Growing a Potting Shed from the ground up with seeds of inspiration from Country Gardens magazine. A blend of new and salvage and materials, galvanized sheet metal counters and windows dressed with landscaping burlap. Lots of DIY inspiration and projects!
My Potting Shed is 10 x 16~ not nearly big enough :)
The exterior inspired by my early spring issue 2012 of CountryGardens Magazine.
A project that I was thrilled to have finally completed in 2012 after years of planning and procrastinating!

Love your blog! Love your look… so many fantastic ideas!
Can I move in?? Love the Country Gardens potting sheds and yours is fantastic!! I can see your retail talents on display… aren’t you just happy to don’t have to take inventory of all your wonderful collections?
I love your blog! It inspires me, and makes me happy!! Thank you so much!!
I LOVE this Mary!!! Really LOVE it!! In fact, I believe I could live quite comfortably in the potting shed!! Your talents are awesome! xo
Jeanne (Chloe and LadyBug too)
I have N E V E R seen such a perfect potting shed!! Well done!!
Hi Mary! You wouldn’t believe it but I was also inspired by the same exact potting shed that was on the cover of Country Gardens magazine from last spring. Both my brothers are home builders and they are finally going to build me a beautiful garden shed within the next few months. I collected an old door from Columbia Falls, Montana along with a variety of old windows and pillars from my hometown, Gig Harbor, Washington that will be included in the 10 X 12 design. I can’t wait! Thanks for the inspiration and beautiful photographs.
I am so envious of you! You are so lucky to have that potting shed to store extras and to work in. Fall is a great time to inspire projects🍂
Absolutely beautiful and creative, designs…they really make me smile. I am so inspired. Thank you for creating and sharing…I love your style
Wow, your potting shed really can’t be called a “shed”. It’s gorgeous. I just discovered your blog today via a link from pinterest. I need to read your old posts. I too am a lake person, I know I’ll enjoy your blog. I live in Raleigh, but our lake property is in SC. I think I need to check into Lake Norman for retirement!
Wow! I am very very jealous! Emma xx
Love the repurposed chandelier! 👯
I wish you had a pin button for pinterest!
There is a pin button, just hover on the left corner of the photo and it will pop up :)
I absolutely love your potting shed and everything about it! I especially love the door. Would you mind sharing the color with me? Love your blog. Thank you,
Thank you! All the paint info is here: http://homeiswheretheboatis.net/2012/09/03/a-place-to-pot/
I want to come live in the Potting Shed!
Just saw this, how gorgeous, fun, and absolutely charming!
So enjoyed looking @ your creative ideas during all the seasons & holidays. Wow! Just moved to the country & can’t wait for my husband & I to build” my potting shed”. I hope he won’t procrastinate!!!LOL.
Oh my,,,, you have the cutest shed in all of blog land. I love how you change up and stage it just picture perfect. What a great sense of style you have. Love your site.
A cup of tea and scrolling your blog – Ahhhh, so wonderful, so peaceful, so inspiring, so beautiful. Thank YOU.
I recently came across your site from Pinterest. We used the same design to make our garden shed to build a 10×10 shed for our backyard. I bought an old door and rectangle window at an antique shop in Blissfield, MI. My dad had lots of white barn board, windows, and tin roofing. We recreated another garden shed that is now our chicken coop, 8×8. I used old boards from an old firetruck for the deck/porch that my dad had saved and tore off old red barn board from my grandpa’s barn. Put a old door from my grandpa’s barn on the side as a wall and my husband designed unique windows for ventilation that open like shutters. He also designed a one of a kind front door for the coop.
Love your site and will be following your Pinterest board. Such cute ideas!!!!
love your shed and all the ideas
Hello Mary good morning from a wet and damp uk ( well it is summer) found you via Pinterest such an abundance of goodies to be found in the u.s too many I fear for my suitcase!!
Look forward to following you enjoy the heat Lyn
My husband is building a potting shed for me using materials from my grandparents’ farmhouse that was built in 1792. I love the “Potting Shed” sign you have on the front door. Where did you purchase it? I absolutely love ALL your ideas … you’ve definitely inspired me to “grow” and “bloom”!
How fun Sherri! The sign came from Gibson Mill from a dealercalled “Ful O’Bright Ideas”. The last time I was there they didn’t have it but they probably would again in the spring when it’s gardening season or maybe the Mill can you put in touch with him :)
eclectic and perfect!
I was just wondering- do you live on a boat full time or do you have a house? Would love to see your home interiors if you have one!
Hi Nancy, We don’t live on a boat, we live in a house on a lake. “Home” is where we dock our boat :)
I’d be happy to LIVE in that little shed! Just beautiful, cozy, romantic and sweet!
Love them all! Extremely inspirational!
In these housebound times, your potting shed is a visual treat. Thank you!
Hi, Love your shed as inspiration for my little shed my husband and I are building. I was wondering what color green paint is on your two little shelves on the front wall above and below the little window by the front door.
Absolutely wonderful!
hello! I really love your little potting shed. Would you be willing to share the plan so we can make one?
