Good Things Come in Threes: Triple-Apple Granola

I’m back with another apple recipe for

apple week with The Novel Bakers.

Good things come in threes, so I decided to up the apple flavor from double to triple,

when I spied Double-Apple Granola in Cooking with Paula Deen Magazine.

I substituted applesauce for the oil called for in the recipe, as in my Pumpkin Granola,

so my version of Apple Granola is a medley of three apple ingredients

. . .  apple cider, dried apples and applesauce.

I made a few other changes, eliminating the sesame seeds,

adding more nuts and a little more brown sugar than the recipe called for,

1/2 cup instead of 1/3 cup.

Sounds yummy and pretty darn healthy too Mary! Apples are on sale this week, but I’m leaning towards a fattened up pie! But then you could probably guess that already:@)

No doubt in my mind: I am pinning and MAKING this granola. I finally found some brown sugar (blend) substitute that I likes, and I am going to try it with this. It is everything I love all together in one granola. I’m definitely putting dried apple bits in there too.

Good morning, Mary! Love granola, so I must try this recipe. I will also add dried cranberries to mine. Let you know how it turns out. Have a great fall day.🍂

I just froze some fresh pressed organic apple juice. I never thought about using it for granola, but this does sound wonderful. Love that apple cider jug. Have a great day!

Oh Mary, I wish I had a bowl full of that granola for my breakfast this morning. It would certainly start my day off with a triple punch of goodness. xo

Yum, I want some. I have been dehydrating apples like crazy and also making cider. I may need to whip up some granola next.

Yum, yum yum…I really like granola and never eat it because it is so high in calories. Love your recipe with applesauce instead of oil thereby cutting that calorie count. I will surely give this a try. Your apple cup and saucers are just beautiful.

I just made granola this week, but while my recipe contained apples, it is far removed from this one. The addition of reduced cider rather intrigues me. I may give this a try. Thanks!

Oh, you’ve hit a hot button Mary, this looks really delicious, I want to make it soon ~ such a darling Cider jug, too. Your photos are stunning (as always.)
If you have a moment, can you please tell us more about the dishes with the apple motive? If you’ve featured them before I must have missed it. Love those!

Hi Mari~ The apple dishes and mug are a Johnson Brothers pattern, Fruit Sampler, that I found at an antique mall and have an odd assortment of. I have a pear plate and a peach saucer that are part of that pattern. I used them in my chicken feeder in my potting shed, here. The cider jug is decorative and was a HomeGoodsHappy Find :)

I’ve never made my own granola, but just might have to start with this recipe. Yummy! Love the darling apple dishes and that cider jug is pretty cute!

My family will LOVE apple granola. It will be a healthy, delicious way to start the day (and keep MY doctor away from unhealthy buttered biscuits). I can just imagine the aromas in your kitchen! From the tea towels to the tea cups, every photo is a delight!

  18. October 19, 2013 at 7:42 am

Hi Mary, I could eat a bowl of this granola right now! Sesame seeds do seem like an unusual addition to the apples so I like your substitutions. I can’t believe you found that charming jug in HGs. I don’t think we get all the good stuff here, or else I don’t have the “eye!” I am going to keep my eye open for those dishes! Linda
