Fun fact:

Studies have shown that flowers have the power to improve our mood.. . .not just receiving them, but growing them, arranging them or simply admiring them. The visual beauty of flowers triggers a release of ‘happy chemicals’ in the brain. . .dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin.

How to Make a Shell & Floral Centerpiece for a Seaside-Inspired Table

July’s theme for Monday Morning Blooms was ‘seaside’. If you can’t go to the beach, bring the beach to you, via the table! I used a favorite ‘vase within a vase’ method for flower arranging, adding shells to the walls of the vases to add some interest and to conceal the flower stems!

Christmas Table by the Tree with Tartan Plaid, Bunnies and Blooms

We celebrated the Christmas holiday season for our December edition of Monday Morning Blooms. I used a vintage compote with a Santa and bunny from Fitz and Floyd’s Woodland Santa Collection.

Cedar, free-for-the-clipping, adds a little fragrance and wispy texture to soften the arrangement. Alstroemeria and hydrangeas from the supermarket, were added for some traditional red and white blooms, along with pinecone and ribbon picks, to create a table centerpiece to enjoy by the tree.

Two products for long-lasting flowers are Floralife Flower Food and Crowning Glory Solution Floral Spray #diy #flowercenterpiece #sunflowers #hydrangeas #roses ©homeiswheretheboatis.net

Two products I swear by for long-lasting flowers are Floralife Flower Food,

available in individual packets, a 10 oz. containeror liquid for easy mixing.

and Crowning Glory Solution Floral Spray.

If you’re not familiar with Crowning Glory, it’s an antitranspirant spray that seals in moisture and dries clear. It’s safe to use on all flower types and is especially beneficial for flowers that are prone to wilting due to moisture loss, like hydrangeas. I’ve had flowers that lasted for two weeks that were sprayed with Crowning Glory!

A new favorite tool is my Pillow Floral Cage Arranger. It works like chicken wire, without the sharp edges, so it won’t scratch the interior of a ceramic or painted bowl and it’s made of plastic, so it doesn’t rust. My floral cage is 6 inches wide, but it’s also available in a 4 inch size.

I use waterproof floral tape to secure the floral cage to the container.

    Good Morning Mary,
I am having my tea and smiling at each gorgeous bloom from 2024! What a beautiful start to my day.
I can not pick a favorite. Each table is quite stunning.
Your incredible photography needs to be showcased in a book. I would buy it along with many others!
Thank you for such a refreshing start to my day.
    Happy Monday!

What perfect timing…I just came in from walking my sweet Cinnamon in the snow with sleet coming down here in Chesterfield county, VA! We have about 3-4 inches of snow and a coating of ice. Needless to say Cinnamon and I were quite wet as were our coats but it was fun. I was tempted to make some snow angels but I decided to wait for more snow!

Looking at flowers got me excited for spring as I am not a cold weather person and your arrangements were wonderful! My garden has garlic growing and I plan to use milk jugs to get started soon! So hurry up Springtime.

    Peace.

Mary, so exciting to see these beautiful blooms this morning! It’s a dreary day and your post shows just how much flowers can lift our spirits. Thanks for a lovely year of blooms and most especially your instructions to make them at home! Going to enjoy hours looking back through each post.
    Many thanks!

Such a beautiful year in review Mary! Your arrangements are always stunning and full of ideas and inspiration, and Iso appreciate all the tips you share. Flowers are indeed a mood changer, and I enjoyed seeing last years arrangements again in this month by month format. Each one I see I think, that’s my favorite and then when I see the next one, it’s a favorite :) I look forward to another wonderful year of Monday Morning Blooms!

Wow, this is exactly what I needed this morning to feel inspired and not so despondent. Ugh, I was just outside trying to rescue ruin from all my boxwoods from winter storm Blair’s wrath. We had 3-4″ of snow and then freezing rain. It’s a mess. The hope of beautiful flowers and tables soothes the soul, and you are the best. Thank you for this year in review!

    • January 6, 2025 at 10:16 am

Thank you Rita! I was thinking about you when I saw the governor declared a state of emergency for WV.❄️ I don’t envy you trying to rescue your boxwoods. We have a hedge of wax myrtles that I try to lighten the load on the limbs so they don’t snap like twigs if we get sleet/freezing rain or snow on the rare occurrence. I hope you don’t lose power, stay safe.❤️

The beautiful floral arrangements brought a smile and cheer to a dreary, rainy Monday. My husband and I try to keep fresh flowers in our home throughout the year. Even the smallest bouquet or arrangement adds a bright spot. Happy New Year!

Mary, this is a beautiful look back at all the gorgeous flowers you share. Thank you! I’d cold, but dry here. I have things covered and also brought containers inside. My camalia is in full bloom, but the freeze will take the gorgeous flowers. I cut a few to bring in. Stay warm, stay safe.

Happy New Year, Mary! I have enjoyed revisiting each of your beautiful floral creations. You have such a talent for creating gorgeous settings. I agree flowers can lift the mood. As soon as my Christmas decorations were put away, I headed to the store to buy bunches of flowers to create several arrangements to place throughout the house. It lifted my spirits, because I’m always a little sad when I put my Christmas decorations away. I always look forward to Pam, Lidy, and your stunning floral creations. I hope you have a wonderful week!

So beautiful Mary, each and every one of them, even more so at this time of year when we are cold and dreary. Like others, it was difficult to choose a favorite, although the shells really appealed. But I am just going to enjoy them all. You are so talented. Happy January to you!
