Well your blog pics are sooo well done! Great giveaways!!! And so many chances!!! I’m actually not a Halloween person, but my sister in law REALLY is!!!! She wears a Witch tee shirt and loves Wizard of Oz!! This would be right up her alley so I’m entering and would give my winnings to her. My favorite candy would be mini 3 Musketeers. And I’m subscribed to your blog for a long time now.

My favorite treats to have for halloween, besides like traditional candy such as mr.goodbar or pumpkin or ghost shaped reeses pb cups is 2 things we make every year as a tradition. One is roasted pumpkin seeds with oild and salt. My grandma loved this so when she passed years ago we continued the tradition. The second is the one thing only my husband can make for us, its homemade chex mix. Not with a seasoning pack either. He gets the 3 diffrent cereals and together and mixes them up with other ingredients and cooks them. Its always a yummy treat we sit down to after trick or treating has ended and we watch Garfields halloween.

Snickers bars and caramels are the best at Hallowe’en. It’s fun to hand them out to the “little ones” who Trick or Treat. It’s always treats at my house. Happy Hallowe’en

  9. Cathy
    September 15, 2022 at 6:48 am

What fun! I like pretty much all sweets but an absolute old-time couple of favorites are homemade cinnamon sugar doughnuts (my mother taught school so we only got these when we had “snow-days”), caramel apples, caramel corn and popcorn balls. With today’s emphasis on safety, I don’t give these to trick-or-treaters anymore but do make them for church treats since our small congregation knows each other. I hand out individually wrapped chocolate candies – a favorite is Reese’s peanut butter cups.

As a long time subscriber and certified Halloween Nut Case, I always look forward to this post. But I simply can’t believe it’s already been a year since last year’s Meeting of the Black Hat Society. WOW! Not only do witches fly but time does too!!! As far as candy treats go, I think this year I fall into the Reese’s Peanut Butter cup fan club…love the pumpkin shaped ones! But I must say the biggest and best “treat” of all is this wonderful giveaway that you do each year, Mary, and I thank you very much for it. Happy Halloween!

Mary, thank you for the boo-tiful Halloween tablescape ideas and recipes! Now that my girls are older and don’t trick or treat anymore, we do a family Halloween party instead. The girls really enjoy decorating for the occasion and making cute and spooky treats. We will definitely be making the peanut butter spider cookies this year as Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are our all time favorite candy. I have followed you on Pinterest for quite some time and subscribe to your blog too. You have provided so much inspiration for our parties and get-togethers through the years. In preparation for this year’s Brew Ha-Ha, I have pinned lots of your recipes to my boards Halloween Spirit~Sweets & Treats~, and Halloween Spirit~ Witches Brew Tea Party~ (@Jane’s Victorian Home). Again, thank you for the inspiration — and kisses to your precious girls, Sophie and Lola.

Mary, your Black Hat Society is a generous group. Not one, but ten winners! Each gift is certainly fun. I had so much fun scrolling through these photos again and again. I love your enthusiasm. I wish I were hosting a party!
In the absence of Halloween parties here, I’ve passed along most of my Halloween dishes to my niece. She and her friends host a big Halloween party each year, so thought it would be appropriate to let a new chapter of the Black Hat Society use these fun dishes. I’m also forwarding the link to this post. She needs to save off all of these darling ideas and use them!
I’ll look forward to what clever ideas are in your bag of tricks for this Halloween.

The Black Hat Society… OH, this does warm my heart!! Having ones birthday the day before Halloween and your best friends actually on Halloween I developed a strong interest in early adulthood towards Witchcraft. Although my darkest is Very dark grey, the BLACK Hat lends that added spark to the occasion. Over the years I have always loved warm, mini Donuts tossed in a bag with cinnamon & sugar, homemade Carmel apples, my Pumpkin meltaway cookies (to die for), and as far as “candy”… I have to say Butterfinger, Snickers, Hershey’s miniatures, and Reese’s.

Oh Mary, this is just an amazing post! So much fun for the eyes to see and enjoy! My favorite Halloween candy when I was young was anything chocolate! I just found your blog a few weeks ago; glad I did! My favorite Halloween candy is still the same today as it was as a kid. I would get home, have all of my goodies approved and off I’d go to sort it by types. The chocolate pile always won hands down!!! 🥰

    Hi Mary,

Spooktakular giveaway and what a great way to kick off the season! I chose to pin three photos: 1) Your girls on the porch setting the mood for the season, 2) your centerpiece with candy corn-filled vase and peeps on “stems”, and 3) one of your giveaway offerings. I think I have already pinned all your other photos!

    • September 15, 2022 at 9:04 pm

My favorite treat would be the fresh apple pie we pick up from one of the farms up at Apple Hill, a popular farming community in our area that goes all out for fall. Last year I bought only half of a pie for my husband and I. This year I’m buying a whole pie, and perhaps a second one for the freezer.

Wait, maybe Apple Hill’s fresh apple cider doughnuts are my favorite. Not sure. I’d better do a taste test this year…just to be sure. Wink-wink!

Beautiful post and what amazing gifts! You always do everything so nice.
My favorite all time Halloween treat is Mrs. Brown’s Popcorn Balls. When I was a little girl Trick or Treating in the neighborhood she always made them every year from scratch. Wrapped in wax paper and tied with string. I can only imagine how many she made each year. They were the best! My cloth Halloween trick or treat bag smelled like them each year when we got it back out.
I’d give anything to have one now. But, a good Reese’s Peanut Butter cup will do in a pinch.

  153. September 15, 2022 at 9:44 pm

What a fun post! You are so creative and your photography is amazing!
I enjoy Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as Pumpkins. I pinned several of your Halloween pictures to my Favorites Blog Board on Pinterest. Such hauntingly adorable ideas! Thank you!

But I must say I am thinking of making the popcorn treat for a party. Just LOVE the pics and the creativity. Going to pin that recipe!
