially the gloves holding the silverware. Cute touch!
We have several feeders outside our breakfast room bay window, so we are blessed with many birds. Living in the south we have quite a variety. My favorite though would be the blue birds who visit often.
I recently started following your blog after I found pictures of your potting shed on Pinterest. It is one of my favorites that I’ve seen. Congrats on your anniversary and thanks for the opportunity to win a nice gift. The cardinals are my favorite at the feeder and I must say I am quite partial to the handsome males!
All the songbirds are beautiful, but my favorite is the cardinal. It always gives me a thrill to see one in a tree or bush, especially in the winter when everything is brown.
We love watching the Titmouse with their cute pointed black “hats” as well as the Scrub Jays, which look like overgrown dusty blue jays! I love those plates and the whole garden shed theme. Especially like your idea with the garden loves. So clever!
Mary, Thanks for the giveaway chance! my favorite birds to see in the winter are the cardinals — the pop of color against the leafless trees is refreshing & makes me smile. I also love the yellow finches & sweet plump bluebirds at other times of the year. I love your blog & follow you on Facebook as well. I will share the giveaway post on FB.
We have a brand new HomeGoods opening very soon just about 9-10 miles from us—- I am beyond excited!!!! I expect to walk in & browse with an eye for the tabletop like you do! Thank you!!
We have quite a few bird feeders. We love our feathered friends. Hands down for me is the cardinal. The cardinal is special to my family. My father would feed the birds.. The cardinals practically ate out of his hand.. My mother would laugh saying boy you are St. Francis.. ( his middle name Francis.. Lol) When my father passed away, coming home from the funeral a cardinal was sitting right by the back door on the fence.. To my mother it was a sign from dad 😇 So my mother always had cardinals dishes at and ornaments at Christmas..😊 Well when mom passed away after coming home from making funeral arrangements my husband called me to the kitchen window and there was a flock of cardinals in our yard..what a sight. My cousin said that is a sign she is home.. I would like to think that. So we love the family of cardinals in our yard. We also get Quaker parrots too..the red and green at the feeders is so pretty .. and they all love it when it is snowing too. We just love to watch them.
Your tables apes are so inspiring. Geez everything you do is inspiring😀 Thank you for having such an inspiring blog.
It’s a toss-up between the cardinal and the downy woodpecker. Both of these were favorites of my mom. So, when I see either one I think of my mom and miss her more.
We don’t have a feeder, since there are plenty of plants for the birds to nosh on in the garden. The bird I would love to see at a feeder, if we did have one, would be a cardinal. However, since we also don’t have cardinals here, I’ll nominate the elusive flicker, which I’ve only seen around here a few times.
Love the tablescape. During these dreary days it is so nice to see the beautuful bird plates and bird houses. Thanks for sharing. Jean
Our bird feeder is outside the kitchen window and seeing the cardinals there always make me happy.
I am an email subscriber, I enjoy it all…will now go onto FB and find your page. not sure why I haven’t before??? thanks again!!!
oh and Home Goods is my favorite!!! thanks again!!!
I know sometimes they are a little testy with the other birds but I love to see blue jays at my feeder!
I love to see the cardinals at my feeders. They are such a beautiful pop of color in the snowy white landscape.
Happy Anniversary! I hope you have many more. Off to share….
So beautiful Mary! Our bird feeders are on the back deck and I love the gold finches
I follow you via email.
I live in a condo now and can’t have my bird feeder anymore, but I love watching the beautiful cardinals whenever I visit my friends homes.
I, too, am a subscriber to your blog via email.
Mary,
I have 3 feeders outside my kitchen window, 2 under the deck over-hang and one outside my sink window!
~ Thanx for the morning smiles ~
Jackie Carney
If I were a bird I would want to be a cardinal nesting at your potting shed! In lower Westchester County in NY cardinals are abundant in my backyard. Thank you for the giveaway and all your lovely posts.
The feeder outside my kitchen window is a constant source of entertainment all year long!!!
My most exciting sighting was a bluebird feasting on softened winter berries in our flower box.
I enjoy any really. They’re all so diverse and such a joy to watch. It’s calming and soothes the soul.
I love seeing the sweet little chickadees wearing their little black caps!
I love seeing a bluebird.
Thank you.
Love, love, love your blog!! The little purple finch are our favorite to watch at our feeder. So busy! So happy!
Oh my, Mary, ! You’ve done it again. The birds are so beautiful on the plates. I’m a quilter and love material with birds. Enjoy your day and weekend.
Love your blog and maybe I’ll win.
I shared your post on Facebook . I would like my gift card to be to Homegoods because I love it there!!
My favorite bird is the chickadee and I am a subscriber! Love the embroidered gloves used to hold the flatware. So clever!
Chickadee, Titmouse, your two dogs, and Homegoods and then I am a happy camper!!
So hard to choose my favorite winter bird, but will say the cardinals that look like ornaments in the maple tree.
Although we get quite a few different birds, I do love the Tufted titmice. They are so adorable.
I subscribe by email so I always get to see your pretty shed!
I also shared the giveaway on fb and I’d have to chose Home Goods. Thanks for the chances to win!
We keep the little fellow fed all winter..I live watching them..I also love those plates!! Thanks for sharing!!❤️
We had to give up on the feeder as we have a very agile cat who considered the birds dinner. When we had one, I liked the Blue jays.
Have enjoyed following your blog for years!
Julie W
I love your blog & am a subscriber. Your potting shed posts are my favorites!
I hope you have many, many more…🍾🎉❤️
I also follow on Facebook!!
I would love to see bluebirds or bluejays. Mostly around my feeders are cardinals which top out as the favorite.
Great post today. Thank you.
I love seeing the gold finches.
I love watching all of the birds at our feeders but I get the most excited when I see the cardinals and the chickadees.
Happy Anniversary ! I absolutely LOVE my finches because they have the cheeriest song of those coming to my feeders!
I am a regular subscriber and always enjoy seeing your potting shed! I get a lot of inspiration from yours.
I love seeing those beautiful bright red Cardinals.
I subscribe via email.
Pick just one favorite? I love them all but seeing the cardinals brightens my day! I love seeing those cheery flashes of red. I am already a subscriber to your blog. I love seeing your gorgeous pictures, they make my day!
Happy blogging anniversary! I love to see the cardinals on our bird feeder in the backyard. Thanks for this giveaway!
I’m a follower by email too!
I shared the giveaway on Facebook. I would love a gift card from Amazon! Thank you so much for offering such a wonderful giveaway.
I also am an email subscriber :) My all-time favorite is both the Male & Female Cardinal :)
I have also shared contest on FB :) Favorite to see the Cardinal! :)
My house is full of birds! Most of them are hiding in pictures, on pillows, or masquerading as candles. But my favorite outside birds are the blue birds of happiness! I love your bird book and the matching ornament.
I follow you by email! Chirp! Chirp!
Stay warm!
xo,
RJ
I follow you on Facebook as well so I can easily share your posts with my friends. Amazon gift card would be my choice, Cardinals are my bird.
I love the cardinals, what color the male gives against the white snow and the shy female colors of brown.
I so enjoy reading your blog.
I enjoy your posts by email that’s for sharing your creativity
Birds!! My very favorite thing in decor and in nature especially Gold Finches at my feeder!
OOPS!!! We love goldfinch in our yard and feed them all winter!
I’m a subscriber and fan on Facebook. Happy Anniversary!
Your potting shed is wonderful, and inspires me to do something nice with mine! Love your blog and Facebook page.
Favorite feeder bird – sweet little Carolina wren!
This made me smile :-)
Cardinals are my favorite bird. I have several prints by Anne Worsham Richardson (Bird’s Eye View studio in Charleston, SC – I have read that you visit Charleston a few times a year. I think you would enjoy her shop/studio -assume it is still open.) I follow and enjoy your posts on FB. Love Pottery Barn – Thanks.
I. Love the cardinals against the snow
My favorite bird at the feeder is the cardinal. They are so colorful and cheery, just a bright spot in the landscape.
Happy anniversary
Linda
It is hard to pick a favorite bird but I do love cardinals and woodpeckers and we have plenty of both. Thank you for the giveaway chance!
I am a follower via email subscription. Would love a gift card to Pottery Barn.

I love to watch the finches at play! so sweet and cheerful. Would love a home Goods for more dishes I don’t need. :)
Thanks you!
I love the friendly little chickadees. Then at dusk the vibrant cardinal and his mate. All the hungry birds are welcome all year long.
Sigh….I follow you here, and in Facebook but don’t live in the Continental US…. :(
(pssst….gift cards can be used through the Internet!!!! ;-) )
I love to see Northern Flickers at the bird feeder, although since we’ve moved about 15 miles west, I no longer see them.
I’m an email subscriber and I love Pottery Barn!
I’m also a Facebook follower (and I also love Home Goods!).
Shared on FB and yep, love Amazon, too. Seriously, I’ll take whatever’s left. ;-)
Love your post, read it daily. My favorite (s) are the chickadee and titmouse. Almost had the titmouse eating out of my hand one spring/summer.
I love the cardinals. I affectionately call them Mr. and Mrs. Lipstick because of their orange beaks.
I subscribe by email and follow on facebook. I love your photos and all the special little details you include in everything you do. Just priceless!
I shared on facebook.
I follow by email.

In winter I love to see Cardinals against the white snow. They just make me smile every time.
I follow you on Bloglovin. I do not do Facebook.
I just love the red color of seeing a cardinal, seeing one always makes me smile…
Thank you.
Oops forgot to mention that I would like a Home Goods gift card is selected. Thanks again. Barbara B.
~Mary~
Happy Anniversary !!! I would follow to the moon to see your wonderful blog !!:) for sure Mary !!!
I Love seeing “Bluebirds” the little bird of Happiness !!
Keep warm !!
Paula

I love to see them all, but favorites are chickadees and cardinals. Love the dishes!
Happy Anniversary! That was my mothers birthday. My favorite are finches but I truly love cardinals.
I so happily follow you…followed for years!…via email….
Lorakeets when visiting my daughter in Australia. Home Goods. Shared on FB.
Sharing the giveaway on Facebook….:) again…Happy Blogaversary Mary!
Happy Anniversary!!! My favorite bird at our bird feeder are beautiful cardinals in all their beautiful red glory!!!
I just shared this on Facebook Mary and my choice for the card would be Pottery Barn. Thanks for the opportunity to enter your contest.
I love your tablescapes! I already follow you on Facebook. I would love my card from Pottery Barn
I admit my favorite has to be those beautiful mourning doves with their haunting cries. Thank you for another delightful post.
Love to see the Downy Woodpeckers at my feeder. Thanks for all your beautiful pictures and posts. I’ve been a follower for some time.
I love the red birds but also the doves are my favorite.
Thank you for the giveaway opportunity. I love seeing blue bird and blue jays. Love their coloring. Also love your blog…look forward to reading it everytime I get a post.
Cheers and Carry On!
Carol
Indigo Buntings are my favorites! Saw my first one this summer after feeding birds for 11 years at this location. What a treat!
Pat
My favorite bird to see at the feeder is the beautiful red cardinal. They really stand out on a drab winter day.

Oh, forgot to say I like HomeGoods if I shall win.
Oh! I forgot to say!! Favorite bird would have to be the Quail!! Love them!
Hi Mary,
Happy anniversary and many more!!
I enjoy seeing the bluebirds. Their little birdies seem hand-painted, and of course their presence portends Happiness!!
Love watching all types of birds especially the Eagles soaring. I love your bird book. Is it still available and where did you purchase it. Thanks.
I already follow you on Facebook.
I shared on FB-Jan Kline Crowley. I would like the Pottery Barn gift card if I win. Thanks-love your blog.
I’m on your FB and receive your blog. Love Home Goods.
I so enjoy seeing the Finches in my garden. Vikki in VA
We have 3 feeders visible from our kitchen bay window. We have cardinals by the truck loads and they are beautiful, but we get giddy when we see a painted bunting on our feeders.
I’ve been a subscriber forever and now I’m a follower on Facebook so I can share the beauty of your blog with my friends! Vikki in VA
If I win I’ll be off to Home Goods for my goodies! Thanks for the contest Mary. Vikki in VA
I enjoy feeding all birds at my feeders but the beautiful bright cardinal brings a pop of color in dreary winter. I have loved your blog via email for two years and have read from your archives also. Thanks so much for sharing.
My favorite bird is the Robin b/c when I see them I know that spring is coming soon! Have a very Happy 6th Blog Anniversary!
I’m an email subscriber!
I live in Colorado and love to see the Blue Jays at my feeders! I am a real birdhouse freek too! I have them all over my house. Love your blog!
Happy anniversary! We have a pair that comes together a red cardinal and yellow finch. Always happy to see them. Warm Blessings!~♥Amy
I made an earlier comment but did not pick my favorite bird which is the cardinal. I have to admit that I am a big bird fan. I was so taken with your tablescape and love the mix of bird houses, cup bird feeder and bird plates I missed the favorite. Jean
Love your blog…so glad I found it. My favorite is when the cardinals are bathing in the bird bath and the hummingbirds are at the feeder.
Love this blog of yours, I look forward to it and read it so detailed every time you post. Our bird feeder is right out side our kitchen window, like so many others, we love all the birds but the male cardinal is my favorite, that red is just beautiful.
Mary,
I have been following your blog for almost two years now and look forward to all your wonderful recipes and ideas.

There’s a wild flock of monk parrots in Chicago that visit our feeder ….I love seeing them there.
I am one of your facebook followers as rose schmidt.
I shared on FB using your share button. (rose schmidt) Thanks!
Without a doubt my favorite birds to watch at my feeder are the bright and cheery cardinals. Here in my Alabama winter woods, their bright red color offers a cheery hello against the grays and browns of the trees. I have counted as many as eight or nine gathering for their daily treats and chatter!
My favorite bird is a Cardinal. They are beautiful.
Happy Blog Anniversary! I love to see Cardinals at my feeders.
I subscribe to your blog and I follow you on facebook.
I like seeing the Blue Jays, they’re so pretty. Thanks for the chance!

I would love to win the HomeGoods gift card. Thanks so much,
Karen
I never tire of seeing the bright red Cardinals at my feeder. They certainly brighten a winter day!
I love your potting shed decorating! I like finding beautiful affordable dishes at HomeGoods.
Gorgeous tablescape!
Love this post with the bird plates. I love to see a cardinal at my feeders. The red pops against the white landscape and looks so picturesque! I’d love a card from Home Goods since I enjoy their store so much.
I love to see cardinals of course – the bright red on a dreary day is beautiful. Very rarely I get to see a painted bunting and that makes my day.
Here on the southwest coast we are treated to yellow finishes, robins, and a flock of parrots that has just returned. Yes, parrots! I’m sure these originated from a pet parrot that escaped and has quoted successfully multiplied. Love the plates and the table Mary, Happy New Year🐦
Oops! Any of the gift cards would be a welcome surprise!
Thank you!
I’m a subscriber so here’s my 2nd entry! I also love the chickadees, Homegoods, and your recipes!!
i love to see the little red polls hopping about on the snow under the feeder
I am loving’ those plans dishes!! As much as I love all of your birds, my Nana’s superstitions come back to mind – she said “birds in a home are bad luck”, so I just can’t bring myself to bring any birds in, silly, huh?
that should have read “plaid dishes”!!
I do believe my favorite bird for the winter is Mr and Mrs Red Cardinal. Their brillant color stands out amoung the branches of the trees and the feeders. I love the fact that they are together for life…just like a good marriage!
As a girl growing up in Florida my New York grandmother always sent me cards with Cardinals on them. So I love seeing Cardinals at my bird feeders!
Happy Blog Anniversary!
Very cute post! Sandi
So clever!
So glad I found your blog! I love watching cardinals and bluebirds!
I follow your blog and Facebook page :)
Entry #. I shared on FB: https://www.facebook.com/januarybell/posts/10153853944633764
Congrats on your blog-a-versary! :)
Congrats!! Love your blog!! We have a lot of Chickadees in our area and they are the sweetest little birds.
Love those bird plates. Enjoy watching cardinals feed.
I follow you by email.
I love your tablescape and it really cheers me up to see cardinals at the bird feeder.
I love your blog! Those salad plates are the cutest! Thanks for the chance to win!
Your tablescapes are gorgeous! I love to see cardinals at our bird feeders.
I’m a new Facebook follower! Love to see the goldfinches visiting the feeders :)
We have snow here and lots of birds at the feeders. Love the colors of the cardinals and blue jays against the snow. Love your blog.
What a pretty post. So much eye-candy for a fellow bird-lover. :) I’m in Canada so just stopped by to say hello. Deb
Red Cardinals. It was my mom’s favorite. She passed on 18 years ago but when I see one I feel like she is there saying hello.
I love when the red bellied woodpecker comes to the feeder. He’s not there every day, so when he comes I love to watch him. Happy anniversary Mary!
I subscribe by email and also follow on Facebook
I shared on Facebook and Amazon would be my choice. Wish me luck!
My family is fascinated with birds and my favorite is the Eastern Bluebird that we put up a special house for! Congrats on your “blogaversary”!
I follow your blog on Bloglovin’ and would love to win an Amazon gift card.
… I’m also an email subscriber. Thanks for the chance to win!
Love your bird plates and the napkin rings are wonderful! Your table is done to perfection, as usual.
